I'm so sorry for your loss, Michelle, and I hope God will turn what was evil for good.

Anybody know if Gustav will hit anywhere near Mobile, Ala.? I have family in Mobile ... and just learned that my aunt Chris (wife of my mom's late brother) has died. They moved out of state before I was born and we were not particularly close ... but family members I know well and love are planning to travel for the funeral. Hoping they won't run into nasty weather on the way ...

Thank you, Di!

As for Gustav, it will be entering the Gulf of Mexico Saturday or Sunday, so that means it won't be affecting land until at least Tuesday or thereabouts. Once it gets into the gulf, it's anybody's guess as to where it will hit. So I would warn everyone from Florida to Texas to be watchful.

Gustav is heading to the WEST of New Orleans - anticipated landfall around Tuesday.

Rach - look out!

So sorry G-N-M. It's amazing how much those little ones become important parts of our lives.

Praying for you

Hi please pray for me/us. I'm a fairly new widow. My husband went to heaven in January after a long, courageous battle with cancer. I had an interesting experience with going to a Christian dating/personals site!!! Well what happened is this guy really schmoozed me with "love letters" and said he was a widower too with a young daughter like I am. He really said kind, encouraging words and blended them with faith and Christianity so I began to like him and trust him. Anyway he kept pushing me to "commit" after a very short time of knowing him. (He's in the U.K.) So finally I got "interested" in committing as he said our families should be together, etc, etc, etc. Anyway, long story short he asked for money. Not once but twice. The first time he said he had friends with an ailing baby and to send $350 American to a certain name in Hamshire, England. I said "no" I couldn't do that. Then asked him if we'd still be friends if I said no, he said yes. Anyway, he kept pushing that we get together as families but he didn't have enough for flight fare from England to here in western Canada where we live. So, at first I said, ya I'll pay half. Well when it came down to it. (He had a fabulous photo of himself by the way). I had read some where to ask the person to phone you to verify, etc. Anyway he phoned and he had a Jamaican accent, not a British one at all. My daughter picked up the phone and got quite upset about him as she was expecting a British accent too. Anyway, I quickly deleted that email account I was communicating with him and told him we don't feel good about anything! Funny he doesn't send the love letters anymore!!! Anyway. I'm just thankful I didn't send any money no matter how pressured I felt. And it was a pressure. About bringing a "family" together. So just beware fellow singles. The scammers are there.

(((Michelle))) sorry to read about Punkin. Pets are such a joy.

I have a prayer request. Pam's (MSNurse) father was taken to the hospital yesterday, after being sick since the weekend. It was originally thought to be a spider bite. But when they got to the hospital it was thought to be Lyme's Disease (tick bite). He has other health problems too. Anyway earlier today I got a text from Pam that the fever had broken. But she just called me and said that his BP had dropped.

There is still a question about the diagnosis. A blood culture was sent to the CDC and the report is due back on Thursday.

Pray for the whole family.

I've been kind of irritable lately and am not sure why. I'm living in college apartments and little things (like noise or lights being left on) are really ticking me off. It isn't a non-stop party or anything like that, but the bass coming through the walls is just loud enough for me to be annoyed with it (but not quite loud enough that it can be heard outside of my downstair's neighbor's apartment) and it happens every night until midnight on the dot. I'm going to speak with the property manager about it tomorrow. I'm also annoyed because I wanted to complete school this school year, but I'm going to have to take an additional class in fall 2009 (long story). I also started a part-time job that I thought would give me enough hours to live off of, but instead, I've been getting a paltry 4 hours a week. (Yes, I said 4.) I'm not getting a chance to do what I was hired to do for various reasons. I also just heard from someone that I know - who doesn't work there - about how employees have been dismissed without warning (I've seen this happen.) Financially I'll be ok for a while - God has just blessed me tremendously and definitely will not starve or be homeless or anything even if I didn't find another job for a while - but I still need a job and I'm still dragging my feet about starting my own writing business (although I did make a little progress yesterday). I'm also still having a hard time finding a church, although I'm getting closer and there are a couple that are quite nice. I did commit to a house ministry only to find that there was a lot going on behind the scenes - lots of confusion, some outright sin, and heaps of gossip (I stay clear of those things so I didn't know all of these things were happening until they'd reached a crisis point), which was dissappointing. So the ministry has gone on hiatus for a while. I feel for the leaders and the baby christians. But it made me second guess my own judgement and ability to hear from the Lord.

