Psalm 121:1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills -- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. I really enjoyed our Saturday! I got up early so I could shower and get Jim to the school before 8:30. I did wait around for a little while to see if they’d heard the firm location of the game, but the call didn’t come until after I left. I came back home, curled my hair, grabbed a jacket and Jim called to say the game was at our city sports complex across from Bay Springs middle school. I ran to the post office and mailed off some VHS tapes, PS games and computer games that were too ‘babyfied’ for Nick. I sent them to our granddaughters in Connecticut. The game was a double-header so I was at the park from about 10:30 until 3:30. My ears were sunburned and one hand. Oh, my nose is a little pink. My makeup has sunscreen in it, so it worked for the most part. We cooked out once we got home and had some really good garlic chicken breasts, veggies and the rest of the peach cobbler. I didn’t exercise at all on Saturday. I was pretty stiff from increasing some weight lifting and calisthenics on Thursday and Friday. I did my Miracle Mile before we ate lunch today (Sunday) and again this evening. I also used my weights and did calisthenics. So, Jim and I were both asleep by about 9:00 on Saturday night. I got up with the dog once in the night. Poor Scooter is used to being walked between 10:00 and 11:00, and I’d not walked him since around 7:30. He’s such a good dog. Teeny tiny whine at the gate is all he’ll do. I woke at 6:50, which is the usual time I get up during the week. Jim woke with body aches, chills and a cough. I assume it’s a mild case of the flu. Georgia is epidemic now and the youngest daycare child came last week with fever, horrible cough and green discharge from her nose. She rode in the car with us back and forth to the surgeon, coughing her head off. At least it seems Jim won’t be very ill at all. He didn’t go to church, but did get up and shower and sat around listening to music, eating well and seemed to be okay. He doesn’t feel good, but I know his body pretty well after 38 years, and this isn’t going to be a bad illness. At Sunday School, I made the pancakes for the youth and cleaned up afterward. Someone had cleaned the teen’s concession area very well during the week. I’m going to guess it was the wife of our interim youth pastor. She’s a lovely woman who jumps in and does anything that she sees that might need doing. The shelves had been cleaned and rearranged, plates, forks, and napkins were restocked and the countertops were spic and span. The concession is a very busy place on Wednesday nights, with upwards of 140 kids ordering food, candy and drinks. She volunteers in there on Wednesday night. I made a quick stop at Dollar General before heading home. I’d run out of hairspray and Jim had asked me to pick up something he needed. The store is about ¼ mile from the church or less. Cops were everywhere, trying to catch people coming and going from church. Shame, Shame! We cooked steak on the grill and had some stuffing (whole grain), gravy for my men and English peas. I was very good. I ate 3 ounces of the steak, a serving of stuffing and peas. I had some Jelly Beans as a snack late in the day. I was sleepy, so I put in an old black and white movie and took a nap. Three hours later…. Whew! I slept really hard. I know I dreamed, or I think I dreamed, but I don’t remember what I dreamed. When I woke, I lay there for about 20 minutes, looking out my windows into the backyard. I could hear Scooter, sniffing under the bedroom door, waiting for his mommy. The sun is so bright and trees are starting to bloom. It got up to 70° today and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer! We opened many of our windows and even sat outside on the deck for a while before we ate. Heb 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Galatians 3:5 "So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?" Ecclesiastes 4:10 "Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up." Jim keeps teasing me and saying he’s going to pitch batting practice ‘tomorrow’. His arm is still sore, but hasn’t hurt anymore. The stitches ‘itch’. For so much being removed, his skin has pulled together nicely. You’ll never know how much was removed to look at it! God has been so very good to us. We’re praying and asking God to protect Jim and keep him well. I talked to our son and his wife today. They were sitting on their patio, enjoying their backyard. Jon had cut the grass, cleaned the gutters, and other chores yesterday. They have a five-month-old puppy. If next weekend is nice, maybe we will have a cookout with them. Ack! Next weekend is ‘spring forward’. That’s a hard one, isn’t it? In case you were not around for previous clock changes, I’ll tell you how WE do it. Next Saturday, when we first get up, I’ll turn every clock and watch ahead one hour. We live all day Saturday as if it’s already the new time. If you do that, Sunday morning won’t be such a shock. The Monday following a spring forward is the most dangerous day of the year on the highway. Be prepared, be alert and be rested! Pupils have off the 10th of March. Jim will have to work part of the day. He’ll still have to go in, just not as early as usual. I don’t know if they’ll have baseball practice. I would assume it depends on the weather between now and then. I don’t know yet if I’ll have both daycare girls tomorrow. Since it’s going to be so