I love it when the preacher is doing his thang and someone coughs a little. Next thing you know 40 people are hacking and then someone has to one up someone else and get a hanky and honk their nose off and then start harking and by this time I'm gaggin and laughing at the same time.

ORIGINAL: salos I recently visited a church in Texas. When they announced that the associate pastor was going to preach, there was a ripple of positive comments that went around the sanctuary. It was nice. I'm sorry! This is sweet and all but this thread is only for whining. You're looking for the Christian "It's all GOOD" thread which doesn't exist yet because I'm waiting for one more real good whine up in here. Walker! Little do you know... I'm a world class whiner! I've been cooling my heels, trying to be polite. I'm with all the "too much AC crowd". Other petty whines... the children won't stop poking each other, the choir is too quiet, we aren't allowed to wear cologne... I better stop before I get carried away. I have one really serious whine, and that is about pastors who stop reading the bible, are having affairs, are bullies, and/or are into pornography. In other words, when someone's a jerk, they need to step down from the pulpit.

ORIGINAL: tyrubonchi It sucks so much when you try to hold in laughter! Now I have a new whine. I don't feel I can use the "s" word, and it is sooooo expressive!

when you hear more about the "strategy" or "casting vision" at church than you actually here solid teaching from the Word of God. It seems that the Word is something they use just to support the "vision" or "strategy" that they think is what the church needs. Ok...this is a good whine!

ORIGINAL: Walker311 Ha! I've been going to a church to help temporarily with music and I'll have to say that it really hurts me (my ears) to hear tone deaf folks who are allowed to sing specials. I had a tear rolling down my face recently and it was not because I was moved with awe or compassion but with pain. It's 2 or 3 minutes of absolute agony! I know that they were making a joyful noise unto the Lord but couldn't they do this in shower instead? I go to a big church where you have to addition in order to sing in the choir and on the praise teams. The church is very big. I love music and love to praise God, but I would not be doing anyone a favor by being in the choir or on the praise team. Mercifully, so did I. You didn't have to audition to join the choir, but you did if you wanted to sing any solos. I tried out for a solo in the Christmas pageant one year but didn't get it. Back then I was miffed, but now I think it was a blessing for the congregation. I can't really complain about AC, since I'm from Texas and we need that blasted thing most of the year. I will whine about the parking, however. My church began as a small one, so it grew too big for its britches too fast in terms of parking. They did build some extra lots but one of them was across the street. Even with that one, though, if you didn't come early you were out of luck. Here's something else I'll whine about. It's when too few people have to do everything at a church. I've actually seen this at several churches. Once it grows bigger, most people are content to just warm the pews and the same core people end up running all the programs.
