In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect — along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — "house negroes."
---
He said Obama's plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.

"Be aware that the dogs of Afghanistan have found the flesh of your soldiers to be delicious, so send thousands after thousands to them," he said.

Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was "facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognize and pretend not to see."

He said Obama's victory showed Americans acknowledged that President George Bush's policies were a failure and that the result was an "admission of defeat in Iraq."

But I thought the world was supposed to love America once Obama was in charge... maybe al-Zawahri needs to hear the hope, change, and unity speeches again.

By the way, who said that the dem's plan to cut and run would embolden the terrorists? They were just fear-mongers weren't they?

I guess they don't get the correct exit polls over there either!!

What does that have to do with Iraq.... especally since 99 percent of the Iraqi vote in the US voted for McCain??

I should have alerted you to turn on your sarcasm meter. I was referring to al-Zwahari's way with words. point being they have very colorful ways to express their fondness for Western infidels.

While it is unlikely that I will ever be elected the President of the Obama fan club, the fact is when a scumbag like Zawahri insults the American President, as an American citizen I am as offended as I would be if he insulted myself or my own.

And as doubtful as I am about our new President's resolve when it comes to dealing with such people, I hope this helps him find it in his heart to come up with a way to blow these people to Kingdom Come.

It's always interesting when your Inner Liberal surfaces. I would deem it a compliment to be insulted by a lying, murderous scurvy dog. Al-Zwahari, not you, of course.

I've heard a few pundits on the radio say that since Obama is now privy to high-security briefings that he may understand why this administration did some of the things it did and it will open his eyes. Al Qaeda was at war with the US before 9/11 and maybe Obama will realize this.

I think anyone who assumes the world picture will change because a new president takes office is very naive. And I think anyone who believes a new president will not change his or her tune after realizing what's actually going on in the world is also naive.

Pre-election promises are mostly empty, no matter who they come from. People know that, right?

House negro, huh!

Obama might just have changed his mind about meeting with our enemies without pre-conditions.

He may well send them a copy of a book on Political Correctness.

Thanks

Would explain why it really does seem PE-Obama has seemed to age since just winning the election.

Agreed. Obama is not only American, he will be our president. Any harm that comes to him is an attack on all of us. Though I do not like Obama's stances on most issues, he needs our prayers and who knows, maybe those prayers will change his views on certain issues.

I was wondering if Obama having a muslim dad, step-dad and also attending a muslim school for a few years while living in Indonesia caused some muslims to vote for him and it turns out that is the case.

quote:

"They are willing overlook where he stands on abortion, where he stands on gay marriage and the like because as far as Muslims in America are concerned, they want to advance the cause of Islam in the United States," she contends. "They are not worried how long it's going to take or who's going to help them facilitate it."
---
They believe he will advance the cause of Islam in the U.S. - 24%
They like the fact that he has muslim roots - 10.06%

Something to consider: if muslims can vote and did vote for a Christian, how come many Christians claimed they would not vote for a Mormon (think Mitt Romney)? I heard many Christians state they would not vote for Romney if he was the nominee; they would rather stay home and not vote than vote for Romney. Obviously it doesn't matter now, but I still find it curious.

I took a look on Al Jazeera English to see what the response was from the Muslim world. Most Arab, European, and Indonesian Muslims were split between those who supported Al Ziwahiri's statement (and most of them ranted about America's "imperialism and oppression" of muslims) and those who are tired of Al Quaeda and other terrorist groups. African Muslims, however, were highly insulted by the remark and spewed about the prevalance of anti-black racism among non-black muslims.

Muslims in America condemned Al Ziwahiri and Al Quaeda, commented on how much better things were for Muslims in America than elsewhere, and that they would fight Al Quaeda or any other group that attacked the US. A couple of US servicemen who are muslim commented that they hoped to blow out the brains of Bin LAden and Al Ziwahiri, and saw it as their duty to Islam to destroy Al Quaeda and the Taliban. Several took swipes at the pro-terrorist muslims' comments as ignorant garbage.

One of the US Muslim servicemen questioned why Al Jazeera didn't report on how the US military was building or repairing schools, clinics, mosques, bridges and roads and how our military docs were providing free care and life-saving surgeries for Iraqis and Afghanis, and that servicemen were handing out clothes, shoes, food and water, first-aid supplies, and other things to people. He said Al Quaeda and the Taliban weren't doing anything for the people, that they were nothing but parasites and dogs who took people for everything they have and kidnapped and raped their daughters.

