Good morning, Barb. I wish our cooler weather had continued, but it got up near 80 in here yesterday, so I had to turn on the a/c. I have a couple of doors open this morning to let in some of the cool, fresh air, but I'll have to close them soon. It's 68 right now, and is supposed to rain today. That will leave everything sticky & damp again. That's really cool about your step-dad . . and yes, it does sound like the Holy Spirit is working on his heart. It sounds like he misses your mom tremendously. I think it's a great idea to stop by often, even tho I know that would be hard to do. I slept the night thru too! It felt so good. I cleaned the kitchen while the coffee was making, then made my way to the sewing room for a bit before Garrett got here. Wonder if I could sneak back in there while his cartoons are on . . hmmmmm. I don't have any more plans for today, so maybe I'll get to work on getting back to a regular routine -- that would be nice.

It's not raining here yet, Barb, but still overcast. I closed the house back up and let the a/c run. When it's so close like this, everything gets sticky feeling. I hate that. I do understand about your step-dad. Maybe you could call before you stop and kind of assess his condition. My dad drank, Barb, so I really do understand. In fact, Bill drank heavily the first 12 years of our marriage. It's not an easy thing to deal with either as a daughter or a wife. Garrett & I have been sewing . . yep, he actually let me get some done this morning, and while I was doing that he emptied one of my thread drawers . . . he was so funny -- he'd take the thread out, hold it close to his eye to inspect it (seemed more fascinated with the end of the spool rather than the color of thread), then he'd use both hands to lift it up & over his head, following the top of his head to the crown before dropping it behind him . . . what a silly little nut. When he had the whole drawer empty, he was going to go off to something else, so had to be 'coaxed' into picking them all back up . . . he actually did really good, tho, with a little encouragement and much cheering from me and himself Now it's time to feed him and get him ready for the bus, tho it is now coming 10 minutes later.

Thanks. The whole family is feeling "icky". Happily, Emily is making it through her work days. I worked on my e-bay business. Loaded some stuff into the store. I also napped. No home schooling on days when everyone is physically out of it.

Momma Mo, did you find a store to move into? {{{{{Barb}}}}} How nice of you to care about your step-dad like that. I'm sure he appreciates your attention. Linda, I always enjoy your stories about Garrett.

It would be good for me to be a morning person so I could get a head start on the family, but as it is, I get up before most of them anyway, just a shorter time period before the house gets hopping! Being a morning person could change Deb, it did for me. I thought I would never be one and now I am. Barb, did you say your bible study group was studying 'grief'? Could this be something that would help your stepdad? Is he open to discussions? I am praying for you to have opportunities with him to share your faith and for the Holy Spirit to work in his life. Leah, that was so cute, the description of Garrett and the sewing thread drawer. I am looking forward to seeing you tonight. Where is the revival going on for tonight? Your church or another one? I am so amazed my hubby said he didn't mind me coming. He even gave me money for gas and asked if I needed more. Hi Maggie.....was good to talk with you on MSN last night. You are a good encourager. I've been reading your blog. Amazing site! It will take me a while to read everything. Hi Dee. Dee I haven't unloaded my car yet from all my garage sale shopping. I need to do that this weekend sometime. It is going to rain all day today so I won't be doing it today and tomorrow we are going to Columbia to celebrate my son's 16th birthday. The older siblings bought tickets to a college football game and are pitching in for two rooms at a nice hotel. We plan as a family to spend the weekend in Columbia, Missouri, go out to eat, buy a cake, visit and have fun together. I am looking forward to the family time and though it was supposed to be a surprise for my son it isn't any more. His five year old nephew let the cat out of the bag so now my son knows what's going on. Guess DD talked too much in front of the little one and he didn't know any better than to share the news. Good morning! I've got to work on my daughter's wedding gown today since she will be up from VA on Sunday to do a fitting. It shouldn't take me long to get it to that point. It's nice to meet you all. I used to come often to the boards before CC joined with crosswalk, but I've been a bit busy with the kids. :P Now I have school days to myself. MWF little Douglas (who was born premature one month before his mother died of cancer) goes to 1/2 day of developmental preschool and comes home for a nap. I eat lunch with him and off he goes. T/Th I take him to the school where nine of my kids attend because they have a preschool there that my high school junior works at for an hour before school and a couple hours after. The cost is reasonable and he gets two more days of routine and instruction while I get my business up and running, do laundry and generally get caught up on things. Right now, the second week of school, I haven't been doing much sewing because of trying to dovetail our schedules so I don't forget anyone. :P I'm keeping housekeeping to a minimum of floors, bathrooms, kitchen, trash and laundry. Anything else can wait until I have more time. I will make time to post a bit during the week, but don't be surprised if you don't see me often. Thanks for the welcome!

