Noah finished a couple subjects and I have him scheduled relatively light until the DVDs are here. He went with Brian to PT...Brian asked him to! How's that for incentive to get work done early and well?!

Oh my...do you remember Levi's first food? You know, the chewed up hot dogs Hannah fed him? Well, Esther's first food is Life cereal. Guess who gave it to her? I don't know why these children always think I am starving the baby. She's big as a moose!

I'm glad Noah got to go with Brian for PT. It will be good for both of them.

I can't believe I was up at 5:30 and still didn't think to start the December thread. Oh well, I like Donna's graphics and I'll remember to start one eventually.

Yea... I was up early, too! One of these months I'll start the chat thread.

It is very wintery outside today. Thanksgiving was absolutely beautiful with 50 degree days... now... .ta-da.... we have snow!

My house is a MESS... so I need to clean, do school, then go paint the nativity scene. Dd has an orthodontist appt. this afternoon and ds has wrestling. Tomorrow, I get to go pick up my other Ds, he stayed at grandma & grandpa's a few days extra after Thanksgiving. I miss him SOOOOOO much!!!!

I am back to square one with weening Noah through the night. So, I have been running on fumes since he wakes me up every 3 hours on the dot.

Happy December, everyone!!

Came back from sis's house in VA last night. I am so discouraged. I feel like God is working off my rough edges, and it is making it difficult to fit in to my life. Does that make sense?
My family is pretty negative and sarcastic, joking and cutting. I have always tried to "fit in" by being the same way. Plus, the two role models in my life, sis and Mom, are both negative and critical. So, I ended up with a pretty critical spirit.
God is working that out of me, PTL! But, I don't want this in my life. It makes me want to puke!!
So, the whole weekend, sis cuts me down and makes rude comments. It was interesting that her new sis-in-law called her on it a couple of times. I am praying that she sees what she is doing. I don't want to go back there... (to her house)
If I say the slightest critical thing to my hubby, she is in my face. How can she not see that she is doing the same thing to me???

Also, on the way back, it came out that the older cousins (age 17, 13, 13 and 12) were using foul language. Mainly niece,17 (my bro's daughter, nice Christian girl) and nephew, 13 (my sis's son). I am so disappointed in them all. In my daughter for not letting us know what was going on. I know that she does not want to be a "snitch", but it would have been so much easier to handle it at the time than now.

I brought it up to SIL on the phone on our way home, and she said "who brought this up"? Hmmm... what difference does it make??? I told her that I basically had to force the info out of daughter, when I could tell that something was wrong. Then the call got dropped, and I did not answer when she called back later. I feel that sis and SIL both are pretty unapproachable, so I am just praying and praying about it. I don't want to offend or stones to be throne back at me or daughter, and right now I don't even want to talk to my family...
And I get to spend Christmas with hubby's family! Lord, give me grace!!!

Another thought... I am seeing how much my negative traits were lame "defense mechanisms" to deal with my family. They have repeatedly called me on this, and as I said, God has been working them out of me. But, now, how do I fit in to the situation that caused this to start with? I want to be soft, gentle, patient, and loving. Not critical, cutting, pessimistic, rude... I just want to crawl under a rock and talk to noone. They all want me to not act like they do! (???)
I don't have anyone to talk to and this is very tough.

Ahh... gotta love the holidays. They seem to bring out the best (worst?!?!?!) in everyone. My dad was on my case yet again about not calling my mom. Well, I get so tired of hearing about all the great wonderful things my sister's kids are doing and the fact that my mother couldn't give a flying flip about what my kids are doing!

Now that it's gotten cold and dh is wearing flannel shirts it's obvious that nothign fits. He needs almost a whole new wardrobe. And we don't really have the money for it.

I've just started my first cup of coffee. It was almost like it wasn't meant to be! First, dh left me less than half a cup in the pot that was mostly grounds. Okay, so I'll have instant. Except, I forgot I was boiling water and boiled the kettle dry. Try again. Now, my coffee is too hot and no doubt I'll set it down and forget about it.

Misa, Pray for the Lord to show you what to do. He gives us the tools and the power to handle anything that comes our way. That doesn't mean it won't be difficult, but He will show us and help us. You may have to go in a direction that you don't expect though. It appears that it has gotten to the point that you are going to have to make some fairly radical changes in your life.

Yeah, not sure what, but I will do what He asks...
It is odd that these are the "close" family members, the only family that are Christians and my SIL is pretty much my only friend at this point in my life.

Yeah, it can be pretty busy here!

Sorry to be such a whiner... It is tough to be obeying God and have it be so lonely and discouraging. I know that He knows what is best for me!!

misa, sometimes looking back at the lonely times we see it was our sweetest fellowship with the Lord. You may feel alone but you are never alone.