very pretty, I’d love to take a few minutes to work in the flowerbed up against my house. I need to get up a few weeds and trim some Boxwoods. I HATE Boxwoods and would love to pull them up and replace them with something else. Unfortunately, anything that grows taller would block my brick and a window. It’s a tricky situation. I need to find something that grows less than 2 foot tall but that would do well as stand alone plantings. I’ll have to think this through. I have large plantings on each end. One is already 10 feet tall and the other is a Nandina and about 5 ft tall. Maybe a flowering plant or three or four different plants. Must think this through… Well, have a lovely Monday. God Bless. I don’t like Mondays, generally, but did manage to make this a nice one. I only had one daycare child and it was to be very nice out, so I kept the car. I plan to paint the legs of my table so I went to Wal-Mart and got some flat green spray paint. The top of the table is a natural wood. I’m not quite sure how to take the table apart but I’ll figure it out in the next few days. It’s VERY windy today, so not a good day to paint. I had three loads of laundry to do and other chores, so I kept busy. Of course, I got three phone calls before lunch, which slowed me down a bit. The meter reader was walking thorough the neighborhood, which upset all the dogs. Scooter wanted to join in, so I had to put him out back for a while. Bark, Bark, Bark! Every neighbor has at least one dog. Most have 2 or more. Most of the dogs are outside all day. Only Scooter and Urchin (next door) are in most of the time. Anyhow, I had windows open so once one set started barking, Scooter had to join in and protect the neighborhood. He loves people, but barks at anyone who walks past. Jim went to work, but doesn’t feel well. He’s still stuffed up. I do believe he’ll snap out of this right away. He has none of the signs he generally has when he’s getting really ill. We have very nasty weather moving in for Tuesday. We’re expecting tornado weather. I hope no one is injured in this round of storms! I’m glad we had a few really pretty days! It won’t be long now and the cold nights will be long gone. I don’t like summer, but I love spring and autumn. I watched a movie last night that reminded me of my brother who was murdered almost two years ago. It’s about a young man who becomes a ‘tramp’ and travels the world for two years. He’s running from the horror of his childhood. It was very touching and the ending was very upsetting but I gleaned a lot from the movie. Just because someone doesn’t live the type life you would choose for them doesn’t mean it’s not right for them. The movie is called “Into the Wild”. It does contain a couple scenes of nudity, in a non-sexual way, when the ‘tramp’ meets people from another country and when he rides past a group of nudists. It was based on a true story. It’s out on DVD, pay-per-view and to rent. Praise! The surgeon’s office just called and said the margins were clear on Jim’s latest surgery for basal cell carcinoma. He’s to watch the spot for infection, but otherwise, return for the stitches to be removed and the surgery on his back on March 12th. That’s great news. I’d kept the car, with the intention of going early to pick up Jim and watching the kids practice. The mom just called to say she’s working late, so I may be late picking up Jim. I have no way to call and let him know. I would guess he’ll call from the coaches office if he thinks about it before they lock up for the night. I’m a little disappointed. I’d wanted to sit outside. Picked up Jim right as the coaches were coming out of the door. We ran by the grocery store and picked up milk, bread and a few needed items. Tonight was spaghetti and garlic bread. I made the mistake of buying the bread already buttered. It was so very greasy! We’re going to watch ‘There Will Be Blood’. Hope you have a nice evening. God Bless. Storms rolled through early this morning. There was a lovely thunder on and off. Between that, and the rain, it was very melodic. We’ve been under a tornado watch all day. What an odd day, tho! Rain and storms! Sunshine! Winds and rain. Sunshine. Tornado watch and now, possibly Snow flurries tonight. We had a bit of everything in one day, except an ice storm. Oh, about the movie ‘There Will Be Blood’, the only ‘blood’ was bleeding from the ears from the horrific musical score. The storyline was weak and boring. Some situations were so ‘unreal’ as to be dumb. Example: The son is near an explosion and his eardrums were burst. He never speaks again because of being deaf. Never even utters a word. He makes noises right after the explosion, but not a word. Dumb! The acting was even worse. The movie lasted 2 hours and 38 minutes. We tried to endure, since we’d already wasted so much time, but gave up before the end and turned the channel. Don’t waste your time. I was especially hungry today. I had oatmeal and coffee before 7:00 and a big green salad at 11:00. Well, just after noon, my stomach felt so empty so I had another bowl of oatmeal. Before I began my diet, I would have already had several sodas by lunchtime. Now I have less all day than I’d have before early afternoon. