I betcha some Christian who might post here say that, "This music is not Christian and you will go to hell if you listen to it."

I'm seeing it coming in this thread....

But maybe you can turn him on to Avalon or even the 2nd Chapter of Acts. That was a group back in the day who had awesome harmonies. And for the Pandora thingy, I believe and correct me if I wrong, Pandora seized operations this month.

Q: What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?

A: A drummer or a bass guitarist.

--------
Q: Why do bands have bass guitarists?

A: To translate for the drummer.

-------
Did you hear about the bass player who locked his keys in the car?

He had to break a window to get the drummer out!

-------
Q: Why are most band intermissions limited to 20 minutes?

A: So they don't have to retrain the drummer and bass guitarist.

Is this from a book? Or have you taken up a second job as a stand-up comedian? Remember, Jimbo, the title of this thread is "Please Don't Laugh"!

As far as musicans, I agree with Gayle on Avalon. Also, been thinking the past couple of days of other artists/musicians who are similar to ABBA also:

The Captain and Tennile
Tony Orlando and Dawn
Carol King

And maybe these groups too:

Elton John
Meat Loaf

Christian Artists:

First Call
Amy Grant

Mike, how do you get from the disco bubble gum pop of Abba to Elton John and Meat Loaf? Other than the fact that they recorded around the same time they have nothing in common. And I can't remember the last time I saw anybody dancing to Amy Grant.

Hi Bill, I am not going by disco. ABBA is not disco, but rather by melodies instead. Both Meat Loaf and Elton John have melody in their songwriting. (ok, Jim Steinem for Meat Loaf.)

Another group in the maybe catagory would be The Eagles also.

And tone deaf people think they can sing on key.

Sorry, I've just had bad experiences with bass guitarists that insist on setting the volume to max and, thus, making singing the bass voice line completely pointless. In those churches, we only had soprano, alto, tenor, and bass-guitarists.

I've had some of the situation. Some bass players stand too close to their amp and then complain that they can't hear themselves. Sometimes just getting them to move a few feet away and/or showing them that you can play their part at a much lower sound level helps them see the light.

As to the Abba thing, wow! does your son know his mother is online telling everybody he likes that stuff? I'd put him in UFO/Montrose/Sabbath threrapy and hope he comes out of it.

Hehe! Also if your kid ever confesses to liking Abba, wants to play the keytar, or thinks black dress socks look cool with shorts, don't announce it to the world. He'll probably grow out of it.

FYI, ABBA was very popular in the rest of the world, and the movie Mama Mia! is doing quite well also.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Not everybody likes King Crimson and Yes, just like some people prefer white zinfandel to real wine. At my house, however, when that Momma Mia ****olla comes on the TV, my kids walk away with that look that says "what's wrong with this world".

Having grown up in the 70s, I can state without question that it's possible to have plenty of ABBA, King Crimson and Yes in your album and/or CD collection. Being a prog fan dosen't necessarily exclude you from enjoying fine pop music. Can't we all just get along? (opps, wrong era)

I heard Casey Kasem's American Top 40, The Seventies last night. They featured this week in 1972. Now what was in the Top 10?

  • Rock & Roll (Part 2)-Gary Glitter
  • Hold Your Head Up-Argent
  • The Carpenters
  • Brandy You're A Fine Girl-Looking Glass
  • Alone Again (Naturally)-Gilbert O'Sullivan

Hehe! Yes, except at my house where, if you mention Yes and Abba in the same sentence, you'll be riduculed to a slow and painful death.

Please oh please do not get him hooked on Meat Loaf. That man needs to go away. If we get another generation of kids into Meat Loaf, we could wind up being subject to Bat Out of Hell 12.

Even though that is a distinct possibility, I got a kick out of the cell phone commercial Meat Loaf and his family did a little while back.

I have two boys who like ABBA. My wife and I like ABBA. I am also a big Yes fan (saw them twice live). My boys though prefer the likes of Showbread, Linkin Park, P.O.D., and other Guitar Hero groups. That game has introduced my children to some of the great hard rock songs of yesteryear.

I haven't actually heard a lot of ABBA, however I like Erasures covers of their songs and if you follow that line then there are quite a few good christian synth pop bands.

I forget if anybody mentioned Zoegirl. Rachel Lampa is another possibility. And there was another teenager around the same time as Lampa, but I can't remember her name. All three of the above would fit into the Abba style. Even some early Jaci Velasquez.
