I don't really prioritize around them. I might to a certain degree, like when I was absent from home for a long time I called home so they could hear my voice on the answering machine.

I do talk to them like humans (and I sometimes answer back for them )

I spoil my dog.

I make fun of my sister talking about her dogs like they are children.

I understand calling a pet's owner Mommy and Daddy but IMHO, I am not the mother of my dog or my cat and my husband is not the daddy. I think sometimes it is easier to say than Your Owner and She Who Must Be Obeyed. I refer to my m'love as Boss Dog to my pooch. That makes him the leader of the pack.

I don't think the cat cares one way or another so long as their is a warm lap, a window to look out, and kibble in her dish.

Literally taken an ass can talk. I think the cats in my house do to.

I have preached to cows for practice, it was easy, there was no offering
taken, no backtalk, and well, they weren't quite ready for strong meat.

We've never told our pets that they are not human. Even if we did, they wouldn't believe us.

My cats would think it was a step down--way down--if they were human.

I usually prefer them with Szechuan, or even Mandarin.

Never Hunanized though.

I saw this thread and had to laugh. My wife and I have a poodle who is 14 years old, blind, and has a mass growing in his chest plus dumber than dirt. I have never gotten real attached to pets. But my wife has with Brandon. She never could stand poodles, but when she saw this little guy in a cage because he was so hyperactive at about 8 months old, she fell in love. Yes she humanizes Brandon and she denies it. We were at the vets office and she was holding him in her lap. A lady sitting across from us said "He is one spoiled dog." My wife of course denied it. Further proof - she has informed me when she is buried, she wants Brandon cremated and buried with her!! Arghhhhhhhhhh!!

I used to hold my last cat up to the mirror every now and then for a reality check to remind her she was "just a cat". She never seemed excited by the prospect.

DH and I will have conversations via our two doggies. We don't call ourselves mommy and daddy, but we do say "Alice, your person needs to take you outside". We didn't have children in our house for the first 10 years we were together (and just now have one foster baby) so yes, we humanize them. They get Christmas presents and birthday treats when we think it might be their birthday (both came from the pound, we just pick random days throughout the year to celebrate). Alice has gone on vacation with us, but Roscoe has been kenneled so far. Most of our vacations involve camping, so it's no big deal and she LOVES to travel. Thinking hard about it, we probably do try to make up for crummy stuff in their past. Alice (mastiff/pit bull mix) was suspected of being a meth-test dog, and Roscoe (full rotty) has partial paralysis in his face due to some pretty nasty abuse.

The cats have to stay home, but if they liked to ride in the car I'd probably let them. They totally don't realize that there's anything different between us, except I can open the food bag. Never fast enough for them, but they probably just think I'm a really, really old cat!

I've drawn the line at sending them to daycare!

lol.

You know what? I've always wondered...if youi drop your pet off at a day care or spa like that...wouldn't they get worried or anxious and wonder where the owner went?

Do the pets fight if they come in contact with other "abandoned" (for the day at least) pets?

Do you trust a place like that for your pet?

I named our dog Lucy so when I came home from work, I could say, "Lucy, I'm hommmme!"

The cat on the other hand gets what he deserves - the evil eye.

I would love doggie daycare for my Toby! He loves playing with others. I would totally do that if it were available around here!

I've shown my kitty her reflection and she either sits and purrs at it or looks behind the mirror. She's so cute.
