I cut it out totally and not only did my heartburn and digestive issues go, but also my sinus problems. I never was one for dairy, except good cheese, but I avoid it as much as possible, now. Here's some reading. And this site is quite comprehensive. And one more.

I can eat food with milk in it, but to drink a glass of milk... well, first off I think it tastes nasty but it also leaves a coating in my throat and I have these coughing spells that last for 20-30 minutes. Every other variation of dairy is ok in moderation. I know some people develop allergies over the years - I always thought it was due to what we keep putting into our food that gets passed onto us.

ORIGINAL: uncabeeil Can't eat McD's any more. Used to love it. Same for BK, although I stopped eating there when they stopped actually flame broiling them and started painting on stripes and adding smoke flavoring. I'm not a fan of BK either, but they still flame broil them and the stripes are real. I know this for 100% fact. Maybe where you are, but here in Jersey I've seen them take the burgers out of the freezer and put them in the microwave. Maybe they're actually flame broiled in some big factory somewhere and then shipped, but there's no grilling going on in the BK's by me.

I BK Around here, they beat the pants off McD's, Wendy's and Hardees. I don't care if they freeze dry, deep fry or fire fry the burgers...they taste good. Some variations may occur at individual locations I guess.

BK burgers get "flame-broiled" on a conveyor belt, that circulates under a flame. It's the bars on the belt that give it the stripes. At least that's how they did it many moons ago, when I toured one. Looks like they're looking to change it: http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/12/news/companies/pluggedin_boyle_burgerking.fortune/index.htm I don't eat fast "food," so I have no idea which one has the best burger these days.

I just think about what all goes into fast food meat (either physically in the meat, or otherwise, such as slaughterhouses and how the animals are raised) and it makes it pretty easy to drive on by. I used to eat at a local joint called What-A-Burger. They had gooood peanut butter milkshakes. And crinkle cut fries, which are my fave.

I read Diet For A New America and became an instant vegetarian for many many years in the 80's. One more reason why ignorance is bliss and I had no idea there was a What-A-Burger near you...I love them and have never seen one anywhere around here...good to know! krinkle cut is the best way to go for sure...

My oldest is the same way. He drinks Lactaid milk, but he eats cheese, yogurt and foods made with a little real milk OK.

I like rice milk now when I have a hankering for some cereal. My husband, otoh can't have anything with dairy even though he loves it...and sometimes indulges with pizza, but then he pays for it later.

Rice milk and almond milk are awesome! Why, I just used some rice milk the other week, to make some cream of broccoli soup.

I've never cooked with rice milk...didn't even think about it. Does it change when heated? We love clam chowder, but with all the milk, we never get to have it, so I wonder if rice milk would taste similar...hmmmm

I haven't really "cooked" with it a lot, but what I have done (usually baking or soups), I've had no problems with it. Oooh, and if you have a blender or food processor or hand-held thingie, you can pulse up cauliflower and it makes a great rice substitute.

I know we did smashed up cauliflower as a mashed tater substitute once and it was pretty good so that might be a good idea, too.

I know you can buy it from Marketday like that, but it is way overpriced and I think they drown it in butter, but I can't remember that part. I love cauliflower.

It was the whole Atkins thing and I can't remember if it was cream cheese or what we mixed it with. It was really good though.

After drinking coffee from when I was about 14 or 15 till I was early 40's, I gave it up. Not because I wanted to, but because I gave up milk, and didn't like it black or with soya milk in (plain or vanilla). I then told myself it would be good to come off caffeine. I had a horrible 4 day withdrawal, but afterwards started to feel better. But 5 years down the line, I still miss coffee. It's not the caffeine - I get that still from the odd Diet Coke. I just miss a good cup of coffee. The smell, the taste, mmmmmm. Ah well.
