tcasboy -> Which organ is associated with the soul? (9/8/2008 6:05:21 PM)

I assume it is the brain. I'm guessing you would all agree this child has two souls.

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2006-08/10/xin_230803101610400972933.jpg

She has two heads but only one of all the other organs.

In some very rare cases conjoined twins are born with one brain but an entire separate body (I'll spare you the pics). I assume you would agree that such a child has only one soul and that the extra body can be removed and destroyed without raising any moral issues.

What about anencephalic babies (born without a brain). Do they have no soul?

It is reasonable to assume at some point in the future brain transplants will be feasible.

Let's say a person a body is destroyed beyond repair and his brain is transplanted to person b who just has a fatal brain injury but whose body is healthy.

Will persons a's soul be transplanted to person b?

And you became a member of crosswalk just to ask that question?

That's deep man. deep [sm=smile-l.gif]

No, just trying to not ask the questions that have been asked and (usually not) answered 1000 times before. Sometimes I'll hit and sometimes I'll miss.

If the nature of God is as you believe it to be, then there are definitive answers to these question. Care to speculate on the subject?

ames01 -> RE: Which organ is associated with the soul? (9/8/2008 6:41:01 PM)

I think it's a large assumption to make that the soul is associated with any organ in the human body. To my knowledge (which admittedly isn't that extensive) the Bible doesn't associate the soul with an organ. And if that's the case, it's a little hard to answer the rest of your statements, since they are based on the assumption that the soul and brain are associated.

PureLight -> RE: Which organ is associated with the soul? (9/8/2008 6:50:02 PM)

I would say that the soul is of spirit and not of flesh. It resides in us but on a different level than we can reach, I'd think.

deermousie -> RE: Which organ is associated with the soul? (9/8/2008 8:20:57 PM)

It's funny you should ask, because I asked my husband this very question about two weeks ago. Two brains usually means two personalities, so I'm guessing two souls. But it's just a guess; I have no Scripture to back it up. A baby is continuous to it's mother's womb and there are two souls although they will separate at birth.

The personalities may come from the soul; it will be interesting to find out God's take on this some day. I think the soul is not in a specific organ, because our souls live on after all parts of the body die.

Dealing with the limits and essence of the soul is pretty deep, actually.

Jeremiah 4:19 My heart, my heart – I writhe in pain! My heart pounds within me! I cannot be still. For I have heard the blast of enemy trumpets and the roar of their battle cries. 20 Waves of destruction roll over the land, until it lies in complete desolation. Suddenly, every tent is destroyed; in a moment, every shelter is crushed. 21 How long must this go on? How long must I be surrounded by war and death?

Possibly the heart.... not the organ.... but that part of us that hurts, fills with joy, breaks over injustice....

You know that feeling.......

Lamentations 3:20 My soul still remembers And sinks within me.

The would be the brain. Damage it the right way and no more emotional hurt, no more joy, no more heartbreak over injustice.

Nope. Not the brain. Brain death or brain damage does NOT negate the soul.

Do a Bible search on the word soul. You'll rule out the brain.

The sinking feeling is not located anywhere near the head.

If I remove the prefrontal cortex of your brain, you will still be able to walk, see, eat, etc., but you will no longer love your children or care about their well being. All higher lever cognitive functions will be lost. You will feel no emotion, no love. joy, sadness, or happiness. Everything that makes you human will be irrevocably gone. Your capacity for empathy, kindness, generosity, caring, gone.

The reason for this is because these things are the result of chemical reactions and electrical stimulus in a complex series of neural interconnections developed during childhood and modified over a lifetime.

If there is a metaphysical aspect of human emotion, cognition, etc. it does no revel itself when the tissue is damaged.

All this is easily demonstrated by simply studying brain injury patients.

Just because you assume it's the brain doesn't mean we do.

I've never thought the soul was attached or assigned to an organ either.

PopsiLufsJesus -> RE: Which organ is associated with the soul? (9/9/2008 12:16:53 AM)

We are BODY, SOUL, SPIRIT...3 in 1, just like the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit...

Our soul is separate from our body. Therefore our soul cannot be directly associated with our brain.

Be wary when you assume.

I do not associate any organ of the body with the soul. Soul/Spirit are intangible, the brain is hardly intangible.

I don't know what your intent was when posting your question, but I hope your motivation was not impious. I also hope your question was answered!

The one at my church! I'm not sure what the name brand it, but when they play that organ, my soul is MOOOOOOVED, baby. [:D]

If I find out who made it, I'll let you know.

The one at the baseball stadium that they play the Calvary Charge on must be the same brand, too. It has a similar affect, and on a lot more people.

Here is my contribution: We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God , and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. II Cor. 10: 5

The Bible has alot to say about the heart, however......such as "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? "

and then, God goes on to say this: "I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve."

Now that, I find very interesting and the Bible has plenty to say on this topic. [;)]

So, although we are clearly instructed NOT to speculate, we are supposed to study and know what Scripture says so that we are not deceived.

Comprends-tu?

Probably a Hammond. At the ball stadium too.

BTW, it is spelled cavalry charge. That is horse mounted troops. Calvary is the christian name for a hill outside Jerusalem.

The Word says to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength...

Wouldn't that make the mind(brain) and the soul to different entities?
