Happy anniversary, Tricia!

I am sorry ... I just noticed that my silly post was one line, so I will have to say that I just got to work and have a pile of stuff to plow through ... what joy is my life!

WOW I am so happy.......not only is there now a chat thread which will be comfortable for my friends who don't usually post in singles anymore but it is one which encourages long post...........why do I feel like I have hit the jack pot?

i think someone just last week posted they didn't have time to read your whole post so were just posting off one paragraph, lol. i am glad you aren't a gambling girl joy2give2u, or we might have to request a suspension of your posting priviledges for hitting the jackpot!

LOL yes you are right........someone did say they didn't read my whole post........it was in a more serious thread I believe.

I am never sure why people don't read the post of another if they are engaged in a discussion. I guess to me it seems they are more concerned with what they say then what someone else has to say.......

It use to bug me when Rach would come to a thread and "post cold" because it said to me she doesn't care what anyone else has to say......then she explained to me it isn't that she doesn't care what others say but that she is not posting to join in a discussion on the topic but to answer the question the OP asked.........when she explained it I understood more even though it is not really the way I function..........since to me answers are not the purpose but instead to engage others in a discussion which leads to everyone learning from what others write and from responding to what others write.......

Diane are you still at the paper? Are you still working your side business as well?

Trish, Josie didn't help with the cookies but she did get a taste and seems to approve. Although, the kid will eat anything (except baby food bananas--but she likes fresh ones!). She had her first bites of cheeseburger today. I know...I'm starting her off poorly! Oh, and she's only 9 months so potty training probably won't happen for another year at least!

Congrats on the anniversaries, Trishy and Tricia! Austin and I have been married 2 years and one month today...does that count? Oh, and Austin and I did NOT meet in the Singles Forum or any forum.

Josie the Brave looks lovely .... and kind of reminds me of my youngest niece at her age. Her middle name is "Aminda" and I once joked that she was well named because "I'm into this ... I'm into that ..." (Of course, Psycho ex-SIL took it way too seriously ...)

Yes, I am still at the paper. They cut my hours back in May in a lame attempt to avoid an inevitable layoff. Of the five of us who got our hours cut ... only two of us are still here. One would rather quit than take the pay cut, and the other two were laid off (though one was "called back" to work as a receptionist for another department, so she's off OUR payroll but not the company's ... OH ... and the two of us who got the hours cut MAY get them back in November once the other guy is off the payroll.

The "side business" is going well ... if I do what I just did this week, I'll have enough to make up for those lost hours ...

Off to a meeting ....

The mini-pies turned out beautifully (and oh, so yummy). The hardest/worst part was making the graham cracker crust - patting it into mini pie tins was a little more challenging than using a larger pan. As for leaving it lying around, it's just too much to consume before the crust gets soggy. If we ate a piece per day, that'd be 4 days. Sometimes we've each had a piece per day and Kevin has taken an additional piece to work for lunch - that'd put us at 3 days. This kind of pie starts separating somewhat fast, so 2-3 days is about the limit on it to be really good. Of course, a graham cracker crust that's a little soggy with chocolate flavored juice really isn't THAT bad.

joy2 - OK, yeah, Kevin and I met on the singles forum. We had posted in some of the same threads and kinda "noticed" each other. Then in August 2004 in a chat thread (I can't remember if it was the ABC thread or one of the faster paced ones, LOL), I posted about how I was turning 31 in a month, and I wanted to do something special for it since I didn't do anything special for my 30th birthday. I said something like, "Maybe I should invite some hapless single man to dinner." He piped up and said, "I'm a hapless single man!" to which I replied something like, "Sure, come on over!" That little conversation started us talking via private messages, IM's, emails, etc. until eventually he came out to visit for the first time Thanksgiving 2004. We visited back and forth a few times each and did a LOT of talking on the phone (in the beginning; then we discovered Skype) and in May 2005 he proposed. Our wedding, as I said, was October 1, '05. I flew out a week before the wedding. We had the wedding here in Ontario instead of in Minnesota because of immigration issues - we didn't know if Canada would let me in the country if we were married. I didn't leave Canada until all immigration issues were settled, about a year or so after the wedding.

His handle is kg77; he hasn't really been on since the format changeover in 4/2005, though. You can find a few of his old posts, but nothing really interesting.

Di - glad to hear the business is going well this week!

Thank you for sharing your fairly tale ta_mosquito........may I ask a few questions? When you first met him did you know you were going to marry him?

Sometimes I wonder what that is suppose to feel like......I have known, while dating a man, even though he kept asking me to marry, God did not want me to marry him (I know I was very self absorbed and a horrible person back then) but just because God says no does that mean the opposite is true.......I mean just because God told you without a doubt you were not suppose to marry a man does that mean he will show you for sure that you are suppose too?

What if the man is a perfect match for a woman in the things they want in life, he is a hard worker, loves God with all his hearts and shows much fruit.........What if on paper it is clear the two of them should be together....yet the woman, though doesn't feel God saying no, also can't hear him saying yes.......

Do you think God always says yes or no?

Wow - hard questions. I'm thinking they'd make a good thread topic over in Relationships. If you post it, I'll respond.

haha the marriage forum is much worse, it seems like all the threads are from betrayed or soon to be betrayed spouses, but not all. any uplifting threads just seem to get buried over the great onslaught of people seeking advice. oh wait, there's that monster divorce remarriage thread where you have one small group of people copying and pasting the same scriptures over and over again for hundreds of pages. relationships forum talks about lots of problems too. hmmmmm it's not a matter of braveness joy2give2u, but if you desire to read what hurting people are writing and offer advice.

