Homegrown, If someone said something mean about my family and then told me they were looking for another church I would have said something like "Oh, good!" Guess ya can tell that I'm not a pastor's wife right?

Cindy, how's the duck?

Dear Sue's Hubby,

High blood sugars are nothing to mess around with. Actually a post meal sugar of 170's doesn't bother me that much, but when your fasting sugar is that high, it's time to sit up and take notice. You already know that high blood sugars cause kidney, heart, and neurological damage. I doubt that quoting those facts one more time is going to convince you, so here's my parting shot - do you love your wife? If you do, it is absolutely unfair to her if you don't do everything you can to take care of yourself. She does not deserve to watch you lose your sight, kidneys, or neurological function (and have to take care of you while it happens) just because you are too stubborn and lazy to do what you need to do to prevent it. Obviously some things will be out of your control, and Sue will love you and take care of you no matter what, but the phrase "in sickness and in health" should not have to cover sheer stupidity.

Yours in Christ,
Cindy RN

It's official-little one is sick. Today she has a slight fever, something I suspected when we did school. I kept school very short today since I don't want her to get frustrated on top of not feeling well. I took her temp again recently and it was slightly higher than it was this morning.

I have been with her most of the day and she has been sitting most of the time, although she is complaining of dizziness-due I'm sure to the lack of eating and drinking these past couple of days.

I know it's not too bad since she did ask for soda this morning. I said no and gave her orange juice. A small glass that she is still nursing now.

I really did want to get out today or tomorrow and now it seems that I won't be going anywhere.

I just asked her if she wanted a smoothie and she said she did. I have pomegranates, cranberries, lemon, lime and orange I can put into it along with honey and I have some strawberries I froze that I will give her too.

Cindy--well put!!!

My parents were here this afternoon. We had a decent visit, but I'm glad it's over. It's not a bad thing that we're here and they're there.

The dish washer broke yesterday. Of course there was a full load... I suspect that it's really dead this time. So, I did a load of plates and bowls, let those dry and put 'em away. Then I did cups, which aren't dry yet.

Ds4 is having a hissy fit about school. Again. I asked him if he knew the dishwasher was broken. Yah, Dad was griping about it this morning. I asked him if he knew what happened to the dirty dishes. Huh. Mom washed 'em and put 'em away. Do you think I enjoyed it? No. Did I throw a hissy fit? No. It was something that needed done, so I did it. So just do your school work!!!

Caught up now!!! Prayed for everyone as I read!

Busy, busy day today & I really need to go make menus & a grocery list, but I'm just not up to it right now. I've been having issues with the computer - mostly because dh installed Vista on the computer. I think I will really like it once I am used to it, but when I was trying to finish the newsletter for our hs group & I couldn't figure out how to insert a break or center text or make something 2 columns instead of 1 - I was ready to THROW the thing out the window!

Oh, Narnia, that smoothie sounds good! It almost makes me want to be sick if I can get a smoothie like that.

Almost, but not quite!

Sorry about the dishwasher, His. I hope you can get one soon at a price that works for your family budget.

Ellie, I love you talk about grabbing blessings! I wish I had focused on that aspect of God's care when mine were little- that He WANTS us to be greedy for blessings, or to put it another way, to be eager to do what's right. So smart of you to be accentuating the positive side of desire.

Brag alert: my son got an "A" in his online anatomy course!

I am so proud of him. In the past I have felt bad for him, as his sister got so much of our resources due to her "special needs"; i.e. her intellectual giftedness, social awkwardness and spiritual rebellion. We have been so concerned, and really doing everything in our power to help her be an overcomer and develop all her talents for the glory of God, that the "good kid" was sort of stuck with leftovers sometimes.

But he has no resentment, amazingly enough! I am so grateful to have a kid who walks in wisdom.

Sigh... I did it again... Cindy is SUCH a bad influence! I met with my swim coach last evening. We had a really good meeting. We compared thoughts/ideas on triathlon training/racing, etc. He agrees that it should be fun and not work or a burden. Also, he agrees that my kids come first, and if I want to do a ride/run with them, that should take priority. How liberating!!! We were having such a good conversation that we didn't notice that everyone else had left and they were sweeping the floors, etc. Yep... I closed down yet another resteraunt...

I'm still fighting the nasty bug I picked up over Thanksgiving. Last night the body aches started and they're still attacking this morning. Joe's not feeling well either so I guess we'll skip PE again today.

Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

Okay, I'm going to admit to how much I am an "air head"..lol....I've been walking with a friend every morning for about 2-3 weeks now. I haven't been happy with my new moring routine, but know I need the exersize. Today it finally dawned on me. Instead of coming home from my walk and "killing time" until our family devotions, which start at 9. Why don't I just do the devotions right when I come home from walking, that way everyone will be up and starting their day around 8:30 (when devotions would get done), instead of 9:30. I can't believe it took me this long to figure out how I can change my routine!!!

Last night I brought home some bunk beds that my dad fixed for us. I took the old beds apart, put the bunk beds up, then discovered the mattresses are too long. That was so disappointing!! Our house is small, so we had all these beds, mattresses, box springs, blankets, bunky boards all over the place and it was crowded, and so much work! But, the old beds are back up and things are back to normal... but it was so disappointing. I knew the mattresses were longer, and they are a tight fit in the old beds, but since they squeezed in, I thought they would squeeze into the bunk beds. Boy was I wrong!

I have one Ds that is always picking on the 6 yr old dd. She is a screamer when she gets picked on and it really drives me up the wall. I discipline Ds and discipline Dd for her screaming, but I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel when things will improve. Any suggestions? It is exhausting me and her screaming really rubs me the wrong way!!!

At least you would have drank the whole thing. She took few sips, said she liked it, but did not want any more. She keeps asking for food, but when you give it to her, takes a few bites and that's it.

Still has the slight fever. I'm getting concerned about the not eating and hardly drinking bit as this is day 3 of it. If you didn't know her, you wouldn't think anything is wrong or that she just has a cold-she is very stuffed up- because she will play and jump and act happy.

Wish I didn't have to go to dance tonight. She definitely is not coming. Even if she was 24 hours fever free, they keep the building too cold for someone who is trying to get over an illness.

Doesn't look like she will be attending service either.

Congrats to Shadow's son on the "A"!!!

His - don't feel bad! When we were doing our Mom's night out with our hs group, we would often close a place down. One night 4 of us were standing outside the door for like an hour after the place had closed & the poor teenage guy working there came out to ask us if we needed something. We all said "no we're just talking" and laughed.

Sue - hope you & Joe are feeling better really soon!

Annie - how disappointing about the bunk beds. We bought a mattress on clearance once & got it home only to realize it was a Extra long twin (which I didn't even know they made!). We debated saving it since ds will most likely have his feet hanging over the edge of a twin sometime soon, but decided we didn't want to store it & move it (this was before we moved here)! Wish I had some sage advice for the problem with your ds picking on & your dd screaming (sounds a LOT like my house). I'll be watching for what everyone else says!

Narnia - praying your blessing gets better soon. It's amazing how they can be really sick & still be bouncing around. Have you tried giving her popsicles? It's not exactly the time of year for them, but I know my kids like those when they are feeling yucky. They even have ones with pedialite in them if you're worried about dehydration (not sure how those taste though - I've never tried one).

Well - I have to admit I was feeling really down this morning. I feel way behind on lots of things (school is actually NOT one of the things though). I had a good prayer time & a good cry & felt a lot better! It doesn't help that AF showed up here this morning. Dh had his promotion test this morning. He didn't study at all. He doesn't really want to make it, since he wants to retire in the next 1 - 1 1/2 years! He says he knows he got 3 right for sure! He did say it wasn't as hard as he thought it would be. Well, I'd better go get us moving on some housework. The Christmas boxes have overtaken the living room & if we don't get things cleaned up we'll never get everything out of them so they can go back into the attic. It's a vicious cycle - KWIM?

So did it work?

His, you are not blaming me for this one! You can only blame me if I was actually sitting there drinking coffee with you.

Narnia, I'm sorry your little sweetie is sick, but if she's peeing at least every 12 hours she's getting enough fluid, so try not to worry about it too much. Not suggesting you're doing this, but sometimes parents get so freaked out that their kid isn't eating that said kid learns he/she can push mom's buttons by refusing food, and then you have all sorts of problems. However, if she's got a fever for more than 72 hours she should see her doc, so if she doesn't perk up tomorrow I might think about taking her in.

My dh and I are having a budget issue again . . . sigh. Everyone I know who's married always seems to have the same few arguments with their spouse over and over, and we are no exception. I don't want to treat him like a little child and say no, you can't have that, but every time he goes into a grocery store he totally blows the budget. Then I end up robbing both Peter and Paul to get other things we need. It's not like there's no food in the house.

Sort of. He's going to try to lose weight first and see if that helps. He thinks the fasting sugar wasn't accurate this time because he's taking cough medicine. That could have been the problem. Since I'm doing Weight Watchers, I said we're all going to eat the same way and have a goal of each of us losing 50 pounds this year.

