Hi shinedown: As you read your bible, you will find that almost the entirety of the old testament to be about Jews. They are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They are the nation of Israel, and were given prominence due to Abraham's relationship with God. God made a covenant, or agreement, with Abraham that He would bless Him and that from Him a messiah would come. Jesus is that messiah. The old testament is an account of God's dealing with the children of Abraham, specifically the nation of Israel. When I specify the nation of Israel, I am referring to Jacob, who was Abraham's grandson, and Isaac's son. God changed his name from Jacob to Israel when he renewed the covenant that he made with Abraham, and confirmed it with Jacob, who then was called Israel. THese guys are like the George Washingtons and Ben Franklins and John Adams of this country. They are the forefathers of the nation of Israel. God also gave to them His word, and the law for them to keep so that we can have it today and study it to understand the new covenant that God made with us after Christ died for us. The new covenant is basically our new testament. The gentiles are everyone who is not a Jew. They were considered "infidels" by the Jews all the way through the old testament because they were not of the nation of Israel. When Christ died, He died for everyone, including gentiles. As you study the bible, you will learn to see the difference, as well as how gentiles were grafted into Christ. As for the 1000 year reign, life will go on, except there will be no sin or death. Christ will reign in righteousness (as opposed to the corruption our leaders reign in), and will rule over every nation on the earth. People will work, have chidren, and live the way that God intended from the beginning. Whether that includes riding your dirt bike or not, I do not know.

quote:
ORIGINAL: ShineDown What is a "gentile" A non-Jew. I am Christian and of European extraction so I am a Gentile. quote:
what is a "jew" It depends on who you ask. The Jewish people are a Semetic racial group with their roots in the Middle East; specifically Israel (which is the only country in history that was totally destroyed, and 2000 years later became a country again, ancient language and all. God said He would do that amazing feat, and it happened in 1948). Historically, Jews are the offspring of Abraham's son Isaac; the Arabs are the offspring of Abraham's son Ismael. A Jew could also be a person who is a member of the Jewish religion (and there's the Reformed Jews, Orthodox Jews (closest to the OT religion) and I forget what they're called but basically they're atheist Jews). A Gentile could convert to Judaism and be considered a Jew also. quote:
and also in revelations it says there will be a 1000 year reign on earth where god and his chosen people will live in peace and stuff . what will we be doing for 1000 years ? will i be able to like to all the fun stuff i like to do today like ride my dirtbike and stuff? and what happens after the 1000 years? Some people think it already happened (postmillennial) and some think it's coming (premillennial) and some people think it's not a historical event (amillennial). There's references to this in Scripture and it would be good for you to dig them out and try to figure out what it means. Some things in Scripture take a lot of understanding to put together and make sense, and this is one of them. If you read three chapters a day you can read your Bible in a year, and Jesus said we are to abide (dwell, live in) His Word. The more you read, the more you'll understand. It's a good thing to do the rest of your life; this is how the wise Christians you meet got that way. You can be wise, too - dig in and feast! quote:
thanks once again i know i might sound a little annoying with all these questions That's OK; we're all annoying. We're sinners, but God calls us to love one another anyway. Ask away!

To be Jewish means different things to different people, at different times, for different reasons, in different places. It can then either mean any of the following; 1/ a blood decendant of Abraham 2/ someone born in Israel 3/ Someone who follows all the laws and traditions of men. 4/ a religion 5/ a form of nationalism 6/ Having the faith of Abraham Scripture makes it plain and many of the Jews mentioned above will tell you that many who claim to be Jewish are not. I mean Jesus was Jewish and many say he was not. He was even proud to be called the King of the Jews. Early Christians saw their faith in Christ as only being true to their Jewish traditions and were not about starting a new religion. You could say if men are really Jewish they would rejoice in their Lord/King having come to them. The greatest Jew who ever lived, Christ and who is ignored by so many in Israel today is an amazing story.

ORIGINAL: ShineDown wait are jews the people that wear the white caps on their head? That may be Primative Baptists or something if it's women. Orthodox Jewish men wear yarmulkas (little tiny beanies). quote:
oh and what is an " evangelists" or something like that A person who goes to a group of people with preaching on how to get saved. quote:
and a " catholic" A member of the Roman Catholic church, with headquarters at the Vatican in Rome (it's actually a tiny nation) and subject to the Pope. quote:
theres all these different names ! i just want to be a normal christian kid who believes in god and stuff You'll find you have a bigger identity, ShineDown: a saved member of the family of God, standing in a line of saved people who go back to the death and resurrection of Christ and further (King David, a thousand years earlier, knew that somehow God was going to save him. How he figured that out I don't know, but he was right). You are a daughter of the King and Creator of the universe. You are loved, forgiven and will be taught by God to walk in His ways (the only ones that work, really). It's a life based on love and forgiveness and healing. I'm so glad you found it so young; some of us were older and messed up pretty bad first. But God brings healing there, too. Hey, if you want to jumpstart your understanding of how God brings healing and joy to His people, I recommend you read the book "Hind's Feet in High Places." It looks like a dumb kid's story... at first. It's really heavy, and it taught me stuff that took me 30 years to learn on my own (yes, I'm a slow learner. Wish I'd just read the book and got it then).

Do Jews wear white caps? Probably some do. Chasiddic and some Orthodox wear big black hats. Do a google search on who is a Jew. That should tell you a lot.

There are many several sects of Judaism. Evangelists are preachers (some travel to deliver the Word) Catholic has two meanings. One means: Universal and the second is a denomination

Yarmulke is the correct spelling. They are also called Kippas. They are headcoverings which are required to be warn by all observant Jews, at least in the synagogue. Some wear hats of various types. The style varies by nationality and community tradition.