I think the point that Tricia was trying to make is that these questions are not the focus of this thread and they are better suited elsewhere.

just so everyone knows my point, i was describing those forums to joy2give2u so she'd post there as i'd never tell a moderator where to post or where not to.

ta_mosquito - if you thought as lisa thought, i apologize.

I don't think she's even seen your posts - they were directed at the questions that don't belong in this thread - they are topics for other threads elsewhere.

THAT was the subtle hint she was trying to give.

Okay?

Questions about what is going on in people's individual lives are fine - but ones that are going to get into long theological discourses need to go elsewhere.

Maybe I am having a little trouble narrowing down the focus of this thread..........according to the OP it is a place to come and share your joys, sorrows, frustrations, challenges, and elations. Isn't that what I did? I thought I was........I thought I was sharing a struggle I am having and asking advice from the family here.

Isn't the reason for this thread so that we can sit down and discuss life with family instead of doing so in the other threads where the only purpose of the thread is to give advice or answer a question?

Correct me if I am wrong but this chat thread was kept alive because it is special, not because the original computer101 thread gave advice on computers or the ABC thread was a flirt thread, but because in those threads something important happened.........people connected......they bonded........they became family.

This thread stayed alive as a chat thread because it represents what everyone needs, including singles, even in a forum.........a group of people who are like family.

This thread is special because it gives people a place to stay connected to those they have formed deep connections with over the years in singles and it is a safe place for those people to share their daily lives.

Is this the focus of the thread? Is this it's purpose?

If so then I am very happy to be a part of this chat thread. It is the type of thread which is needed in singles. It is fulfilling a role which is a large part of what the singles community should be......a place where building community is important........a place where community is more important then a topic.

If I am wrong and the thread is not really intended to be a place to build community for everyone in singles and it's real purpose is to be a place where those who have already become part of the close knit community can share life together then please tell me so and I will stop posting here.

For a very long time many of us have talked about how nice it would be if we had a thread where we could really connect. Where we could talk about our days, the things on our hearts and share life together..........a place to laugh and a place to cry.........a place where everyone is welcomed.............I thought, from what was said, this was that place........if it is not then where is?

I am deferring to Fritz to answer your questions.

I will no longer be a participant in this thread. It is making me physically ill.

You need to take the questions you asked to the Relationships folder.

The depth of your questions are not appropriate for a chat thread.

Now this next part is extremely important. Please do not disregard it in anyway.

Wow, there's been a lot of chatter in here! How's everybody doing?

Tricia, happy anniversary to you and Kevin.

Uh, Tammy, you have a point. Nine months is a little young to be potty trained. LOL. To me, kids just seem to grow up so fast that I think of them as older than they are sometimes. I'm glad she enjoyed helping being the quality control inspector of the peanut butter cookies though.

I'm going to jump in here to answer this. I have been around a very long time and I remember when these threads were created. I was even around before ta_mosquito, though I think I had a different handle (can't remember it) and didn't post much anyway. I wasn't really a part of the group back then and I didn't feel that people know me as well as this bunch does now (I posted maybe 5-10 times a month.)

I've always seen this thread as a reunion thread -- the people who posted back in the day became a very close bunch, but their lives took them away from daily interaction. They wanted a place where they could go that wasn't as high-speed as most of our chat threads are so they could keep up with each other and share about their lives. I'm thankful they have opened the thread up to others; they're not a closed-group. But I think we also need to be respectful of the fact they want a slower-moving thread so those who do not have time to keep up don't have to miss what's being said.

You're not wrong ... we are here to build community.

But honestly .... deep questions like those you've posted deserve their own thread.

The Relationships folder is a nice place. I've moderated it. Honestly, the only difference between that folder and this one is that you also have married people posting over there.

ANNNNYYYWAY .....

Long, lazy day here ... heading to work for the second day this week. Taking lots of comp time to make up for those 40 hour weeks I worked recently off the books ....

You have work now, and I'm close to bed time. I hope I can sleep. I've been having lots of problems with that as the fibromyalgia pains are just getting worse and worse than they were before. Hopefully no extra meds are needed to help.

I don't want to keep them from connecting G-N-M. I think the type of relationships they built is all most of us want an opportunity to build as well. I think it is wonderful when a Christian community is built in such a way it is so meaningful people, who's lives have taken different directions still, desire a place to stay connected...........I want that as well.........I want a place I can walk daily with brother and sisters in Christ who I have met on here.

There are some in the single threads who have connected with such a closeness but most of it has been through outside means such as IM , email and phone........Though those are great ways to build and stay in relationship they are not a place to do so in community.

You're not wrong ... we are here to build community.
Thank you Diane. I pray that is what this thread can be...... a place where relationships are built and lives are walked out together as a family in the Lord.

Cherish.......I know you a little from Rach's thread.......so I know a little of your story. Please know I am praying for you....

Wow I actually had to catch up in this thread. lol!

Joy I think all of those can be accomplished here. It's just a slower pace. And yeah, I may change it to Mrs.Dawgfan. Ha

...now that I HAVE to be clean, I didn't realize how my energy and time it took. lol. A lazy single=lots of time to be here. Oy! I would have been almost just as busy if I were a clean single.

Tea-tea, thank you!
