i have no idea as i only wear one a couple times a year at most ... probably whatever is easiest to tie ...

Maybe that's what it's called. Half and full. I've heard them referred to as single and double. But half/full sounds more right.

I gave up the tie wearing jobs long ago. Dress code for my company is "business casual" with nice looking slacks, and a collard button shirt. Collard golf shirts in the summer is fine. No tennis shoes, no blue jeans, and shorts only for golf days. It's just too hot in the southern summers to wear suits and ties.

I use a Windsor knot if the tie is long enough, the half-Windsor otherwise. The difference is negligible, because both produce a symmetrical knot, unlike the four-in-hand which is the knot that most people call the half-Windsor. Which means that the half-Windsor is the knot that most people think is the full (or double) Windsor.

I like a compact, neat, symmetrical knot. Half windsor only for me.

Oh well that's interesting. I didn't realize that. So if a four-in-hand is what most call a half-windsor, and a half is what most people call full, what's a full??????

I couldn't really vote because I tie both ways. I am a tall guy. If the tie is short I have to tie it single but if it is long I tie it double.

if I wore a fat tie, I would probably use a full windsor knot, fat ties, and fat knots are not for me.
if a half knot does not look symmetrical, it was tied wrong.

It depends on the shirt collar and the tie fabric. Although I usually use a full windsor, sometimes I use a half, and occasionally even a non-windsor knot like a four-in-hand.

The Four-in-hand is good for really wide 70's style ties, or for ones made of very thick or bulky fabric.

I only tie a double Windsor. The best way to tell the difference is that a single Windsor is almost always crooked (the knot slants) whereas the double is symmetrical.

I think what you are calling a double I have known as a full. The half windsor always looks crooked to me so I think that is what you call a single.

When I'm forced to wear one, I always tie a full Windsor. That's how I was taught. After 12 years of Catholic school and 6 years at a job that required one, I only wear a tie to weddings and funerals.
