ORIGINAL: Oldwing On my wedding day I also gave a ring to my wife's daughter as a promise to her that I would be her father in all things. Shortly after the wedding we were able to have a legal adoption performed and my daughter has been a shining light in my life from that day forward. This made me cry. God bless you, Oldwing, for doing it right. Your family is blessed in you!

1. I think the colors were cranberry and cream. 2.I had 5 attendants (and thus he had 5 groomsmen). We really couldn't figure out how to have less then that with siblings and friends. He had one friend, 3 cousins and 1 of my brothers as groomsmen. I had 1 college friend, 2 high school friends, my sister, and his sister as attendants. 4. We didn't do the bouquet toss or the garter toss. Instead I gave single girls white tulips from my bouquet (I kept 1 white tulip and the 1 pink tulip). 5. My one regret is that my brother did not play at my wedding. He (and his girlfriend at the time) were both musicians. I guess I didn't give them enough direction. I thought it would be easier if they chose their own music. A few months before the wedding they both declined so we hired a teenage pianist we knew. My maid-of-honor sang (which was beautiful...she's fabulous). Unfortunately she didn't get the tape she wanted for her song so we ended up going to the mall on Saturday morning, on our way to the church, so she could find another song to do. And she picked a song I hated, but it worked out fine because she did it so Gospel that I don't think anyone would recognize it for the song it was. 6. I have this hilarious memory of everything going wrong--my hair was too tight, the flowers didn't come, it was raining (and we were supposed to have an outdoor reception) and my grandfather's second wife was sitting in her wheelchair in the middle of the living room saying, "Kurt? do you think I should put in my eye? I bet no one would notice if I even bothered. I could go around with one eye and no one would care. Do you think anyone would notice, Kurt? No one ever notices." (She had a glass eye, btw.) And I, who was stressing about what we were going to do about bouquets and boutinneres and music and how bad my hair was laughed until cried in the bathroom. After that I loosened up my hair and enjoyed everything no matter what happened.

Fun! I'll play along... 1. We got married the week before Christmas, so the church was already decorated with reds and greens, with beautiful floor to ceiling Christmas trees and red poinsettas at the front of the church. I had always wanted a red wedding, so we didn't have to do much more in addition to the decorations the church already had out. 2.We each had five attendants -- two friends on each side, three family members on each side. My sister was the matron of honor, and his cousin was the best man. My brother-in-law walked my mother down the aisle, and he and my cousin (male cousin) lit candles at the beginning of the ceremony. We had ushers who were friends of my husband, and another couple of our friends were in charge of the guest book and cutting the groom's cake. (We had someone from the bakery cutting the bride's cake.) 3. I'm not sure how to post my own pictures (ha!), but I can do links! It's been a few years since we married, so I had trouble finding the exact choices that we went with, but these are very close. So close that I can't see much of a difference at all! My dress My bridesmaid dress The bride's cake (It's cake number six, except ours had circular, all white layers and red flowers.) 4. My husband and I met on a mission trip to Vietnam and spent time while engaged on a mission team to the Middle East. We opened our ceremony with a Scripture reading in three languages -- Vietnamese (courtesty of a friend whose parents had immigrated from Vietnam before he was born), Arabic (courtesy of a friend from Iran), and English (courtesy of a friend who speaks English -- ha!). They read the prayer of Jesus from John 17, and it was absolutely beautiful. The only other unique thing was that at the reception we toasted one another with a Texas treat called Dublin Dr. Pepper. My sister attached tags with "Mr. _____" and "Mrs. _____" to the glass bottles.... so no one would drink them before we got there! :) 5. We had a harpist and a flutist play Christmas hymns for the processional. I had an organist join them to play the bridal march for my entrance, and we had "Joy to the World" for our recessional. One of our friends and his wife played/sang the praise song "Thank You" on the piano during the unity candle. The harpist and flutist played Christmas music at our reception. 6. I remember ducking into the empty fellowship hall after we walked down the aisle together, to steal a few hugs and kisses while we were alone. :) I remember how unseasonably warm it was for December and how my husband was, as a result, slightly sweaty for all of the pictures. I remember burning my dress during a re-enactment of the lighting of the unity candle. I remember leaving the reception TOGETHER just as the sun was setting, knowing that we'd never have to go to separate houses ever again. Yay! :)

I'll play along! It's been 17 years! 1) The colors were sort of an off peachy pink and black. All the Bridesmaids dresses were made for them and in a style that they chose. My Mom made all the cummerbunds and I purchased as a gift all the ties for the men. My flower girl wore a little white dress with a pink ribbon sash! What scares me is that my sweet little 5 year old flower girl just sent me HER wedding invitation! We really didn't go all our decorating the church or the reception hall. Just a single rose or two in a simple vase on the tables and the bridesmaids all carried single roses as well. 2) Attendents - I had my best friend as my matron of honor, my eldest sister, a cousin, and another college years friend as my bridesmaids. My younger sister was a jr. bridesmaid and then my little second cousin was my flower girl. Hubby had my matron of honors hubby and his friend as his best man, and three other friends as groomsmen. My brother was supposed to be a groomsman but he didn't make it to my wedding and we had to have one of our friends who was suppose to just sing stand in as a groomsman. He also had the little brother of a friend of ours as a jr. groomsman. He looked so cute walking up the aisle with my baby sister! Hubby's sisters were our guest book attendant and cake server. Also serving cake and punch were the lady I lived with at the time and another cousin of my husband. My baby brother was our guest table attendant and my middle brother and two of my cousins were ushers. 3) I have a whole wedding album full of photos! To take the photos to post would take me a great amount of time! I might have to find and scan that photo of my baby brother sleeping under the gift table! He was only 9 years old and was dealing with the aftermath of a nasty allergy/asthma attack on the day of my wedding, that almost ended him up in the hospital! 4) Something unique about our wedding? Let's see. We were married on my hubby's grandfather's birthday. My FIL had just endured his third surgery after being in an elevator that failed and fell 2 stories and ended up with a casket laying on top of him. He was in major pain the day of our wedding. My brother tried to call for someone to come and get him (he was stranded just 20 miles from the church), but the only person in the church basement where the only available phone was located was in a wheelchair and couldn't reach the phone. With my brother not showing up we had to find someone to fill in for him and hubby chose a friend that was also singing for us. Hubby's Grandmother had to be told to chill out at our reception because she had a tendency to pull a "Maria Barone" from Everybody Love's Raymond fame. Oh and I left my hat and veil at the hotel and someone had to go back and get it for me! 5) Music was a major part of our ceremony! For processional we had Never Be the Same (by Ron Griffin) played on CD. When I entered the sanctuary I had the traditional bridal march played on handbells by the director of the handbell choir I was a part of. My best friend and matron of honor sang No Other Name (Sandi Patti made this song popular at that time). A bit later we had a friend of mine play guitar and sing Beautiful Savior as done by Glad on their Romans album from 1989. A bit later the same friend sang I Will Be Here by Stephen Curtis Chapman. Right after the candle lighting and prayer another friend and impromptu groomsman sang Devoted to You (Imperials) Then for the recessional we had a CD of Whiteheart's Edge of a Dream . 6) It was all rather memorable to me. I do specifically remember our pastor telling our guest about his views on pre-marital counseling and how his denomination was considering reducing the number of hours they liked for couples to have and how he thought it was a wrong move and that there really should be MORE. I remember my grandmother looking at me and being so proud. She called me her angel so many times that day and made my hubby promise to treat me like one! That's a promise he has kept and if he ever failed, I do believe she would convince God to let her come back just to haunt him for the rest of his life! Blessings, Garsy
