I'm beginning to wonder if Palin isn't in a no-win scenario tonight: a) If she does poorly, Palin damages her public image (and by extension, McCain's) even more. b) If she does well, people will ask "Where was this Sarah when she was speaking to Katie Couric and Charles Gibson?" c) And if she does just so-so, it's a PR push - her ticket doesn't suffer, but it doesn't benefit either.

The debate doesn't start for 5 minutes yet. Why is there already a vote for each?

Biden: "They've been building madrasahs when they should be building SCHOOLS!" Me: "Wait, isn't "madrasah" the arabic word for "school"?"

I think Sarah Palin is great. But I really wish she'd learn the correct pronunciation of "nuclear"!

We'll I'm not clairvoyant but two-thirds way through the debate (not 30 minutes before)...I think it's safe to say short of a major gaffe...Sarah's won this one.

Both acquitted themselves well. They were composed and showed their clear differences in style. Whether anybody undecided will be swayed ???????????

Palin was charming and did better than expected in terms of preparation, and knowing a range of issues (her comments on Darfur were impressive). However, I think her comment about speaking to the people without the media filter was bogus; she's got to take responsibility for her own conduct. Biden avoided any big gaffes, and demonstrated his experience on an equal number of issues. I was also pleased that he was unafraid to call Palin on claims he felt were inaccurate. The tone of the debate also mirrored the first Obama-McCain go around in that it started strong, kind of of sputtered toward the middle, and ended with a thump. Maybe 90 minutes is a bit too long for these debates. Perhaps 75 is a better mark?

They are breaking down the debate on TV here and what do they have to help them, two very objective lesbian professors from UC Berkeley... Gotta love the Bay Area....

75 minutes would mean that they spend more time asking random partisans off the street to yell at each other post-debate. No thank you.

Ultimately, like most VP debates, I doubt tonight's will matter a lot either way. It was entertaining, but within 48 hours we'll all be mentally moving onto the second Obama-McCain debate which will hold more weight (and rightfully so).

If you watch Fox news, you may sometimes see Frank Luntz, the guy who does the real-time dials. His crowd for the night (of both major parties) OVERWHELMINGLY gave the debate to Gov. Palin. 4 of them said that her performance had swayed their vote to McCain, 1 said they were now going for Obama.

Biden was smoother and more rounded... He should given a better showing than Palin, who did more than hold her own... She was a tad bit *tight* at first but soon relaxed and looked as able as anyone...

However, I'm not sure the substance of her answers will really sway the Independent voters who will decide this election.
