Florida doesn't like me. I'm far too pale skinned to live in Florida - I would have to hide year 'round!

I'm as pale as you can imagine, and I live here......

Lisa, do you burn if you don't protect your skin? I do, and I pretty much hide even here in TN from about May to September (depending on my son's summer activities). Does it bother you, or are you just used to it? Oh wait, maybe this is too personal. Don't answer if you don't want to!

LOL - I burn in the winter time - even up north! I've also gotten burned through clothing!

I've learned how to live with it - my makeup has sunscreen. I wear longer sleeves/pants and a sunscreen hat. I really don't intentionally go out into the sun (except for winter when I won't croak from the heat). IF I know I'm going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time down here - I wear good sunscreen on the exposed areas.

Sounds like you've learned to deal with it very well! You sound a lot like me, I typically wear longer sleeves/pants as well to protect from the sun. My make-up has sunscreen in it, too, and I also wear a moisturizer/sunscreen combo. I've been wearing sunscreen on my face daily since I was about 23, so one day when I'm 80 I'm hoping I'll have the dewy soft skin of a 60 year old!

that's partially why, at nearly 48, people still take me in my early 30's!

Hey, now! None of that rowdy stuff! There must be no breaking of the landscape. We should get together and have a lot of fun, but there's no need for vandalism!

I need to confirm with GnM that she is coming - so that I can stay Saturday night, otherwise, I'll have to leave early with my team.

I will be arriving in the area early afternoon on Friday. I won't have my tournament schedule until it gets a bit closer - so, you all may have to come out to the school to get me! I'm staying at the Ramada.

So, you won't have to pay for a hotel! That means you can afford it, right?

Time for a head count, please........

I will be staying at the Ramada Inn on Fort Walton Beach.....on the 9th. Unless GNM comes, I will be leaving with my team Saturday afternoon (but, if I have a new car by then, I *may* be persuaded to stay longer).

Hey, Lisa! Did you get my email? Unfortunately, looking at my schedule between now and then, things may be getting a little crazy and I'll need that extra day to get ready for work. I apologize... I was looking forward to the GT too. It's just that my caseload right now is nuts and I will probably be working a lot of extra hours and won't have much time at home for a couple of weeks after I get back, which is why I need that extra day.

No problem - with not having the computer right now, I am only getting sporadic emails as I can get online. This just helps me to plan. As I said, IF I have the new car by then, I may just drive up myself - but, I haven't decided yet - as I really don't have the $$$ to do so......

Let me check my memory on all this...

The contest will be all day Saturday, with check-in at the motel Friday and a little time for R&R (this being for the bowl team). There'll be an awards ceremony Saturday?

GTers cover all their own expenses, including a second night if so desired, and we'd got to a church somewhere and then depart from there back home? And Coach Lisa would stay an additional night if she can get a ride home the next day.

Other motels in that area are (is this the Ramada with the big rock bar in the pool?) well, other places pale in comaparison as to convenience and quality?

If I drove it, I'd likely spend some time with my sister in LA (lower AL) both on the way down and back. And I'd be watching my $$$ closely.

Thanks for verifying the details (or correcting them). Also, how's the surfing in January at Ft. Walton?

I can't speak to the event details (I haven't been paying attention, I guess, because I didn't realize there was a schedule yet)... but:

There are four or five big [mh]otels at SR85 and I-10.

Okay, I will be arriving in Fort Walton around 1pm on Friday. We have to register for the tourney beginning at 4pm and it begins at 5pm - 8pm. After that, I'm free. It begins again at 8:30am on Saturday and goes through about noon. Without wheels, I will be leaving with the team immediately after the tournament - so, the reality of it is during the day on Friday and Friday night, unless some of you want to come hang out at OW Saturday morning.....

So, yeah, Friday night is the best time.......

Does that help?

Skrey - what good restaurants are around that area? I'm sure my "kids" are going to want to go somewhere decent....but not too expensive. We all just want to relax.

Yes, I have a tournament schedule - seeing that is the only reason I am in town those days. It's at OW - so maybe folks can come out there too??? I'd love for some people to see the "kids" and the other teams.....

Near the Interstate:

Applebees
Bamboo (sushi, etc.)
Cracker Barrel
Hunan (Am.Chinese)
Firehouse Subs
Taco Town
The Wild Olive (a little pricey, but very good)
The usual fast food things

Fort Walton metro:

Red Lobster
Olive Garden
Moe's
Formosa (Am.Chinese)
Quizno's
Friday's
Magnolia Grill
Firehouse Subs
Cici's (AYCE) Pizza
Taco Town
The usual fast food things

Well and good. By schedule, I meant for the GT part. :) But yeah, if I can, I'd like to do whatever there is to do with youall'ns. I found out I have a meeting early Saturday morning (Jan 10), but Friday is open for me, as is Sunday afternoon.
There's plenty to do in Fort Walton, though the campus feels like it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. :)
[edited with new information on city; thanks, mutiny]

Sorry, should have clarified - it's at OW - FW - that's why we're staying on the beach. I made our reservations today, so we're good to go.

You'll enjoy the tourney - it's the 'brainy' kids - it's fun to see how much you know and don't know.
