Is the word athropromorphize?...or something similar? ...
Do you treat your pet as if he or she was a human? ....talking with them and pampering them asking them how they are feeling? Do you see them as kids? Do you prioritize your life around them and give them whatever they want?
Do you try to empathize with your pets' emotions? etc..

Yes I love my cat. But I do remember my cat is after all ....a cat (not a person).

I never humanize pets. However, there are a lot of small (and not so small) very furry people with four feet living in and around my house.

Isn't that why we have pets? Granted we all know that they aren't really human but don't tell them that.

What do you mean humanize? Now if you mean getting up at 1:30 am to throw the cat's toy b/c she wants to play, making sure her food dish is in the room I'm in so she won't have to eat alone and getting her christmas gifts, then naaaa . . . I don't humanize her. O' got to go, I need to toss her toy to her. My mistress is calling.

No my cat is treated like a pet - not a human...
funny thing is she acts more like a puppy than a cat!

Mine are like my kids. They get toys when I go to the store and treats too! They are the babies of the family, literally, they are puppies. One of them sometimes wears a diaper-she's still potty training! I know people say they don't have emotions, but when they get into trouble and cover their eyes with their paws, I have a very hard time believing it!

This made me laugh. 
Yes when I had my cat Tellybear, he was the greatest and probably the first cat that was a talker. Boy I do miss him!
He even use to walk like a humanoid and sit like one too. He was great fun and on his birthday I took him to the beauty parlor.

To a degree, I guess I do, but I only go so far. I love Mr Jones to pieces, but if there's ever a fire at my place, I specifically instructed my daughter to run and not go looking for the cat....as sad as that maybe, he is still just a cat nomatter how much I love him.

Not at all. We take good care of our pets and want them healthy, but we don't humanize them or work our lives around them. As much as we adored our dog, Chloe(our favorite pet ever), and were heartbroken when she passed, there is no way I could ever have thought of her as one of my kids. What I feel for an animal can never be compared to what I feel for my children.

I agree with deermousie, the food bowl must have food to get them through the night or I don't get any sleep.
Yes, I talk to my cats...I have adjusted my position on the sofa to accommodate the eldest cat, Freedom, who does have a nickname that he will answer to...I often end up sleeping in the same position because he was on my legs and I didn't want to disturb him. He enjoys hugs and kisses and a good belly rub, but will give me a look to remind me he is simply a cat  ...My younger cat, Midnight Mowgli, objects to any kind of affection, does not answer to his name or nickname nor does he appreciate being touched. He will bathe himself immediately if you touch him. At first I was offended, now it's become a game of sorts (I think I may have a warped sense of humor). In his defense though, once I was horribly sick in the middle of the night and Midnight was the one who stayed with me until I was able to go back to bed; Freedom, however, was sound asleep

My husband and I have two cats, which are our furry children. Sure we know they aren't humans, but they don't really realize it. My husband and I always have to make sure that the bottom of the food bowl doesn't ever show through or we don't get any peace. Also, if they feel we are sleeping too long--they will get us up--one of the cats, which quickly got her claws taken out had this bad habit of using a claw to try to lift my eyelids open, which let me tell you definitely made me jump right out of the bed. And yes, I do talk to them--my husband always rolls his eyes, but I caught him doing it once when he thought I wasn't watching. I also have let the phone ring off the hook since my moving would have required the cat to be forcibly moved. My cats also have tastes for human food. When it was just one cat, I had read that cats didn't like carbs. I definitely saw it wasn't true when I once made a key lime pie and set it out, and came back in and saw the cat on the table, his pink tongue moving 90 miles and hour. They beg for everything we eat. But despite everything, they are the babies and get spoiled to death. It is really those two that run the house and we are just tenants.

Although I don' t think that their quite human -- it just proves the point that pets do have emotions (including empathy). My cats have done that too when I was under the weather.

It took 15 years of marriage to finally have a child placed with us. So yes, my pets are my babies because they were all we had for a long time. Hunter the dog is 10, Smudge the cat is 15, and Jaguar the cat is 2. We lost Scoop the cat at 14 years and 10 months and I still miss him dearly; he was my "single cat" and the other pets were acquired after we got married.