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it.” Psalm 24:1 Our son, Jon and his wife are planning on a trip up north this summer. If they have room, he’ll take the things our daughter and her girls left behind. They’ll need all their summer clothes! She is moving into a new place this weekend. I’ll probably baby-sit the puppy while Jon and Mary are gone. I guess they could take him along, tho. After supper, we went and walked around the mall. It’s quite windy, still. Jim’s baseball game had been cancelled so he was home right after school. We cooked some steaks on the grill and had some potatoes and lima beans. I’d gotten a $15.00 off at Yankee Candle, so you know which store I headed for! I love their floral scents. I want to do another mile before settling down for the night. Are you just having the nicest day? I hope so! It’s pretty here, but a bit chilly. I’m hoping the weatherman is wrong and that it warms up and stays warm for the weekend so I can go to Jim’s baseball game on Saturday and enjoy myself! I won’t go if it’s 40° and really windy. The makeup game for the rained out baseball game is Thursday at 4:30 in Temple. I’d love to go. Maybe I can keep the car and go once the girls leave. The youngest daycare child’s family is moving to Temple. They’ve found a lovely home there. The girls will go to the same school and Mommy won’t have to run all over to take them to school and bring the toddler here each day. They’re VERY good children from a wonderful Christian family. I’m sure they’ll do well in the school. I did a more intensive Walk to Lose Weight walk this morning and afternoon at 1.25 miles each. The third DVD is a bit different. I had a hard time jumping the DVD to the cool-down. I had to shut down the DVD and reload it. It’s a longer workout, which is what I was looking for, and it gives you the option of continuing for a total of 4 miles. It’s going to be a while before I can do a four mile aerobic workout! Even the women on the DVD were sweating! A LOT! I didn’t watch the last two segments, but jumped to the cool-down. I’m trying! I’ll do another segment sometime tonight, before we watch t.v. MOVE, MOVE, MOVE to lose weight! Remember, I’m going from a stand still, sit still daycare, home schooling mom to a very active woman of 57! So, for breakfast I had oatmeal with apple and coffee. For lunch, I had a big green salad with several lettuces, purple cabbage, shredded carrots, a boiled egg, mushrooms and ½ a cucumber. I ran out of tomato and radishes. Jim had gotten me some Fat Free dressing and I noticed it has a lot more calories than the low fat did. I’ll pick up some more when we go to the store. The hardest thing for me is not drinking Pepsi all day long. Once it gets warm out and stays warm, I’m going to push myself to drink Sweet Tea. I’ll have to slowly lower the sugar, tho. I already make it less sweet than I prefer. I’ve not lost any more weight but think I’m firming up quite a bit. Still pushing for more weight loss before our weigh in on March 18th. That’s just under two weeks. I’ve got a big pot of black-eyed peas on cooking for supper. Jim won’t be home until after 6:00. It’s such a nice day that baseball practice will run late. ** Jim got home at 5:45 and ran Nick up to church. I made liver and onions to go with the peas. I dropped a piece back into the pan and splashed my forearm with the hot grease. Boy oh boy! It hurts. I ran cold water over it and put some Desitin on it. I called around and found the local Childcare facilities have greatly increased their charges in the last 1 ½ years (last time I checked) so I notified the mother of the child I’ve had for over 1 ½ years that I’ll be raising my rates for her family. I’d never increased her rate. They have a baby due late this summer. Mom said she is going to look for childcare elsewhere, at a lower rate. Previously I would have taken the second child at half price, but I just couldn’t rationalize keeping a newborn for $45.00 - $50.00 a week. That’s less than 90 cents an hour for an awful lot of work. I’ll start watching for another 6 month old or older. Dishes are going and no chores left to do. I did another 1 ½ miles a few minutes ago and am ready to relax for the night. God is good and God will protect and provide for His children. Rest in that assurance. I had a pleasant day and I hope you’ve had a nice day, too. The trees are all covered with buds and Forsythia bushes are bright yellow. Spring is only days away. I woke, well rested, just before 7:00. Jim was getting out his clothes and I convinced him to lie back down and snuggle with me for a while. While he showered, I made coffee and oatmeal. Once the girls were here, eating breakfast and watching Magic School Bus, I did 30 minutes of aerobics for 2 ¼ miles. I was sweating by the cool-down! I have my information all mixed up. Jim’s make-up game today is out of town, as is the Saturday game. I certainly can’t go today and probably won’t go Saturday, unless it really warms up. Tonight through Saturday are to be wet, cool and windy. In that order. Sunday is to be a bit warmer (50°’s) than Saturday and sunny. A big factory in Carrollton is having an electronics recycling day this Saturday. Now if we can load the old microwave into my VUE, I’ll take it over and get some big burly guy to take it out of the car. Problem is, Jim cannot lift. The car is never home when Jon is off work. He’d gladly load it for me, if he could. Romans 10:14 "How, then, can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent?" Our church doesn’t have visitation anymore. I think we’re failing God when we refuse to ‘Go Ye….’ My daycare mom has decided they want me to keep the newborn and they’ll put the older child in a school year 3-K program so she can learn to play with children her own age. I’ll keep her during any holidays and summers. That’ll work out well. Oh, my ‘grease burn’ from frying liver last night is nothing more than a teeny pink spot. God is good! Does anyone know where I can find the translation for ‘Lascia Ch’io Piango’? I love this song. Wish I could sing. It’s in Italian. I ‘Bablefish-ed’ it but it didn’t make sense. I made myself sit and do them all while watching t.v. last night. Sometimes it seems they all come at once. I’ve done three today, already. I’ll feel overwhelmed and then get a big check in the mail. Nick wanted leftover liver for supper so I warmed that for him and made tuna salad for me. I used very little low fat mayonnaise and ate it as a salad instead of on bread or with crackers because I’d made an Apple Cobbler for dessert and wanted to have one piece of it. It was VERY good! I’ll leave the rest for my boys. I made a huge cobbler because they love them so much that they disappear quickly. I feel as if I’m getting a cold, but I’ve felt like that twice recently and was right as rain the next morning. God is good! Jim should be home soon and I need to do another bit of aerobics to burn off that cobbler. Hope you have a nice evening with the ones you love. Genesis 26:18-19 And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. Galatians 3:6 In the same way, "Abraham believed God, so God declared him righteous because of his faith." Wow! Friday! Finally! I’m going to guess we’ll have a quiet Saturday. Bad weather moved in last night and there’s a chance of snow tomorrow. The ground has standing water and strong winds are in our forecast. I’ll guess the baseball game is cancelled. The winter weather will only last one day and then spring comes right back in. That’s good because the trees are all blooming and we don’t want to damage those blooms! I got my 2 ½ miles of aerobic walking done in 30 minutes early this morning but blew it all by eating a green salad topped with 1/2 cup of tuna salad and a banana before noon. I’ll be hungry in the late afternoon! To ‘pay’ for that, I did a Miracle Mile about an hour after eating. I burn next to zero calories taking care of toddlers in our smaller home. I need to burn 3,500 calories more each week than I eat just to lose one pound. OUCH! I burn about 175 calories during a 30 minute aerobic workout. The less you weigh, the fewer calories you burn. Older people burn fewer calories than younger people. I also used my Hula Hoop today. I can do about 6 minutes before getting worn out. That’s a lot of work when you’ve not done it in 14 or 15 years. At least I can keep it up for a while! You burn about 100 calories for each 10 minutes on the hoop. I’m trying! In fact, I’m trying SO hard that I’m surprised I’m not losing weight more quickly. My next weight loss milestone is 3 pounds from now. Saturday morning my family will Spring Forward and live the day on the new time. That makes the adjustment on Sunday much easier. I have so many clocks! I hate having to find them all and use ladders to reach some. Twice a year. Oh well. We dust the ones too high to reach all the time so I guess there is some good in the time change. *************************************************** I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2 And here it is, Saturday already. Actually, it’s Saturday afternoon. As I guessed, there was no baseball today. We woke to snow flurries and very cold weather. We’d had tornado sirens going off much of the night. I slept well anyhow. Jim and I got up and had breakfast and I did my exercises while he showered and loaded the broken microwave, a tape player and a turntable into the car for the recycling day at Southwire in Carrollton. They unloaded the car for us. I found this information on their website. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours, as well as saving enough energy to manufacture nineteen more cans. Every glass bottle recycled saves enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours. Five recycled two-liter PET plastic bottles yield enough fibers for an extra-large T-shirt or one square foot of carpet. Every ton of paper that gets recycled saves enough energy to heat the average home for six months . Over 50 different products, ranging from auto parts to fibers and carpets, are made from recycled plastic bottles. Southwire is across the street from the shopping center where Hobby Lobby is located. I’d never been in. Boy were we surprised! We both loved the store and enjoyed looking at all the pretty things. My mother shops there often, as does our son and his wife, but we just thought it was Hobby stuff! Wrong! It was quite nice to be in a store that had lovely Christian music playing over the speakers, too. I’d set many of our clocks ahead late Friday, so we did as I told you and lived the whole day on the new time. That meant no nap for me. I didn’t want to nap and throw off an earlier bedtime tonight. I sure dread Sunday morning! I’ve got a little cold. I’m a bit achy and can feel it in my head. I haven’t had a cold in a few years. Generally, I’ll have a slight sensation of a cold coming on but it’s gone by morning. I was exposed to the flu about two weeks ago, but I stayed well. 