The first time I told my husband to be why I wasn't feeling good was when we were about 6 months from being married. We were engaged for nine months. I remember it seemed natural to tell him, but I also thought it was strange because I had never shared that kind of information with another male -- except my dad whose house I grew up in.

When the time is right, I think you'll know it.

I guess I just don't want him to worry. He already is because last night I was fine and today I haven't even made it out of the house. I have bad ickies. We are newly dating though.

when I was in your situation, I would say something to the effect of "it's nothing to worry about, it's a girl thing" and that was always plenty of info for the guys I was dating.

This leads to a funny story: About a month ago, he went to the drugstore to purchase lighter fluid and a pregnancy test but couldn't find either one. So, he asks for help and tells the clerk that he needs lighter fluid for the the grill and that he needs the pregnancy test because he is late. He has no shame and delights in embarassing other people.
LOL that sounds like something my sweetie might do ... he is always funny like that

When I was young teen...the thought of buying my own pads was embarassing to me...but I grew out of that along time ago lol

LOL, I used to get embarassed sometimes too, especially when I was at the store with my dad. We'd walk by that aisle, and he's say so matter-of-factly, "Do you need any feminine products, sweetheart?" LOL! Geez, Dad, just blurt it out to everyone!

I can say i've never sent dad out for those...lol

The pantyhose fiasco was enough. It was prom night and my nail caught the side of them and they ripped. I sent him to the store while I continued to get ready. He came back with like 10 different pair because they didn't have the kind i'd sent him after.

He did...lol. I was in tear when he left and ruining my make-up, but when he returned I laughed so hard I cried.

Do you mention things to your husband/boyfriend/fiancee about it? Like I usually feel horrid, so I can't just tell him "I feel bad" because then he'll ask whats wrong. I tried tell him I just felt icky, but I don't think he really understands that.

I would just say "oh, you know... just that time of the month" or something nonchalant.

My Dad has bought products for all us girls, we used to just send him with the empty bag/box and most of the time he could figure it out.

My one sister is *very* private about girl things. She started a period while my mom was gone for 3 weeks(she was here with me when I had DD) and Dsister needed supplies... She never did manage to get up the courage, she had our youngest sister ask, lol.

When I first started my period I would never have asked my Dad for supplies, but by the time I was in highschool it was no biggie.

I used to tell him "The curse of all women is upon me" - pretty hard to misinterpret that. Now all I have to say is "Not feeling too great" and he gets it. (Of course, we've been married almost 14 years, so he knows my cycle about as well as I do.)

To answer the original OP, I keep open boxes of tampons beside the toilet at all times, so nah, it doesn't bother me. I also stockpile them, so I have a huge tower of unopened boxes over next to the bathroom shelves. It never occured to me that might look odd to someone until now.

Shhh, I haven't told my dad yet that I get that visit - considering I have two kids, I think he knows but I'll never tell.

Never told mom any more than necessary because it seemed to embarrass her.

But my 14 yo sons knows that I need 'girly stuff' and he just asks that I don't make him go down the aisle.

Well he and I discussed it. We were having a deep conversation about feelings, emotions and code words for when I was upset. So I said "speaking of code words....". So now he knows what icky stands for and to watch out for an emotional roller coaster.

First time I started was on my dad's birthday. I thought I would die!

this was a conversation we had a long time ago:

Me: Im sorry i can't go out today
boyfriend: why? whats wrong?
me: i feel sick
boyfriend: where does it hurt?
me: hmm my tummy
boyfriend: why did you eat something bad?
me: hmm no, it just hurts (losing patience)
boyfriend: have you taken a pill?
me: no, i will go away soon (desperate)
boyfriend: do you want me to buy you some medicine?
me: no, its ok (more desperate)
boyfriend: maybe it was dinner last night..
me: shut up! its my period!!!!!!!!!!!!! get it!!! (lost it)
boyfriend: ah... aham.. ok.. aham.. (speechless)

and thats how it all started and now it has become more natural to talk about it so i guess once we get married it will not be more embarrasing than this akward conversation!
p.s. im only engaged though!!!

My hubby can't stand talking or hearing about periods. He has a younger sister but he still gets all silly and immature when you talk about it. I am fairly honest and open so I didn't find it embarrassing at all. I just say "it's that time of month" when I refer to it. I would never do anything in the bathroom infront of him though. And I only do no 1 if he is in there. I like to have my privacy for no 2. I can't even do that if someone is in the next room!!
I burp infront of hubby, but I don't think I have ever passed wind, in my family you had to leave the room if you were going to do that. His family does them all the time though, and he will do no 2 with the door open

My husband is more in tune to when I am going to start than I am, and picks up on my pms before I do. I don't even keep track anymore of when my period should start since the vasectomy 9 years ago. So if I notice I am starting to get short or feeling on edge I will ask him if it is near that time of the month and he says yes.

I don't think we ever had code names or anything it was usually I started today or I am on my period.