Good Friday Morning Everyone From yesterdays thread: Leah, I sure like hearing stories of little Garrett I don't know if I would let my daycare kids play with my sewing stuff. But I've been there and done that. The little three year old, I used to watch, decided it would be fun to take my cutting wheel, and use it on my chair arm. Cut a large slice in the fabric. That was in my sewing drawer. So I decided to NEVER let any kids near my sewing stuff again. He could have really hurt himself with that wheel. And I even had the saftey latch shut. I also put up with a drinking husband. For the first 15 years of our marrage. It caused alot of problems. But all is well now. My husband was'ent a MEAN drunk tho. My step-dad is. He used to tell my mom that he was gonna put her in a nurseing home, and us girls did'ent love her, that she would die alone and unloved. He worked on her mind something awful. Mom always tried to protect us from him. At times, I find it hard to be kind to him because of what he put her through. I want to yell to him "Why did'ent you treat her nice when she was alive" I know he loved her..but I wish he could have showed her that when she was with us. Not now. So there is anger on my part. But I try to put that aside because I know he misses her and he is probally hurting for the way he treated her. Momma-mo: Praying you and your family are on the road to recovery soon. Nothing like a summer cold to put you down. Get plenty of rest. Maggie: Thank you Ginny: No my step-dad would'ent go to any Bible Study. But like you said..I could share some of what I learn with him. I could bring it into the conversation in a small way. Mabey suggest he find moms Bible, and glance at it. He sure is one you could'ent preach to tho. Tonight me and hubby get to go out to dinner with his brother and sister-in-law. They eat fish, I eat chicken. Only problem is we can't go out until 7PM. That's way to late for me to eat. I will have to order a kids size chicken dinner. To much on my tummy, will make sleeping difficult. Cody has an away game tonight that we will not go to. The bus will bring them to the school around 11PM. The game is almost two hours away. I have a full day today. Already have three daycare kids now, and three grandkids are comeing later this morning. Gonna be busy around here.

Good Friday morning, everyone! Deb, it sounds as tho you may be meeting yourself coming or going shortly . . . I can't even imagine trying to run a household with that many kids, even tho I grew up in one . . . . I do hope you make time to join us as often as you can. Ginny, I'm looking forward to our visit this afternoon & evening . . . I may do something simple like order pizza for supper . . or I may get energetic & cook. We'll see. The revival is in a tent outside, so be sure to dress appropriately. It looks like we may get rain again . . it rained last night, but we were cozy & dry under the big tent. Thanks, Maggie. I enjoy telling Garrett stories . . he's such a delightful little kid to keep -- I really do feel blessed. Last night after the revival, a friend & I went out for something to eat/drink. I'd already eaten supper, but I had a strawberry shake while she ate, and we had a really nice chat. In fact, I didn't get home until nearly 11:00 -- Bill said he was about ready to call the sheriff to go look for me . . . of all times for me to forget to take my cell phone -- and so did Debbie -- then we both just lost track of time . . . . . owell, I think he was just kidding I don't have Garrett today, so I'll be doing some more sewing. Already been to the gym & got that over with. Now I need to put some color on my hair then take a shower & get started on the sewing.

Crosspost! Thanks, Barb. As I said above, I sure do love telling those stories I'm glad things are better for you now. It's hard to go thru something like that . . hard to know what is the best thing to do, even for the kids. I really never had a choice. I knew I couldn't support the kids & I alone, not around here anyway, and certainly wasn't brave enough (or stupid enough) to move to a big city. And when he was sober he was a good father and decent husband. After he got sick with the bi-polar he had to stop drinking -- well, the whole experience scared him enough to make him compliant with the medication therapy, which prohibted alcohol. As difficult as all that was, it was such a blessing to not have him drinking, and I believe, truly believe it's what put our marriage back on track. God is good. Sounds like you have your hands full . . now see, if we were closer together, this is one time when I could be helping you -- I'd love to entertain those kiddies for a while

How many do you have? You certainly sound busy! Your little Douglas sounds like Linda's Garrett that she takes care of during the day. How old is Douglas? Wow, Barb, thanks for sharing so openly. I didn't realize you'd had trouble with your husband drinking. {{{{{{{Barb}}}}}}} Linda, how nice to have a Garrett-free day! I know there's lots you've been wanting to get done. I'm so glad that dh doesn't drink like he used to. I hated the nights he was bent over the toilet because he drank too much, or when he insisted on driving (after a near accident one time I put a firm stop to that). ICK to drunkenness!

