The Bears ownership (the McCaskey's) is pretty bad also; although I grew up a Bears fan in the 1970s, and still think Walter Payton is the greatest all-around player in NFL history, three years ago I swore off the Bears until they are sold. at least the bears have had some great seasons from time to time....and, have been in, and/or won, a Super Bowl here and there... The Lions? They might make it into the playoffs once a decade...and, even then, lose in the first game. Is this another business in Detroit that needs a government bailout? no...financially, the Lions are doing just fine. But, thanks for the offer! Maybe to get some quick cash, the Ford family could sell the team to someone who knows how to run a football team.

Yeah, sure, Detroit hasn't won a game yet this year, but that is only because they haven't played the Bengals. Oh, wait, they did, and they beat them in pre-season. Sure it was pre-season, but it should tell you something nonetheless. The Bengals are terrible, and the owner, Mike Brown, recently went on record saying that he will continue to run things the way he always has, and he doesn't see any problems with the direction the franchise is going in. ?HUH? Exactly. That is why I have walked away, and will find better things to do with my time, like nap.

WITHOUT their starting quarterback. I'll still put Cincinnati ahead of the Lions (and that says a lot, since I've been a Browns fan for a long time, too).

Don't get me wrong, Detroit is horrible. But if they went head to head, right now, there is no shred of doubt in my mind that the Lions would beat the Bengals. The Bengals got lucky, against Jacksonville, who only made the mistake of walking into the stadium thinking "it's only the Bengals", which cannot be done to any NFL team. Yeah they tied Philly, but if Mcnabb had actually know how overtime works in the NFL he may have had greater sense of urgency. Look at the Lions. At least they can score. The Bengals haven't scored a touchdown in 11 quarters. They have been outscored in their last two games 69-6. It's too bad the Lions and Bengals can't play to settle the argument. I do think the Lions will go 0-16. And the Bengals will go 1-14-1. See, the Bengals are so bad they even screw up the chance to have a perfect season and go 0-16 themselves! Anyway, I hate the Bengals, and regret ever having fallen for the 2005 abberation. And no matter how bad anyone else might be, my disdain will always go to my hometown losers, the Cincinnati Bungles.

I won't argue with you that Cincinnati is bad. There isn't even a question about that. But Cincinnati DID beat the Jaguars (and, personally, I think that has less to do with the Jaguars being over-confident in that game, and more to do with Jacksonville being severely over-rated), and manage to tie Philly. Also, Cincinnati still has to play Washington, Cleveland, and Kansas City. While I'm pretty sure they'll lose to the Redskins, the Bengals always play Cleveland (a team that is also having a disappointing season) tough, and Kansas City is also in complete shambles. Either of those last two games could go Cincinnati's way... which is far more than I can say for the Lions, who were so desperate for a quarterback that they put Dante Culpeper behind center.

I do think that the Lions might actually do something that hasn't been done in 32 seasons. That is to go without winning a game all season. I think the closest we came of the second team to go without winning a game was the 0-8-1 (then Baltimore Colts) in the strike shortened season of 1982.

I know I shouldn't beat a dead horse with this argument, but I just wanted to point out: Cincinatti just beat (soundly, I might add) a very tough Washington team; Detroit is still winless. The Bengals may not have a lot of bite, but they're definitely better than the toothless Lions.

No team will ever eclipse the Bucs' record of futility in going 0-26 over two seasons.

Bill Cowher would need a lot of leverage $$$$$$$ to get him there because he has stated that he's not interested in coaching again many times. Of course, that's what he says in public. Like the Cleveland-Pittsburgh rivalry needs more reasons to be a hate-fest... I think my vote for worst team has to go to Detroit. The biggest waste of talent may be the Bungles. To think that only three or so years ago that team was on the verge of being up there with Indy and NE, now there're a joke. And the sad thing is, they beat Washington yesterday. Pathetic. It looks like we are again going to have to deal with winning a few late-season meaningless games, which gives us false hopes for next season, which means Bengal's management isn't going to change a thing, which means next season's team is going to be as sorry as this one. And around and around and around we go....again and again and again.