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Monday already? Did you have a nice weekend? I went to Sunday School and came home. I had a short lived cold with body aches and sore throat. All that’s left today is a slightly stuffy nose. Jim didn’t have school today but they had a motivational speaker at 10:00 – 11:45 at our church and a faculty meeting at 1:30. Since we live 2 minutes from our church, Jim didn’t have to leave until after 9:30. He went that early because the meeting was for every person working in the school system for our county and parking was expected to be tight. There was plenty of room. Anyhow, Nick went to school with Jim at 1:00. They’re going to work on the baseball field for tomorrow’s ‘first home game’. The head coach had jury duty today so he couldn’t be there. Nick was more than happy to go and help his dad. The equipment they needed to line the field was in coaches truck, so they were home quite early. I started my day by making a phone call about some medical bills that had been ‘refused payment’ because of the high cost. The doctor’s office said they ‘d call and explain the diagnosis and need for all the surgeries/ large charges. I’d been a bit upset about this since we got letters in the mail from the VA on Saturday. In fact, I woke at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday concerned about the bills. I hope the doctor’s office can fix it because we have no way to pay the first four months of visits and surgeries. Jim’s next surgery is this Wednesday at 4:00. I’ll go with him again. The spot is about 1 inch away from his spine. After I got that done, I began some housework. I cleaned the shower in our bathroom, two toilets, mopped the kitchen / dining area and Nick’s bathroom. I made our bed, did two loads of wash and unloaded the dishwasher. While the boys were gone, I cleaned the carpet in our television room. I vacuumed the rest of the house, swept the front porch and steps and a lot of other odd jobs. High 60°’s – low 70°’s all week! Spring is here! Spring is here! It doesn’t appear the freeze and snow this past Saturday damaged any buds on our trees. That’s good news. Of course, all the rain, snow and sleet helped our drought. I only had the older daycare child today. She was quite tired from a busy weekend. She spent a lot of time playing with Matchbox cars and reading books. I didn’t exercise at all on Sunday. I took a two hour nap after lunch. I exercised ½ mile early this morning and it wore me out. I did another 2 miles late afternoon. I think this cold has me a little under the weather because I just don’t have the energy to do 5 miles a day right now. Hopefully I can be back to myself by tomorrow. I made an easy supper of new potatoes, black-eyed peas and kielbasa. I didn’t eat the kielbasa. I’m switching over to sweet tea instead of so much soda. We bought Coke, because it was on sale, and the extra carbonation really bothered me. Maybe it’s because I’m eating lots of fiber or smaller amounts of food, but the bubbles make me feel like I swallowed a bike pump and pumped myself up. Jim has a baseball game tomorrow. The head coach has jury duty. There’s also a game on Friday afternoon. Both are ‘home’ games. They have a couple of make-up games to schedule because of snow and rain. I hope I can go to SOME of the games. Tomorrow is 5 years since my stepfather died. He was the best grandfather a kid could ever have. I know my kids all miss him. Diane Tavegia

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. It’s quite cloudy today. We have a slight chance of some rain later. I hope it holds off so Jim’s team can have their baseball game. They already have two games to make-up. My day had a slow start. One of the daycare families overslept so arrived almost an hour late. I wait to exercise and shower until the girls are both here and are eating breakfast and watching a video. I didn’t start my 2 ½ mile exercise DVD until almost 9:00 so it was close to 10:00 by time I was showered, dressed and had my bed made. I made it through the full 2 ½ miles, tho I did tire a bit. My cold is all gone. It lasted less than 24 hours, other than a bit of stuffiness. I’ll work on another 2 ½ miles tonight before we settle down to watch t.v. I put my tennis shoes in the wash, so hope they’re dry by then! Jim’s surgery on his back is at 4:00 on Wednesday. I think he’s a bit overwhelmed because this one is so close to his spinal column. I’m not sure how doctor will be able to take large amounts of tissue to try and stop any tendrils spreading to bone, organs or lymph nodes, but doctor didn’t seem worried. I’ll go with Jim and be in during the surgery. What’s really bad is that Jim hasn’t been able to throw a baseball or catch batting practice until today and I’m guessing he will not be able to throw for the next two weeks, again. What matters is keeping him well. He sees his lung specialist from Emory on March 31st. His COPD has gotten MUCH worse. His family smoked around the kids. He and his two sisters all have lung problems. I talked to our daughter for a while again today. She’s moving into her new apartment, slowly but surely. Her boss gave her new beds for the girl’s room and for her bedroom. The new place is a bit smaller, but big enough for her and the girls. I wish we were closer so we could help her move and her Daddy or brother could fix her car. Erin is 32 and works six nights a week from 10 or 11 p.m. until 6 or 7 a.m. I talked to our son who lives in the next town. He’s got a back injury and was going to the doctor today. It’s bad enough that a quick turn can cause him so much pain that his legs give way. He’s only 31. He was recently moved from second, to third shift so he works 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. His wife works 