Deb, SIXTEEN children?! WOW girl, I give you tons of credit. Wish I had time to read your blog. Mabey someday... Just have time to keep up with this thread. I have five children myself...altho four of them are grown, and moved out. My youngest is gonna be 16 years old, and he is a sophmore in high school. I also have five grandchildren ranging from 3 years down to 4 months. I watch three of them during the day, when my kids work. The other two go over by their other grandma during the day. Maggie, Yes I had an intresting few years with my hubby. He worked two jobs, and drank afterwards, and I took care of the kids. Things are sooo much sweeter now. It's great when they GROW UP After my folks divorced, my mom turned to drinking. Finished out my growing up years in a terrible enviroment. Guess that's why I dislike being near drunks Mom quit drinking when she got sick. So for the last five years of her life, she was bitter, and had to put up with a drunk. Well all the kids are down for nap-time, and the only one not sleeping is Ethan. Leave it to my grandson to be the "pill" of the day. But he is laying down quietly on the sofa watching Mr. Rogers. It is a rather hot, hazy, muggy day today. I put the CA on even. Funny...Monday I had the fireplace going and Friday I have the CA running. ONLY in Wisconsin

Deb, Cool..I LOVE quilting. Just started this last winter. Have made a twin size quilt for my son, and five baby quilts so far. Now I'm in my sewing-room working with my scrap fabric. I can get about five quilts out of all the scap fabric I have.

http://www.stoneycreekinn.com/ This is where I am staying and where I am right now. It is amazing. Maggie you would have a blast writing about your experiences here. Barb and Deb, our bed had a beautiful quilt on it as a bedspread and the shower curtain is an applique quilt that is fabulous. I wish I had a camara so I could take a picture. The shower curtain is how I want to quit. Ginny Leah, Thanks for a wonderful time Friday and the socializing. Your pastor is a good speaker and I am still thinking on it is not the 'why' but the 'who'. Think on it several times a day. I am so glad he prayed for me and I was touched by you when you stood beside me during the service and touched my shoulder. You are a very caring person Linda. Oh, last night we ate at HuHots Mongolian Restaurant that is a story in and of itself. Ginny

Hi Ginny . . . I'm glad you're having such a good time. The Inn looks and sounds beautiful. Quilts for shower curtains -- what a grand idea! Have to think about that one . . . . I wish you had a camera too! I've never eaten Mongolian food -- do you like it? I'm glad you enjoyed the service the other night. I knew you needed prayer, but felt sure you wouldn't want to go forward. That doesn't preclude a friend from praying for you at a service such as that -- or anytime . . . . I was happy to hear you went to Pastor for a chat and prayer. So, was the church service good this morning? That's pretty cool that you just happened to hear that! And really cool that a place like that has a church service. Don't see that much anymore in public placed. BTW, I take it the ballgame didn't get rained out yesterday? You missed a big storm here . . . the dregs of Hurricane Ike. The worst hit around 5:00 a.m. . . . knocked out our power which was out until about 1:30. We had so much rain our road was flooded in the low spot right in front of our yard, so I couldn't get out to go to church, even if I could have gotten ready. But at least it hadn't done any real damage in our yard. It stopped raining between 8:30 & 10:00 -- I'd fallen back to sleep sitting in the recliner reading my Bible, so was unsure just when. The water went down, but left the road in a real mess. Since we still had no power, we went to town to eat then to Wal-Mart to buy some water & bread, etc. By the time we got home, we once again had power . . but at least we're stocked up on stuff now

Wow! We noticed it had rained in our absence and our clocks were all messed up so figured out the power was off. I was able to participate in a great praise and worship time this morning but only got a bit of the message time before my daughter's boyfriend came and got me saying everyone was leaving. The part I got was great though. The service today was going to be on being mistreated whether at work, at home or anywhere else and he had started it with scripture on loving one another,. Before he started this message he went over how they have been having sermons on how the mind works and how as Christians we are to think. And gave us Philippians where it says whatsoever is true think on this, whatsoever is pure, noble, etc. After we left the hotel, we went to Red Lobster and had a feast. All 12 of us at one table arrangement. It was a good time. Then we went to the mall. Dave and I slept in the van for 2 hours then I got up and went inside the mall to a Barnes and Noble store. I bought a book by JD. Jakes on 'Ten Commandments on Living in a Hostile Environment'. I have been reading it and it is great. Ginny