Amy--Cindy and I actually were asked to leave a Bob Evans. I thought there were a 24hr place, but they closed at 10PM. We did stand outside talking for about another hour...

Cynthia--I hear you on that one! You would think that as much as I work out weight would not be an issue, but it is. Over the summer I never lost my winter weight. I'm scared to death that I'll add more winter weight over the winter. Obesity does run in the family.

Dd has an 8 year old boy and 5 year old girl. They pick on each other contantly. If she finds out, they have to play together for 10 minutes! If they can't play together, they end up in their separate bedrooms- grounded! Of course, the girl will scream about this, too!!! Maybe this isn't such a good idea, though. The neighbors called the police on Dd once. She told the officer that my granddaughter was in time out because she was screaming, hitting and kicking Dd. The officer saw that the screaming little kid wasn't being killed or injured and left!

She is doing that, so that's good to know. I'm not forcing food on her. She will ask for something, then barely touch it. She woke up from a nice long nap and saw Daddy was home. She really played for the first time in a while-ran round laughing with him. Did that until she started coughing at which time that play was stopped.

BTDT ... I have a bipolar dd ... I can't even begin to count the number of times we have had either the police or CPS or someone come round because the nosy neighbours called when dd was in the middle of a 3-6 hour rage. They peek in at her, see the bruises on me and on her siblings, see the bottle of medication she takes for it (to prove that it is a medical issue) then wish me good luck and leave.

My blessing may be on the mend. She had half a bowl of spaghetti for dinner-which is her norm. I will still keep an eye on her and take her temp in about an hour to see where that is.

Still has to be fever free for 24 hours before she can go anywhere. That's my rule.

Sue, if you and/or your hubby are sugar/carb addicts, you might want to check out THIS site. It's a relatively painless way to retrain your body chemistry. I was following the program and feeling great, and then sort of fell off the wagon - stopped eating breakfast and it was downhill from there. However, diabetes runs in my mom's side of the family, and I have decided that I'm in too much danger of heading down the same path if I keep eating like I've been eating, so I'm starting back up tomorrow.

I was talking to some teacher at the school where I work and mentioned about how someone said that if a kid didn't go to school until 3-4th grade it would only take them 6 months to catch up. Does anyone know where that is "published" anywhere.

Also, they said that part of why Finland has a high literacy rate is because they don't start a formal reading program until the kids are 7.

We had a good and busy day today. I went to Bible study and left Noah, Hannah, and Levi with Brian. I left a list of work for Noah to get done and Brian helped him get through most of it. He even got sneaky when Noah didn't want to do a page and had Noah "teach" Brian how to do it and Brian did the writing...Noah loved it! LOL

The neatness trouble he was having this year in the CS is disappearing already. Why? Because if it's sloppy, I write "please write neatly" and he does it again, just like his teacher last year made him do. This year's teacher would not do that for some reason. He's also gotten over getting things wrong on purpose (like just putting random letters for multiple choice questions or drawing lines matching things without reading them). Why? Because I'll mark them all wrong and make him redo it. Every time. Three days and these issues are pretty much gone. He barely tried them today.

It is so nice to have Brian here to help me. If I am working with Noah, he can watch Hannah and Levi. If I'm getting fed up with Noah, we can switch kids and he can do school for a while.

It's taking some time to get used to how I want to do the DVDs, but that's to be expected probably. He does seem to like them though. We did Bible and Reading only today, since we just got the DVDs yesterday. He liked it so much, he did all the assignments for the week! LOL Tomorrow, we don't have anywhere to go, so we'll see how the English and History are. Hannah likes watching them too, and writing/drawing in her "school" books at the same time as Noah. Yay!

Amy, I'm glad you are feeling a little better after your prayer time and a good cry. I have been sad today, too. Mostly due to Dh, he had a bad day. He has a chronic mental illeness and today was one of his harder days dealing with that. But ~ we'll make it through, always do.

I have been wrapping a few christmas gifts tonight. I'm hoping to stay on top of them so that I don't get overwhelmed at the last minute. I tried to print off my picture of the kids, to put in Christmas cards, but my sister didn't save it to the disk right. So, i need to wait until she mails it to me. She is always so busy, I sure hope she can get this to me soon.

That's a good idea. Brian and I usually wrap ALLLLLL the presents Christmas Eve after the kids go to bed. If I don't get it done early, I may be up all night doing it on my own. Yikes.

So much to do this month, it's unreal. Oy. I really want to do a Christmas letter in cards this year, but don't know if I will make it...