I know but this time we are still on the first page.
I need to get my own internet!!!

We started December off right! It's the first official snow day for the school districts so we took one, too!!
Dh has been looking at 2 houses. They both cost the same to move into-$1200- but one is $600 a month and the other is $500. I guess the cheapest one has a bigger deposit on it. Well, the one for $500 is about a quarter of a mile from Dd's. The town is very small and only has a party store. We would have to drive about 8 miles to the other town where the more expensive house is to shop. I would rather have the house in the larger town. By the time we drove back and forth to the larger town to go shopping, to the library, etc., I think we would use $100 a month in gas. Dh and Ds like the cheaper house better because it has a basement and garage. I like the $600 one because it's closer to everything and has a garage, too.

Pray about this, OK?

Donna, glad you are homeschooling again!
misa, We had all kinds of problems with in-laws and relatives. We moved 1000 miles away from them for about 7 years. Now, we hardly see any of them and if we do, they don't treat us as badly as they did in the past.
Praying for ya.
BTW, God gave us friends that were better than family.

Hi all. Welcome to December.
Welcome Back Donna.
Sorry about the family issues misa. I think that the holidays do bring out the best (worst) in families.

If you guys could remember us in prayer this afternoon.... One of the older ladies in the church is coming over to "vent"/complain this afternoon. She is a very moody, up and down, blunt, person. She is a good person... but not very gentle. I have a feeling she is going to come to rip my Dh. His preaching style is different. She has mentioned it in the past and this could be about the same thing. The content of the sermons are fine... but he is a teacher/style instead of a shoutin, stompin kind. He uses notes..etc. Anyways, if it isn't about that, then it will be about the church. She has complained about that, too. She's been here 50 plus years, and complains about it. Anyways, pray that we will be an encouragment to her, that she will have peace, joy, understanding etc.. and us, too. Also, pray that my DH will be able to "get over" any personal attacks, about things he can't help, quickly.

misa, sometimes looking back at the lonely times we see it was our sweetest fellowship with the Lord. You may feel alone but you are never alone.

That is very true. I would recommend that you desperately seek the Lord and get deeply into the word. If you would like a Bible study, I would recommend Nancy Missler's "The Way of Agape". You will need both the text and workbooks. They are available (click here) through CBD. This study and the following, "Be Ye Transformed," are both excellent studies that will get you started.

We are working on character enhancement this week. so far it is going really well. What a difference when I don't let the curriculum push me in trying to do everything at once so we can focus without being rushed.

My cousin is an enforcement officer for the Liquor Control Board in our state. They also oversee tobacco sales. He was telling me that they use minors to do checks on businesses to make sure they are not selling to minors. My dd, who is 14, is looking into working as a tobacco enforcement aide. So far we have no idea what the hours or pay would be or if they are needing anyone at this time. Dd is excited about the possible opportunity though. She would get to ride around with an enforcement officer who would watch from the car to see if the business sold tobacco to her, then she would go back to the car and wait if the clerk sold to her.

Thanks Donna. That was an unexpected and sweet surprise.

Ellie,
What character curriculum are you using?

Cynthia,
We are big fans of the Misslers here.

Misa,
I understand how difficult in laws can be. A couple of years ago I had trouble with mine. Not fun at all.

Praying Judii.

Thank makes sense. I love how they bring the OT to light and to life. It is very exciting to see how it applies to us today. Sometimes when I am sewing, I go on-line and play his 60/40 broadcast, since we don't get it on the radio here. Very interesting.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I hate to be such a whiner, but really needed to vent. I feel so let down by them all...

Cynthia, thanks for the bible study recommendations. I have wanted to have something specific to study, but did not know where to start.

Melissa, honey, call me. We're not that far from each other. I'll be your friend.

I heard someone say recently that if you don't get along with your family 364 days a year, why do you think Thanksgiving will somehow be different? Sounds like it's time to set some boundaries with the inlaws.

I'm sure no one will be surprised to learn that there's a duck in my kitchen. She's supposed to be in the mud room, but she has figured out how to slip under the gate.

Annie, unfortunately some people just need to complain or their day is not complete.

Cindy--a duck in your kitchen? And not the eating variety? No, not terribly surprised.

I'm meeting with my swim coach tomorrow evening. My current triathlete coach and I just never got things to work. I contacted my first coach, but he's not available. He's the one who ended up taking our triathlon team to the Olympics. Good thing he's not available, as he's since raised his rates to $400/month. So anyway, my swim coach is also a triathlete coach. He wants to interview me first to see if it would be a good match.