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the same company. They aren’t able to choose which shift they’ll work. It’s assigned. My diet: I was getting a bit bored with salads, so I changed the ingredients a little. I had my usual oatmeal for breakfast and then my salad at lunch was lettuces, purple cabbage, tomato, green peppers, black olives and mushrooms. Instead of soda, I’m drinking sweet tea with less sugar than I’d usually use. (I’m sure I’ll sneak in soda at least ONCE a day.) My weight loss has stalled again, but I’m losing inches, so I must be gaining muscle. My wedding rings spin round and round. My upper arms are still very flabby. YUK! Our weigh in is a week from today. Uh Oh! I’d wanted to have lost a bit more weight by then. It has really shocked me how hard it is to lose weight after menopause. If I could go back in time, I’d never allow myself to gain the weight. I’m not patient when it comes to weight loss. 19 lbs to go. My youngest daycare child left a few hours early today. Her father carpools and the driver’s four year old daughter had been taken to the hospital with an eraser wedged well into her ear! One dad leaves, both dads leave. Kids. Hailee and I played with Play-doh for a long time, making Spongebob, monsters, bugs, snakes, snowmen and she made batteries for my creations. LOL! If the next two days are as nice as expected, I’m going to edge my flower bed and expand it a foot or so in each direction. I’ll certainly enjoy being outside and any exercise is good for me! Deuteronomy 31:8 "The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." 2 Chronicles 27:6 "King JotHam became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the Lord his God." Today was Jim’s surgery on his back to remove any of the Blue Nevus that might have spread and prevent it from spreading into his organs, bones and lymph system. We arrived early, were taken back at 4:00 and were leaving the office at 5:20. Doctor took a deep spot, about the size of a nickel, plus surrounding skin. We’ll hear in a few days if he got it all. Doctor said the basal cell carcinoma on Jim’s scapula has already returned. Another doctor did that surgery. It’ll have to be redone. MORE surgery. They also removed the stitches from the cancer surgery on his forearm. That’s going to heal nicely. He goes back in 2 weeks for a full body check, stitches to be removed and ?? This is going to be a lifestyle for the rest of Jim’s life. Every three months maximum. We’re waking, quite confused, each morning. Certainly we’re having a bit of trouble adjusting to the time change! We’re going to bed much earlier than before, too. It’s just SO dark out at 7:00! The girls were both on time today. They ate and watched Peter Pan while I exercised (2 ½ miles) and showered. I’d made our bed before they got here and I had already eaten. After my shower, we all exercised along with ‘The Donut Man’. He’s quite a hit in my house. I’m not sure how long he’s been around, but this video is 12 or more years old. I had more Donut Man videos but gave them to our granddaughters when Nick outgrew them. This one was overlooked and comes in handy. The Donut Man says, ‘Life without Jesus is like a donut. There’s hole in the middle of your heart’. The mommy of the youngest daycare child didn’t work today so she came and picked up baby before we left for surgery. The grandmother of the other child met us in the parking lot of the doctor’s office and took her. That was a blessing. Last surgery, I had a squirmy 18 month old to hold. I couldn’t let her wander around the surgical suite. Jim and the team played a 4-inning game last night. It was windy and quite chilly. I’m glad I didn’t go! They’ve scheduled a double-header for Friday afternoon but we have rain moving in then. We’ll see. I’m trying to ‘mix it up’ with my salads each day. I’m getting bored. Today I had lettuces, broccoli, radishes and alfalfa sprouts with fat free Italian dressing. Boring! I’d had my oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, with my vitamins. Tonight we had (roasted) boneless chicken breasts over whole grain stuffing, gravy and asparagus. Yesterday I had only one Coke. I’m replacing the soda with sweet tea. The sweet tea has a lot less sugar than I prefer, but it’s still good. I’m not sure I’m saving a whole lot of calories, but there’s a lot of bad stuff in soda that isn’t in tea. I’ve had less than one Coke today. I drank most of it and poured out the last ounce or so, replacing it with tea. Hope I can hold out the rest of the night! I’m being so very, very good with my diet and aerobic exercise. I’m eating healthy, limiting calories and not having any snacks. I tend to get a bit discouraged when the weight loss stalls. I’m not sure what else I could do to lose more regularly. Nick went to church and we left him a bit late to play outside with his friends. The boys shoot baskets, play touch football and soccer. It’s almost 70°, still, and quite lovely out. I’m going to do another 2 ½ miles of aerobic walking before anything good comes on t.v. I hope you have a wonderful evening and rest well. God Bless. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech; night after night, they display knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4 Oh what a gorgeous day! We had blue skies and 77°. I really enjoyed it. While the girls slept, I went out and pruned four HUGE Butterfly Bushes. My Weigelia is starting to bud. I removed branches from the Butterfly Bushes that fell across the Weigelia last summer. I still need to transplant something out of that raised garden, tho. I believe the Weigelia won’t thrive if it’s covered each year. Plus, it’s a pretty bush but can’t be seen once the Butterfly Bushes are full and blooming. Bad timing on my part. I didn’t transplant it last fall because of the drought and water ban. I need to do some research and find the best time to transplant it and put it on my calendar. Nick cleaned off our deck for me and we both sat in the sun for a while. Scooter was hot, so I rinsed him off and brought him in. He’s solid black and it was hot in the sun. The deck gets sun until 3:00. I was so involved with outside things that I forgot all about lunch. By time I realized it, I felt it was too close to supper for me to eat something. I had a glass of tea instead. For supper, we had steak, corn on the cob and field peas. We have rain in the forecast starting tomorrow through at least next Wednesday. It won’t be cold, but it will be wet and windy. I know we need the rain, but I’m anxious for spring and warm, sunny days. Talked to our daughter several times today. Talked to my mother. Our son called last night about 8:30. Been a chatty type day. We’re watching a DVD of Celtic Women. It’s the first one they made. It’s not quite as good as the new one, but still lovely. Nothing is impossible for me" Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" Luke 1:37 "For nothing is impossible with God" Luke 18:27 Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God" God knows where we’re headed and what lies ahead. That’s enough for me. It’s an icky day here in Villa Rica. We’ve had drizzle and rain most of the day. Our high and low temperatures have remained pretty much within four degrees today. I like cool nights but prefer it a bit warmer during the day, especially if it’s wet. I’m so glad it’s Friday. I’m ready for a ‘rest’. Toddlers can sure drain you! All that chatter, running, climbing, getting into things. Whew! Jim’s surgical site looks good. I think it will heal quickly, as long as he can keep from moving that area too much. He can’t shoot baskets, catch batting practice or pitch. The next two spots (to be redone) are his left scapula where basal cell carcinoma returned and left lower back where a Black Nevus was previously ‘scraped’. I’d think surgery in those spots wouldn’t interfere with anything. We just praise God everything, so far, has been caught ‘in time’ and pray it remains that way. Speaking of Jim, the team was supposed to play a double-header today. There’s still rain to the west of us, but I think it’ll clear before they would begin play. I hope so because they’re already two games behind. I did hear thunder about an hour ago but the rain has stopped for now. I put a big roast in my slow cooker early today. Boy does it smell good! We’ll have roast, potatoes and gravy (no gravy for me) and a veggie or salad. I’m still drinking tea instead of Coke. I did my 2 ½ mile aerobic walk/ workout as soon as both girls were here and eating breakfast. One daycare child has been coming very early and staying later and the other is coming an hour later and leaving earlier than she generally has. This has thrown my schedule and adjusting to the time change for a loop. Guess I’ll have to make a new mental schedule! I made my bed, emptied the dishwasher and started some wash in-between their arrivals today. Psalm 146:2 "I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live." I’ve expected a call from the surgical nurse with the report on Jim’s latest surgery. They generally call the second day. Of course, his surgery lasted until 5:20 on Wednesday so the tissue may not have gone out until Thursday morning. No call. The new school term starts for Jim on April 1st. He has a literature course and one test in Social Sciences to take and then he’ll only have ‘teacher’ courses and ‘how to teach math’. Since his degree will be in math, the college won’t accept his University Math and Calculus classes from Ottawa University. I guess it’s a good idea, since he was in college 40 years ago. My day was spent making Play-doh animals and singing songs. I’m teaching the 18 month old her colors, ABC’s and how to count. Right now it’s 1,2,5,6. The almost 3 year old counts really well, knows her colors, shapes, sizes, odd things like ‘curly, dotted, zigzag, over, under, above, etc. We’re also learning the days of the week and names of the planets. You can teach children anything, if you put it to music. I was quite worn out by 6:30 when the last parent arrived. This was a long 11 ½ hour day of daycare. I’m so tired I could go right to bed, but I need to walk the dog around 10:00 so think I’ll watch some t.v. first. Have a lovely evening and God Bless, Diane Tavegia