I'm at a place where I have a vision and I'm moving forward in some respects (I got great news today - I will be able to do some video work, which was unexpected), but at the same time, I'm at a stand-still and am not sure about how to proceed in other areas (does that make sense)?

Anyway, I know that what I've written about is so small compared to what most others are going through, but if you feel led, I'd appreciate it if you'd keep me lifted up in prayer. Mostly, I'm just trying to hear from God on these issues and that the Lord help me to have a nice sweet attitude when I interact with my neighbors. I've never been one to yell or be rude and I'm generally sweet, but I've been feeling so irritable lately and I don't want to take it out on anyone else. I don't want to harbor these little petty upsets in my heart - and I feel like I'm doing that. Anyway - thanks a lot!

Praying rg.

I need to ask for physical strength to finish this project I've been working on for what seems like 2 years! Something was dumped on us on Wed, and I'm nearly finished with it - but I'm just exhausted - utterly exhausted. And, I don't feel well - like I'm fighting a bug or something. I've forgotten to take my supplements for a while - and that usually keeps me well - guess I need to get back to doing that, huh?

Anyway, I need prayer to finish this project by deadline, and to keep my sanity (and health) while doing so.

Very true Carleejoan - thanks for sharing your experience. I'll be praying for you.

Also, praying for the other requests (utility, g-n-m, and mutinywxgirl). And of course for the people in the path of Gustav.

Well, God is fast! My job has upped my hours for next week - so I'll be working 30 hours (which is more than enough for me). I don't know if that will be permanent, but I'm going to have a chance to interact more with people - and I'm praying that this will be a chance to minister too. I'm soo excited :) I was beginning to think that I made a mistake with taking this job - but I just praise the Lord that he has provided.

Thanks for all of your prayers - rgod

I was able to get one semester credit in French. I missed getting two semesters' credit by 3 points.

Please pray that I will be able to accept this from God. I worked so hard...and really didn't save that much money or time.

GP1 has a job. For that we are truly grateful.

Thanks for your prayers.

Shallberebuilt - I'm so sorry to hear that you couldn't get all three credits. Can you retake the test? I'll be praying for you - I know this was a blow. Praise the Lord that GP1 has a job! Keeping you lifted up this evening.

Another prayer request has been answered. My neighbors are shockingly quiet. The noise miraculously stopped at 11. I say miraculously because this is a college building with lots of undergrads so I thought I was in for a miserable night (and maybe a visit over there if it got too loud). Praise God!

We need to be in prayer for New Orleans & the surrounding areas. It appears they're under a voluntary evacuation. While NO may not take a direct hit, they may still experience storm surge. Many people have already died as a result of this storm and I don't want to see any more.

I'm feeling really sick - and I HAVE to meet the deadline of midnight tomorrow night. Please pray for my health/stamina to get this finished.

Agreed about the Gulf Coast - all of them need prayer - as the storm is "wobbling" a bit - so the track may move in either direction and even 50 miles is huge!

I'll second the prayers for the coast. My (stubborn) grandparents live on the Texas coast. My dad went and got a bunch of extra gas today in case they end up needing bailed out. They had some bad experiences running from Rita (post Katrina) and don't want to leave this time.

Also - I have had a migraine since Thursday and it is wearing me down. It would be really nice if it went away.

Got another prayer answered. I am going to do some video work but had no camera. I met with a professor today - kind of impromptu - she agreed to serve on my thesis committee :) and also has two cameras which I can borrow. She also has microphones. So, all I need are lights and I'm in business. My neighbors are also still quiet :)

I'm still praying for everyone ...

Just asking for prayer for comfort. I just don't understand why it has to continue to be so hard, sometimes. There's nothing serious going on...it's just one of those days.
