I know we've had this thread before, but it's been a long time...and to relate it to being single, make sure and tell if you stumbled on this due to being single (like looking for a place like this folder), or if it didn't have anything to do with being single.

I use the Crosswalk portal, and I stumbled upon CW, after seeing an article in People magazine about a family that had 17 kids. I was fascinated, and so I googled them. There happened to be a thread going on in parenting about them, and I joined. Some of my viewpoints (about this Duggar family) were different than some of the others in parenting, and things didn't go smoothly that first night, so I told them good-bye for good, and then I was encouraged to stay. I first mostly hung out in WO, and the also homeschool support, public and private school support, parenting, and a couple others. I was intimated by the singles folder at first, but that changed after some warm welcomes and reassurances, and now it's starting to be my favorite folder. So even though I wasn't looking for anything regarding my single status when I stumbled on CW, I have been very blessed that I found a place to fellowship with other singles here. My church is small, and I AM LITERALLY the only single my age, although, I do have more fellowship now that the 20 somethings are getting a little older, but it's hard sometimes, and I'm so thankful to be in this folder of people who are in more similar situations to mine.

About 3 years ago, I heard an advertisement for Crosswalk on a local Christian radio station. I thought it sounded good and I went to the site, then stumbled onto forums. I posted in a lot of folders, then stumbled onto the Singles folder. I liked it and posted here on and off for a while. But, I started to become more active this year.

I was having a bit of a personal crisis and I googled christian forums or some such (actually I used dogpile.com) and I found CW! Turns out I wasn't really having a personal crisis... I just thought I was. Now I believe I was walking away (half willing and half being led away) from my old life and walking to the life I am purposed to have. I couldn't be more happy!

I stayed away from the singles folder for a couple of weeks because I wasn't sure if people would think that I just came in here to "find a man" or not... didn't want to give off that impression. I also couldn't be sure of my own motivation (at the time) for wanting to post in here.

It is nice though to have this wonderful folder to post in!

don't get me wrong... i still want to "find a man"... but i'm not posting here to further that dream. The atmosphere is nice and supportive. I like that.

I can thank trainfan (Aka Craig) for introducing me to all you wonderful people. This has been a lot of fun already and I haven't even been here three weeks!

Sometimes I feel like other people don't understand where I'm at in life (32 and single), but I feel like you all "get it" because you're there too. Thanks for the way you encourage me even when you don't know you are.

Stumbled into it due to a radio add. Spent teh first few weeks in Morality and Ethics and Current Events.

Decided that if I wanted to fight the heathen I'd do it at freerepublic.com and started to look at other forums here. "hey! They have a singles forum" So I poked my head in,, made a few puns and they haven't let me leave. I have met some phenomenal people in here.

John_O and Blue eyed girl, you forgot to say which portal you use.

Cool stories though. Rgod and Raivynne have great stories too.

Faith community network. Used to use crosswalk but they fouled it up in the last redesign. Sometimes I think web designers operate on the "fix it until it's broke" school of thought

So your initiation didn't go so smoothly, either, huh? By fighting the heathen do you mean people were pushing bad morals, or just that their demeanor was rude?

*whispers* I don't know what a portal is, but I think I use the Crosswalk portal. Should I know what a portal is?

I think it is the port you use to enter this here land........I come through christianity.com.......I use to use CW but they went and changed the color....I like the tan of christianity.com.....very naturish.......

I came because a friend of a friend, who goes by the name of always8chel, kept bugging me to get on.......As we became friends through IM I was busy lecturing her about how she needed to get real life friends and live her life in the real world and not this fake one.....I told her she could not meet a man online that men online were just being who you wanted them to be, not who they really were.......

so I finally got on to prove to her this world wasn't real...that these people were just names on a computer......that they could not be there for you like a real life friend.........and to show her that meeting a man on here and marrying him was foolish......

I am still here LOL........but I was successful.......she married now to a man she did not met here LOL

Both. Although TOS forbids doubting someone's spiritual status due to their beliefs, I don't think advancing homosexual rights or abortion on demand (mong other abominations) is why Jesus left us here.

Yeah, I don't think so either, though I'm surprised that you ran into that...(I think Salem Community Network has an official stand against both) ...you must run into different people than I do, 'cause I am pretty conservative, but on here (here, the forums, not here, the Singles folder), I've met some people more conservative than me (some women here only wear dresses, cover their head all the time, and, within a marriage, eschew any and all forms of birth control). I cover my head in church, but that's it. That's one of the reasons there was so much tension the first time I joined...I happened to have, believe it or not...some negative opinions of the Duggars..that didn't go over well.

freep??!? :) I haven't been there since the 2006 elections LOL

My mom used to post there more than I did... not sure if she still is though. I think her blood pressure needed a break from politics.

Been there since 1986 (IIRC) Search for John O. I don't post too much as I'm normally here, but every once in a while I'll chime in over there.

Answering the 2nd part of the question first . . . I, personally, am not a portal.

. . . However, the vast majority of the time I use Faith Community Network's portal to come to the threads; other portals, if FCN is loading too slowly.

I found the forums back in early 2000 <--- edited ---> 2001, while recovering from triple surgery at some friends' house. On her way to work one morning, one of those friends told me about a cool website that had a pretty neat "Who is Jesus?" article. That website was Crosswalk.

After reading the article, I perused the website and then found the forums (which was the first time, I believe, that I had ever heard of "forums).

After lurking for 5 month, I made my first post . . . over in "General Topics" (which today, the equivalent is "Community Lounge / Personally For You").

I got a message from my friend Greg. He asked me to sign into the forums to help promote his groups newest CD on the SG forum. So I signed into the Singing News portal. I posted a few times. Well then a few months later I was decided to sign in and look around. Now you can't get rid of me. I ventured out of the SG folder (of course) and I now use FCN to log in.
