A question,

Is it normal that when i log in, all of the features including " Post a new thread" are disabled? even though they aren't crossed, but there's a green "V"

it's really no fun.

Thanks a lot.

Someone else mentioned a green V. I have no idea what that means.

Oh, wait! You're talking about at the bottom, the "permissions" showing you can post a new thread! Got it!

Go to the TOP of the thread list and click on "New Post." That will open a window to begin a new thread.

I thought of this after I started a new thread with a title that really did not give an idea of what the thread was about.

Could it be suggested to users to use relevant titles?
Instead of "I need support", title the thread "My dog died, I am sad"

I think it would help us know what a thead is about before clicking, going there, seeing it is not of interest, etc.

"The Oakland A's bashing thread" instead of "Another baseball thread"

I think that falls under the category of "wishful thinking".

I have to confess that I don't like for couples to come in under the same user names. It can be disconcerting seeing a guy's name posting in the women only thread (even though it's the wife who posted). I appreciate that we have to take every person who comes into forums word that they are a man or a woman on trust but I don't see why folk need to share user names ~ I know that sometimes they may worry about coming in under the wrong handle, but surely that problem would be resolved if they had to sign in each time they came to forums?

I am only aware of one couple that does that but they always make it clear who is posting. If a couple shares an email address then they can only have one handle.

I could be wrong but I think once they start posting in gender specific areas they need to have their own handle.

Anyone can get a free email account.

The fact it's made clear who is posting doesn't make it any less disconcerting....

I thought I'd seen a 'couple' post in the women's threads, but I couldn't say where so it is just a thought...

I'd like a feature that allows you to search within a specific thread. Right now you can only do that by forum instead.

you can search...in a thread, or a folder, or the whole forum. There is a search bar at the bottom of each page...just put in a key word and search. If it's an older post/topic, then sometimes you have to change the box at the top of the page to be more then just the last 30 days (it's a drop down box and goes up to 365 days...after that they get purged away)

I seriously didn't notice that! wow.

ETA:I knew about the entire forums search and folder but I was always frustrated I couldn't do a search within a certain thread

Sarah, I'm still not seeing how to search within a thread, just a folder. I'll PM you so we don't take this off topic.

never mind, I'm a doofus.

Regarding locking threads because they link with one-stop threads ~ it seems there are a lot of people who come to forums and one of their first posts will be locked because a 'one-stop' thread exists (or another thread that is sometimes quite long... I have no problem with them being locked, but it would be really nice if in the mod's post they could point out that it's not necessary to read the whole thread before posting anything...

I'm sure it's daunting for members who've been here a while to suddenly start posting in a 'one-stop' (and wondering if this point has been asked and answered before etc) so it must be even harder for a new member to deal with...

Again, this is not a criticism of threads being locked, just perhaps adding a sentence into the mod's post.

Would it be possible to color code restricted threads in the Latest Threads or use a symbol next to the name so we know it is from a restricted section?

This forum needs a One-Stop thread for trinitarian doctrine, badly. Maybe having one would have kept me from getting burnt-out simply defending the truth, and having to give up these forums for the sake of my emotional health.

There are no fewer than SIX threads in the God folder, active in the last 30 days, that are directly about trinitarian doctrine:
A Few questions regarding Jesus and God the Father
Let's get a discussion going on Oneness Pentecostalism.
Heresy about Trinity?
Is the trinity doctrine good enough?
The Trinity - Clone Explanation
God in three persons?

That's not counting threads that are likely to be dragged off course by having to explain what Christian doctrine is regarding the three persons of God, or threads in other folders, or threads that are in the archives. Much of the time I find myself making nearly identical posts in these threads. I bet at least three of these threads need a post asking those who deny the trinity "Who do you say that the Son of Man is?"

These threads are in need of moderation, most of them have multiple posts advocating heresy that have cropped up in my time away from the forums. Few have any sort of accurate doctrine being taught. (the thread "God in three persons?" is laboring under the false idea that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are manifestations of God, and I just don't have the energy to correct that very false assumption. I don't know how many times I've had to make that post in the past and I'm very weary of having to do that over and over.)

I think the Women's Only -personal issues area needs some overhaul. It is overtaken with pregnancy and parenting threads. I think the threads about parenting need to be moved to that folder since it already exists. Perhaps another sub-folder (sorry for not using the right terms) for pregnancy/childbirth/trying to get that way threads? That way, the threads about issues not dealing with those issues don't get buried so quickly.

Thanks!

Can you add a screen to forums where when you are replying if someone replies since you are ready to post that alerts you that someone new has posted before your post goes through? It would save cross-posting.