Bet THAT goes over with a bang.

One black American invited Al Ziwahiri to come to his neighborhood and give his speech, saying that Al Quaeda was a bunch of (can't use that language here) who wouldn't last 2 seconds against the homegirls let alone the homeboys.

Personally, I was insulted as an American. I have no doubt in my mind that Al Ziwahiri is hoping to provoke Obama into a doing something rash, and I am confident that Obama is intelligent and mature enough to keep his cool. While we should continue hunting these dogs down, we also need to restore our relationships with the rest of the world that have been so damaged by poor foreign policy decisions.

Several Muslim friends say that the US needs to maintain a tough stance on terrorism and agressively persue terrorists because in the Muslim mind any hesitation equals weakness. They also say that the US needs to make Iraq step up and start taking care of itself, and pay its own way. They say that in Afghanistan the US needs to parlay with the warlords and tribal leaders and be prepared to honor any promises that have been made. It will be the warlords and tribal leaders who will determine victory in Afghanistan- not the US military and not the central gov't. Cowboy diplomacy will not work with tribal people and the US needs to learn how to better negotiate/barter to form the alliances needed with the Afghans to ensure any kind of a victory.

As US citizens, they all took Al Ziwahiri's insult against Obama personally, but because he's the President-Elect not because his father was Muslim. Do they hope all Americans become Muslim? Of course, just as Christians hope all Americans become Christian. The only advantage I can see is that they are very firm in their faith and Islam has very unwaivering ideals that seem so logical to non-religious people who are looking for something to believe in. Christians on the other hand, seem to waiver here, there, and yonder and all too often the walk does not match the talk. Add to that that many people who call themselves Christian do not have even a basic working knowledge of the Scriptures or know what orthodox Christian doctrine is. There's way too many folks who never crack open a Bible but call themselves Christian... and that includes some who go to church every Sunday.

By the age of 13 all Muslims are supposed to have memorized the Qu'ran. The New Testament is about the same length as the Qu'ran, yet how many Christians have memorized more than a few verses of it? I think churches need to begin basic classes in orthodox Christian theology and Apologetics- know what the faith is and how to defend it. Look at the example of the Apostle Paul- he knew the Scriptures from one end to the other and could debate the reasons for his faith successfully because of that. As educated as we are these days, there is no excuse why we are not able to do the same.

The only advantage I can see is that they are very firm in their faith and Islam has very unwaivering ideals that seem so logical to non-religious people who are looking for something to believe in.

Makes perfect sense... The word of God is going to offend the general public where the word of man(Islam) isn't necessarily going to...

Christians on the other hand, seem to waiver here, there, and yonder and all too often the walk does not match the talk.

That's because the bar is so low that anyone who doesn't outright deny God is considered a Christian... For example, the future President...

Add to that that many people who call themselves Christian do not have even a basic working knowledge of the Scriptures or know what orthodox Christian doctrine is. There's way too many folks who never crack open a Bible but call themselves Christian... and that includes some who go to church every Sunday.

Sadly it's because people are all to happy to accept anyone who claims Christ...

Paul was just as educated and knowledgeable of the word prior to his conversion.... Knowledge isn't the key, it's wisdom...

So John, what about putting out the challenge to memorize the New Testament by this time next year? And requesting that churches start orthodoxy/Apologetics classes?

I remember when I joined an big Presbyterian church here in Nashville- the church required basic PCA doctrine classes for people wanting to join the church. There was talk of strict Scriptural interpretation but not a requirement that one actually understand the Scriptures before joining the church. Wouldn't it make more sense to teach basic Scriptural doctrine to ensure understanding of the faith before allowing someone to become a member of the church? Personally I find an intensive study of the Scriptures and Biblical history a heck of a lot more interesting than some of the stuff taught in Sunday School these days.

In our circle that's what we discuss, and it can be pretty intense sometimes. Since we have no time constraints, we can take all the time we need to complete the discussion and decide whether we have understood it thoroughly enough or if we need more information. We have time to draw on early church writings, archeological and historical documentation, and other sources to flesh out the Sciptures and give us a better feel for the times they were written in, and as a comparison to today's world. And since it isn't "church", the teens and kids can join in on the conversation too.