'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you." Our area is still under a tornado watch, after last night’s devastation. I don’t know if there was much damage in our town, but there sure was a lot just 30 miles east in Atlanta. We didn’t get the earlier storm that caused so much damage, but we did have a huge storm at 5:30 this morning. It woke us all. Two people are dead in a town near us. The hail sounded huge, but was actually ‘pea’ sized but was being pelted into the widows and deck so hard that it sounded larger. Its stormed on and off much of the day. In like a lion, Out like a lamb. I woke at 5:30, with the storm, walked the dog around 6:00 when it had died down and then went back to sleep, on and off, until 10:00. I’m not one to ever sleep late, so I was quite surprised. Our phone rang, minutes later, with my mother calling to check on us. I’d not turned on the t.v. and had no idea how bad it was. I called and checked on our son and daughter in law in the next town. They had no damage but he called me back tonight to see if we’d heard the tornado sirens. We had not. I’m not sure why, tho. We used to be able to hear them with the doors and windows shut. I opened the door and could hear them a few blocks away. I had a late breakfast of oatmeal and coffee and then showered. I got in my 2 ½ mile aerobic walk a bit late, but I got it done. Doing without soda has caused my weight loss to start again. Of course, I’m still eating very healthy with no snacking. I was very hungry for fish so Jim got me some fish from Captain D’s. He and Nick wanted Burger King. Jim has said he’ll take me to Olive Garden when I get to 139 lbs. I can check out a restaurant site and choose foods that are lower in fat and calories. I’m thinking about it. I love their salad and bread sticks, but the bread sticks are high in fat and calories. I wouldn’t want to go if I couldn’t eat something I’d normally choose. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll wait until 129 lbs and then do it. Sunday is supposed to be very pretty. I’ve thawed out some meat for the grill, so I hope it’s nice out! I’m getting a little sun at a time, to try and prevent sun poisoning. If I spend too much time in the sun beginning of the season, I get a very itchy rash! Getting old is for the birds. Jim and I watched ‘Cast Away’ today. We hadn’t watched it in a long time. I’d forgotten a lot of it. I really dislike our new church schedule. Sunday School starts at 9:00, so we have to be there between 8:20 – 8:30 to begin cooking breakfast for the youth. Church starts at 10:15 and ends by 11:15. Our service has changed and seems foreign, dull. We don’t feel as if we’ve been to church. The music changes constantly as if to please everyone. I really dislike it when it’s guitars, electric piano and drums. I’ve actually paused, expecting a booming ‘Play Ball’ after some opening music. Oh, Well. We’ve been there a lot of years. Nick loves the youth group and his Sunday School class. My Directv bill jumped $6.00 this month! Looks like they raised all the rates. Too bad they didn’t warn me. I had planned to upgrade to HD, but changed my mind now. Boy did I have strange dreams last night! I dreamed I made coffee and forgot to use a filter. I dreamed someone from church asked me for a ride home, drove me to South Carolina and then left in my ‘station wagon’. I only had a few quarters, no purse, and didn’t know where I was. Strange dreams! It’s been a boring day. More storms are moving in tonight. It’s already clouding up and very windy. I hope no one else loses their life or their homes. Ecclesiastes 3:1-10 There is an appointed time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. Psalms 16:2-3 "I said to the LORD, 'You are my Master! All the good things I have are from you.' The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!" What a gorgeous day we’ve had! Our upcoming week promises to be even nicer. There’s an Easter Egg Hunt at church on Saturday. I hope the weather holds out for that. Another large church in town is having a ‘fair’ and egg hunt, too. We were up and off to church on time to cook for the youth, but attendance was really low. I only had 2 girls in my 7th grade Sunday School class. That’s two weeks in a row. The older class, 8th grade girls, had 5. It was a good class, tho. We have about 30 on both class roles. I’m going to make some phone calls this week and find out what’s going on with these families. I’m hoping it’s just a problem adjusting to the time changes. It didn’t seem like Palm Sunday. Our sermon was from Nehemiah again. I think this was the 4th week. Maybe 5th. We sang a lot of hymns and the Youth Choir did a great job on their special. I love hymns. We cooked out on the grill for Sunday dinner. Jim made steaks. I ate less than my 3 ounces. The cat begs on one side and the dog lays on the floor on the other side, looking so pitiful. I made an Apple Cobbler for dessert. I had a very tiny sliver with some low fat whipped topping. I had oatmeal for breakfast and oatmeal for supper. I’m still keeping a food diary and counting my calories. It gets easier each day. I do want some junk food once in a while. Jim bought me some chocolate pieces to eat, one a day. I took a long afternoon nap while some wash was going. I got all my laundry washed, folded and put away. I also changed the sheets on our bed. I’m supposed to have one daycare child all day tomorrow. The older girl is going see some family with her grandmother but not until after 10:00. Grandma will pick her up here. The younger child’s dad is working overtime, so she’ll come. He works Tuesday thru Friday. I’m going to try and keep the car tomorrow and take Nick for a haircut. He goes to the old barbershop downtown. We love the barber. He’s cut Nick’s hair since we first moved here, nine years ago. Nick still gets his hair cut the same way. ‘Little boy Sunday go-to-meeting’. Keeping the car depends on the moms getting here before Jim has to leave. Tuesday night is our weigh-in and measurements. I could still lose the final pound and make my goal. We’ll see. I’ve not had any soda in days. I haven’t decided on our menu for Easter Sunday. We might have turkey. Ham is so salty. It would go to waste. It would go to waist.
