Ok . . . so this isn't about computers, but it is a question (somewhat) about technology.
Sorta . . .

Hairspray and hair mousse . . . Contents Under Pressure (read the warning labels on the back of such products).

Is it safe to pack these things into my luggage that I will be taking with me during a flight?

And yes, this is a serious question.

Thanks.

Lynn has done it in the past.

Of course the contents of her bag were rather sticky after the flight.

Well, not really...

But check with the airline or the TSA. They're funny about stuff like that. Wouldn't let Kayla bring her Sponge Bob toothpaste home from Calif not long ago.

ETA:

Looks like "No" from this site.

ETA #2:

Just buy them when you get to Frisco. That way you avoid any hassle at the airport.

Was she carrying it on, or was it checked?

My stuff will be checked.

You make a good point, though about checking TSA's website.

to Kayla not being able to bring her toothpaste home. Kinda of a hard thing to explain to a child . . . "Well you see, it's for the security of our nation."

Yeah, who knows what she might have done with it on the plane.

She took it pretty well though. Of course we had to replace it when she found out her dad wasn't going to mail it to her.

Oh fiddle.

I see your edit.

But it's kinda confusing (not your edit; the guidelines of the TSA):

quote:

Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities)

"No" is indicated under both carryon and checked items . . . but the explanation (above) says except for limited quantities.

How does one determine what limited quantities are?

I'm really just wanting to bring one of each (spray and mousse).

No. I think he wanted it for himself.

Did you see edit #2?

Not until I read your post just now.

I could do that . . . but my plane isn't landing till evening, and the next morning, I'll need them . . . and where in the world am I going to find that kinda of stuff in a city where I've never even been . . . well, I haven't been there in the the past 44 years and 9 months

Besides . . . I was trying to save money; I'm sure it's going to be a bit costly to buy that kind of stuff in a motel.

woe woe woe

I have the whine . . . did you bring the cheese?

..... in all my flights to Texas and back to Indiana, I've never had a problem with packing mousse. I've never packed hairspray.

I always put each container in a bigger ziploc back 'just in case'. I figure, if the airline has a problem with them, they can throw them out.

I think one of each is perfect and explanable. More than that would be questionable.

my 2 cents.

Fiddle.

I was hoping to finance my trip by opening up a hair spray and hair mousse kiosk.

Now my hopes are dashed.

Thanks, Rachel (for the info; not for dashing hopes)!

As you can tell, I've never packed this stuff before . . . mainly because I've not used hairspray in years, decades even, and mousse I've used sporadically and never cared about taking it on trips with me.

I'll probably pack one of each and not be concerned about it.

However . . . it just occurred to me, what if every woman and half the men pack that kind of stuff in their luggage. When does it become a danger?

See what happens when one is a label reader???

I did see at the TSA site that packing axes are okay in the checked bags.

I wonder if they need to dressed....

This is a portion of the rules from TSA

The TSA is the governing authority on luggage rules, not the airline. Rules for checked bags have not changed a great deal in the past couple of years. Carry-on luggage rules have changed, in ways that continue to confuse some passengers. Some examples:

What About Liquids?

Some airport rules allow you to take the water on board if it is purchased at a restaurant beyond security, while still others require you to finish drinking or discard the item before boarding.

Personal care items may be carried on provided they are in containers holding 3 ounces or less. These should be placed in a one-quart clear plastic bag for easy screening -- one bag per person.

So, get a travel size container for your hairspray and place it in a ziploc for carry-on luggage OR check the entire can inside your checked luggage.

It'll be fine...I think the only contents under pressure might be me when traveling

Shar-Mar, I think the concern is packing enough liquid to make a bomb.... and you won't be making a bomb.....

.... right?

As I understand it, you are fine. I've never been stopped or had these things confiscated by TSA, and I used to fly quite a bit. The reason for limited quantities is simply that if you had cases, on the plane, and they exploded... it could be a rather serious problem.

Pack your mousse and hair spray in a resealable plastic bag just in case they leak (do this for your shampoo and other liquids, too). Put 'em in your checked luggage.

You'll have no problems.

Thanks, y'all!

I'm sure this must seem like an awfully goofy question . . . but the other day, it occurred to me about the spray and mouse having the "contents under pressure" warning on them; and since I've never really packed them when I've flown before(whether in carry on or in checked luggage), I wanted to make sure that it would be safe to do.

It didn't occur to me to check TSA's website because that wasn't the angle I was wondering about.

You should be fine. The canisters that these products are packaged in are quite sturdy and will withstand the slight stress caused by the altitude. You get more of a pressure increase by leaving them in your car on a hot day.

The pressure change from altitude is really not that dramatic.

I have flown with shaving cream cans and never had a problem.

Have a nice flight.

I'm sure your hair will look fine.

were you thinking because of cabin pressure and airplane altitude that they might explode? hmmm...that's a legitimate concern. I think they'd be okay though.

Somewhat off topic: When I was in Mexico City, all the Pringles cans had their lids taped down because the inner foil seal bulged outward. It was sealed at a lower altitude, so when it came to Mexico City (elevation about 7300 feet), they taped down the lids so they wouldn't pop off!

Connie, not so much the cabin pressure (because I'm checking my luggage); but the altitude was along the lines of why I started this thread.

So why not use "pump" hairspray? No pressure.

Also, what about "travel sizes of products? You know the aisle in the store with little bitty products?
