Whine? Vent? Both? neither church involved...

As part of the only"universal health care"system the US offers I can tell you that we get only a smidgen more than what we pay for. Need to see a podiatrist? You get no choice in the matter and yeah- you drive an hour to the east. Need a neurologist? Mmmm again no choice... Drive 1.5 hours to the west. Urologist? see if you can get both at the same time--- he is at the same place as the neurologist...

My wife once had an ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy) while I was under that same unversal care system. The tube burst during the night, which resulted in her awakening to brief but excrucriating pain. We called the emergency room to find out what to do, since neither of us had ever heard of a tubal pregnancy and since the pain subsided. We were told she should take a couple of aspirin and come in as a walk-in at the OB/GYN.

Once a doctor saw her, she was rushed directly to surgery. The aspirin, of course, made matters worse by increasing her internal blood loss. So we not only lost a baby, we almost lost a mom and my wife.

And as such universal health care systems shield the incompetent, nothing was ever done to the person that gave the bad advise and dangerous instructions.

Church is going fine. I joined the choir last night!

As for the universal health care system previously mentioned and the OB/GYN stuff Jimbo sited... That clinic was the absolute WORSE for the herding like cows. Very rarely the same doc twice in 9 months... sometimes not even a doc but a Physicians Assistant. Only ONCE did I have the doctor that was "assigned to me" deliver a baby. He was awesome. I could count on one hand how many times he actually did my OB appts.

It's gone -- very gone. So I came home, walked in, and told my husband. He felt so bad for me. I was on the verge of tears, and I'm not a crier, so he knew . . . .

The incident made me crabby. Very crabby. He had called me at work before it happened and asked me if I wanted him to stop by the store for anything, and I almost said yes, for potatoes, but I hated to ask, so i didn't. But standing there in the kitchen, all complainy, I grumbled, "I wish I had asked you to get potatoes. I almost did but didn't." He just looked at me with sad eyes.

Then I remembered that some time back, I had bought a huge box of frozen shredded potatoes, so I went down into the basement to the freezer. Yes, there they were. Then I noticed a bit of ice build-up, so I took a handy stick and beat the ice until it cracked and fell off. Picking up one of the bags of potatoes, I noticed it had frozen solid, so I banged it on the flat freezer top to break the shreds into proper pieces, and came back up stairs.

There he stood, his big sad eyes even wider, staring at me. Then it hit me! From his point of view, I had gone down into the basement and had made a lot of banging sound! I started laughing and asked him what he thought I was doing. He was hesitant to say, but he finally said that he thought I had gone down there to take my anger out on something! I told him what i had been doing down there, then we had a good laugh. Too bad I hadn't thought of that when I was beating up the thick frost on the freezer and the bag of shredded potatoes!

Abiyah, that story is hilarious! I'm so sorry about your ring...I think I'd be sad if mine got flushed, though I don't wear it and my husband has gone Home this ten years now.

But isn't it wonderful that God provided a way for you both to laugh??

woops.

This is the whiner's thread.

Whine Whine, Whine...I only have 3 months to get my daughter's wedding planned. And I'm going to school full time and working two part-time jobs.

(But it's really fun!)

Laughter is my main release, all right! But I didn't think there would ever be anything to make me laugh tonight. You are right, though. He did provide us a way to laugh.

Well, it's hard, but you know, worse things can happen. I have to just let it go. The good thing about this is kind of a long story, that I will shorten here. When we two got married, I was very sick and didn't really realize it. After I had emergency surgery, I had been steadily gaining weight. The reason I lost the ring is because I have been steadily losing weight -- very slowly -- on purpose. So the ring was loose. But i didn't realize it was that loose.

This is my third ring, too. The first was lost for the same reason, the second one was stolen from my daughter's hospital room, and now, the third one is gone. I told my husband tonight that I am going to go without one, until I can figure out how to lose weight and keep this from happening again -- if that is possible.

It would obviously need severe modification. But some people do need financial help in these circumstances. The very idea that I would have to pay Urgent Care $90 for a day of sick leave is ridiculous.

I once flushed my watch down the toilet at home--but we recovered it!

The little latch on the band was loose, when I reached to flush it fell off and into the toilet, and was sucked down. I cried and cried--it was the first really nice, expensive (for us)watch I'd ever owned.

My husband decided to see if had gone all the way down, he reached his hand & felt as far back as he could with his fingertips and felt the very end of the band--somehow he managed to pull it back enough to really catch hold of it and pull it out.

I think I ended up taking it for a cleaning, but it worked for several more years.

Abiyah, are you sure you just don't want a new ring every once in a while?

Buy a new wedding ring every once in awhile? Now there's an idea! Funny thing, I was thinking the same thing on the drive home tonight -- only in disgust with myself.

My husband lost his first ring at work shortly after we were married. I cried over that, too, because I thought that meant he had some kind of sub-conscious aversion to being married. (we are still together almost 25 years later!)

His second one is cracked through on the underside and pinches his finger, so he doesn't wear it. One of these days I'll take it have it fixed, but I am not as weird about things like that as I used to be!

That is not a good thing. Did not say the current system worked for everyone. but the one being proposed I am living and it is so not the golden apple to end all medical woes. There has to be a happy medium somewhere in this fruit salad.

Whine? Vent? Both? neither church involved...

As part of the only"universal health care"system the US offers I can tell you that we get only a smidgen more than what we pay for. Need to see a podiatrist? Urologist? see if you can get both at the same time--- he is at the same place as the neurologist.

Prescriptions. Free... if you want to take a number and sit for 2 hours(no exaggeration there at all folks!) and WAIT cause if you leave and miss your number being called you are taken off the list. Yeah, you can get it written out and carry it somewhere else and get generic for 3.00 and name brand for 9.00 but they have always given me a hard time about writing it out- too easy to just punch it into the system at the clinic.

Primary care docs? I have had 5 different ones assigned to me in the last 3 years. Did I mention the clinic itself is 1 hour south? Yeah. So primary care says I am at a Milestone age. Time for this and that and the other and if I want my thyroid further tested... Uh huh so I go out and tell them that I am an hours drive away can we just get the 4 appts a couple at a time? Nope the clinics, all in the same building and under the same authority, are not able to coordinate with one another on appointments available. So I have not had ANY of my "milestone" visits. Has anyone checked up to see why? Nope not a single one.

You have read this far and are wondering what the hay is for horses I am talking about- the only "universal health care" system the US offers. My husband is Active duty military. This is as close to socialized medicine as the US gets and believe me it is 100% better than nothing, but FAR from what my other relatives get.

Careful what you wish for. I would not wish this on *every* American. I am glad to have it but it really is a pain sometimes. I am a number not a person. No one in the clinic cares if I am there or not. No one follows up. I pay 50% of my dental out of pocket- I am dental phobic(really) and my dentist CALLS ME after a procedure to make sure I am okay. I pay 50% of my eye care and my eye doctor recently stayed open 30 minutes past closing to pluck a speck of something out of my husbands eye so he would not have to go sit in the ER and he called to follow up. I'll pay 50% for the CARE I get. It has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the quality of care you want. Sometimes we have to pay for that.

Sorry, it is a pet peeve of mine. Navy Brat Army Wife(30 years total military dependent)... Been there done that. Trust me you don't want the t shirt unless you got absolutely no shirt to cover your nakedness.

HOO-RAH!!!
