ORIGINAL: AboveAll Aw Randy, I think we have a future worship leader in the making? Well, he's really NOT a singer, but getting to be an excellent musician. He's planning on attending a music school and studying arranging and composing. He's more a writer than a performer. Sorry to hear about your bad morning. Glad that everything is fine now. You work in a Christian office? Praying together? Wow, that's great.

(Slips off the flip flops, coverup, sets down bag.) Hey Trishy and Trish! I thought I would come to the beach this evening for a swim. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii! Come in and join me! Lori

Hey Trishy. Yeah, I've had a bit of time offline. Some completely unexpectedly. Oh well. I've often wondered this of families who have religions other than Christianity in it. When you visit with your parents, are you expected to do things related to Buddhism? Do they defer to you, if they come to your home and, for example, say grace before a meal? Just curious.

Thanks for the quick bio Trishy! I will read your blog. I'm just now getting comfortable with the forums and have my own thread. Are you accepted by your family? I mean many Christians have "Christian" family who still do not have relationships or acceptance. We really do have to rely on our spritual bros and sises. I gotta go to Toys R Us to get a toy I promised for my DD as a reward. Have a blessed weekend! Lori

When you visit with your parents, are you expected to do things related to Buddhism? Do they defer to you, if they come to your home and, for example, say grace before a meal? Just curious. Hi Trish! Well, I live in a studio right behind my parents so I see them all the time. They are not "practicing buddists" per se. My dad has his shrine in their house, which a lot of Japanese do. The shrine is really a family shrine. They put flowers and food on the shrine, etc... They don't go to a buddist church. It's more of a cultural thing. When I grew up and when we went to the buddist church to visit the ashes of family members, I remember hitting on the bell-like thing and putting the insence on. But I never knew what it was. I was a kid and just did it. They never expect me to do any of that stuff now. They know that I won't so they don't expect me to. When we have had family get-togethers with others, we would pray. They don't object at all. My Aunt is Christian and some of my distant relatives are too. They have however come to my church when I invited them for Christmas, etc... English is my dad's second language so he really doesn't understand anything at all during service. My mom was born in Hawaii so she understands. This past Easter, my mom had to work but I didn't invite my dad to come to Easter service. I told God and myself that the next time I invite my dad to church, I would take him to a Japanese speaking service. We don't have one but I would take him to another church to visit so that he can understand at least. Interesting huh Trish.

Thanks for the explanation, Trishy. I often wonder how family members work their way around things like that. I'm glad they don't make you do it.

No worries...many people totally go by their CW name. It is amazing that God plucked you out of a Buddist home and now you have opportunity to witness to family! Hard yes, but a glorious opp to get your family to Heaven. I'll pray for you. Lori P.S. I'm returning this ukelelee we used at the Humble in Spirit thread (Mike). I did not ask to borrow it as you were not at home. I just swiped it off your front porch. So please forgive my for my craziness, we were getting pretty giddy over there.
