TorchHeart -> Can anyone in here help me write music? (9/10/2008 4:31:56 PM)

I'm looking for help. I've been working on a song but I have no clue how to write music. I know how I want it to sound, and I think I have the lyrics worked out the way I want. Would anyone be able to help me?

That is a bit difficult to do over the web.

How much music do you know?
Do you play any instruments or do you sing?
Can you read music?
Do you know any theory?
Do you have a sense of rhythm?

the harmony wheel

if you have a basic understanding..... this might help you a lot.

but usually the best thing to do is find someone close who can put chords to your melody.

Unfortunately, I know zip, zilch, and nada about how to write music. My own singing has been likened to a blend of sounds from a truck load of pigs after it crashed into a truck load of geese.

Here is all I have for lyrics. If anyone can do anything with them, you can have them. Thanks.

music used to let me into your soul
i'd use it to say what needed to be said
when distance prevented my arms you to hold
a song would let my love to you be sent

old cassettes and memories
all i have now days are these
the melodies still sound the same
sometimes they help me ease the pain
songs upon a radio
an amateur disk jockey's show
replay the ones from you and me
on old cassettes and memories

taken from my heart once and again
the hurt that lingers is strong as it was then
the chapel called you to separate vows
and the distance between us is greater now

but my love for you remains
and all that really keeps me sane

are old cassettes and memories
all i have now days are these
the melodies still sound the same
sometimes they help me ease the pain
songs upon a radio
an amateur disk jockey's show
replay the ones from you and me
on old cassettes and memories

songs from bands that no one ever hears no more
except in instrumental form inside some store
but late at night inside an old boom box
they reach a door inside my mind and undo the locks
the soundtrack for a movie of you and I engrained
and that remind me that i'll always be the flame

from old cassettes and memories
all i have now days are these
the melodies still sound the same
sometimes they help me ease the pain
songs upon a radio
an amateur disk jockey's show
replay the ones from you and me
on old cassettes and memories

I saw these in another forum, perhaps one or more of them might be helpful.

some keyboards are set up to plug in to your computer--add some soundchaser software and you are in business! You play on the keyboard, and the software puts it into writing for you. This will do all kinds of other cool stuff too!! You can teach yourself music theory, ear training, and do multi-level sound texture recording as well as other digital wonders -- I would talk to a high tech music store, or shop around on line. The last time I used one was the earliest model in the 80's in college.

Have fun!
