...How many Christians memorize the NT?...We understand that our salvation isn't dependent on our works. Praise God that we do.

God bless,
Galadriel

Just how is memorizing the NT or even the entire Bible works? I would think that the knowledge gained would assist one with one's walk and also in defending the faith as one would not be misquoting Scripture or struggling with "now what exactly did such-n-such passage read?" while trying to answer someone's question or challenge. My great-grandmother could recite the entire Bible from memory, along with the US Constitution, Declaration of Independence, huge sections of local and state law, whole essays, stories, plays, etc. Her knowledge of the Scriptures and the works of theologians thru the ages was astounding. Indeed, no one ever out-debated her on the Bible or differences in church doctrines.

Honestly, are y'all afraid to try this? You mean to tell me that a backwoods Cherokee woman born in 1879 could do this and y'all can't? Good grief! And do not insult her memory by trying to say she wasn't a real christian... she was more christian than most folks I've known, including most pastors and other ministry personnel. She loved God with all her heart, walked humbly with Him each and every day of her life, and never lied, gossipped, cheated, or held a grudge. She dealt with unbelievable prejudice with strength and grace, and never returned evil for evil no matter what. Her gift of discernment was amazing, and her compassion for others was without equal. If you were sick or hurt, she would heal you even if your were cussing her out and calling her everything but a human being and spit on her.

King David extolled the study of the word of God, the commitment of the Scriptures to heart, and was he not referred to as a man "after God's own heart"? WHat would he say about this attitude towards memorizing the Word?

What does memorizing the Bible have to do with the topic?