When did beating a team by a couple of points become a "sound" thrashing? The Bengals got lucky against the Redskins, and like the saying goes, even a blind squirrel can find a nut. Much like the post above mine says, here comes the part of the year where the Bungles win a few of their last games, and point to that (yet again) as something to build on for next year. What a load of garbage. It's the same thing we have heard for the last 18 years, and it is plain as the nose on Mike Brown's face that nothing will change next year, and the Bengals will be just as bad. At least in Detroit there is reason for hope, where an ineffective GM can be fired and replaced, and the current losing system appears to be in the process of being revamped for next year. Everything is the way it is in Cincinnati and it will NEVER change from being the way that it is until the owner, Mike Brown, either sells the team (not going to happen) or stops drawing breath (I won't hold mine). I will concede that this year Detroit has the worst team, but I will never admit that anyone has a worse NFL franchise.

But will the fans vote with their $$$ and not support the team. [/quote] Not going to happen. Unfortunately for those of us in Cincinnati who are "REAL" sports fans, there are way too many "fans" out there who admit freely that the only reason they go to the games at all is to have something to do on Sunday. So they are going to go no matter what. There are also the "sheep" to contend with, who are afraid that if they stop buying season tickets, the Bengals will suddenly become good and they will have lost the chance to enjoy it. Especially when the team finishes so strong at the end of the year every year. All the wins at the end of the year mean only that the owner (mike Brown) can say, "See, we are so close to being good", and he can be happy that the team won't draft as high, saving him money. All he cares about is making money. That is why the Bungles will never be a good team. I may be a fan of the NFL, but until it actually comes to Cincinnati and I can watch an NFL team play here as something other than a visitor, I will never, ever support this loser of a franchise. You couldn't pay me to go to a game. OK, you could, but that's only because I'm getting laid off from my job and I am getting desperate for money.

The revenue sharing structure is merchandise and TV revenue is such as team could play to a stadium of empty seats for a while and the team would still make money. It would take a couplete idiot of an owner and GM to loose money.

John McKay had the patience of a saint (not from New Orleans, mind you) to coach that team, and a sense of humor to boot. One of the greatest lines I ever heard came from him when he was talking to a group of reporters after his losing yet another game. When asked what he thought of the game he replied (and I hope I quote this right): "We can't win at home, and we can't win on the road, so we're going to propose we play our next team on a neutral field."

Yep. When asked about his team's execution, he dead-panned, "They should be." They had one of the worst team colors and mascot.

One of my best friends is actually a die-hard Tampa Bay fan (and I mean die hard from back in the days when they would regularly finish at the bottom of the NFC Central. He LOVED the creamcicle orange uniforms they used to wear. He even has an authentic Steve Young Buccaneers jersey in the original orange that his wife paid dearly for to get him for Christmas.

The faulty logic in this is that Mike Brown always stays so far beneath the salary cap he could sign another Pro Bowl caliber player, but he does not. Couple that with 65,000 Bengals sheep, oops, sorry I meant fans, who will buy every ticket available every year, and what reason would he ever have to change what he does? Brown will alway make money. We already know the man has no pride, so he cannot be embarrassed. Otherwise he would have done something by now to correct his record as the worst owner/GM in all of professional sports since 1991. He doesn't care if the team wins or not, as long as he gets to call all the shots. It will be the same next year, just look at them. The Bungles are going to win their last 3 games, and Mike will get to stand there and honestly think for the 17th time that the team is headed in the right direction and they are just a player or two away. And the sheep will follow, again.

I don't see the Brown's attendance looking up next year. Unless they hire Cowher as their next coach? Wouldn't that be a hoot? I might buy a ticket for that game...
