Louisvilleslugger -> Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 12:32:33 PM)

Was anybody else as surprised as I was when Singing News asked "Would You Be Attending the NQC This Year" it was like 23 % yes and 77% No

Dinana -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 12:38:21 PM)

I wasn't surprised. I'm really interested to see if the attendance figures this year are up due to changes and additions to the schedule. I feel very fortunate to be able to attend - even if I'm just going for 3 days. This wouldn't have worked for me when I was raising kids.

L5FanLady -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 1:13:04 PM)

I wasn't suprised at the results. Not everybody can go. Imagine how busy it would be if everybody DID go! It would be [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif] but yet [sm=dance.gif]!

I, of course, said no.

Wish I could have said YES![&o] Finances, ya know....

frog43 -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 1:46:47 PM)

That seems to be around the same percentage they get each year in the poll. Kids in school, distance, cost, and not being able to get off work are the main reasons more people don't attend.

BBfan -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 1:47:12 PM)

I said no because it doesn't work with having kids in school. Okay...I'm going to get on my soapbox here so pardon the interruption...

If they want to attract the younger demographic then they need to schedule this where those of us with families can attend. I'm not nor will the school system allow me to take my child out of school a couple weeks after school starts for a whole week. I don't home school. Nor do I have someone to come to my house and babysit my children for a week while I attend NQC. I hope to be able to work something out next year for part of the week as a belated 25th anniversary present from my husband but I will have one starting middle school and one starting kindergarten a few weeks before. Okay...off the soapbox![;)]

Does anyone know if Clark or the NQC board has addressed the issue of holding the convention during the school year? I'm curious if there has ever been an official response.

I was surprised that it was that high a percentage. Of course it's not a scientific poll.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/4/2008 4:43:43 PM)

I agree with what BBfan has said...Im 19 years old and Im starting my 2nd year of college and there is no way that I can miss a whole week of classes. I think we should get Mr. Beasley's attention and mention it to him

I bet if you had a plateful in front of you, you would delete them real fast.[;)]

Yeah, with school and with the economy down, I wasn't particularly surprised.

mdhodge -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/5/2008 11:53:00 AM)

I was not surprised by the number either. There have been surveys done in the past asking about moving the date to the summer months, but I have not heard whether that would be done or not. I agree that the summer months would allow more families to attend, but the only question I have with that is the cost of the trip. If you have never been before to NQC, it is not a cheap trip. With tickets costing almost $30/each per night, parking $5/night, hotels costing at least $60-$70/night, plus the cost of food - this is not a cheap trip. I travel with my mother and just the cost for me is something I have to plan for all year long. And this doesn't include the all of the extras that you want to buy: cd's, dvd's, souvenirs, etc.

I don't have a high heat tolerance. I'd be pretty miserable if I tried to couple the crazy schedule with summer heat.[&:][&:][&:]

AbigailPaasch -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/5/2008 2:32:41 PM)

I wish I could go, but there is no way that I could because of school, gas prices, I wouldn't have a ride to get there, and most of all, my parents permission.[:(]

MattPaasch -> RE: Singing News Poll (9/5/2008 11:11:44 PM)

For me... it's finances and the fact I have to young kids who would drive me nuts just because I'd be dragging them from concert to concert.

I'm going to try my best in a few more years, when they get a little older!
