Davemiller, you rock!

And Jhud, just because I'm rich and I like toys, how do you know what I give back? I probably donate five times your annual income to charity each year. But they're the charity of MY choice, not what someone else tells me that THEY think will make THEIR god happy.

I think about other's interests sometimes. I just think that half the problem with the world today is this: too many people think about other people's interests too much.

Trust me, I have a ton of friends who are doctors, nurses, and yes, soldiers (I served for six years myself), and they feel like I do. Nobody becomes a colorectal surgeon with the primary purpose of helping your diseased rectum. Rather, he knows that he can haul down 700 large each year and still have lots of time off for golf.

While I appreciate your service, and you claims of giving, despite having no idea what my 'annual income' is, that doesn't excuse selfishly ignoring the impact of government policies, or thinking it's all about your 'toys' and having fun. You came onto this forum claiming you wanted to talk about God and faith - well God has a few things to say about

1. Anti-murder. I wouldn't vote for an anti-abortion person who wants to march all blond people off to death camps any more than I would vote for a pro-choice person.
2. Leave my religion alone. Leave everybody else's religion alone too, unless they feel like they need to kill people to practice it or something.
3. National Security. This includes reducing our dependence on foreign oil so we're not funding the very people who want to kill us, while we're at it. Plus it should help the environment to use less fossil fuel and more of our lovely wind, hydroelectric, and solar energy. This also includes security of the private citizen from the government. I don't want you taking or blowing up my stuff or killing me any more than I want a terrorist to do so.
4. Lower taxes. Easiest way is to make a new law requiring each piece of legislation to only deal with one topic, so people stop attaching pork for politician's pet bridges to bills that are supposed to be about taking care of our military. Requiring them to be under 1,000 words long would probably also help. The entire Bill of Rights is 463 words long. The latest federal directive regulating the price of cabbage is 26,911 words long.
5. The government demonstrably sucks at running social programs, whether it's the disaster that is our public schools, or their desire to control my health care. Don't touch me, don't touch my kids. Let me have options. Go fix a road or something. I can suggest a few that need it.
6. Immigration. Give everybody who isn't a criminal a worker permit, keep track of them, and they're not eligible for welfare, nor are any kids they have here auto-citizens. Kick out everyone who IS a criminal, and keep them out.
7. The right to keep and bear arms, for when the government fails on the aforementioned.
