Change? What does it really mean?

We are a free and prosperous nation. Is that going to be changed?

Our military is strong enough to hold the ambitions of China, Russia and rogue nations at bay. Is that going to be changed.

Our airways are free to broadcast differing political viewpoints. Is that going to be changed?

Change can go for us and change can go against us. And, the more charasmatic the leader, the more likely the people can be fooled about the coming 'changes'. The people of Germany and Italy found that out to their sorrow.

I can't believe you even admit you think these are key qualifiers for a president.
Why not nominate Geroge Clooney, or Jimmy Kimmel? unbelievable.

Oh my goodness, don't give them any ideas! But, frankly, I'd take Jimmy Kimmel over Clooney any day! I'd take Kermit the Frog over George Clooney!

If Obama wins change will mean bigger government.

When McCain wins it will mean reform government.

Reform GOOD....Bigger BAD

If Bush is so wonderful, then why is John McCain making "Change" a major theme of his campaign?

Change from what?

Eight years of a Republican President and a Republican run congress for 6/8 years?

Obama is the one that is.
McCain is one that is a Republican like Bush is - but they are two different people.

Is English your second language? "If you care to go there" indicates that I was including that as a largely inconsequential throw-away, but that others might think more of it. I prefer to talk about policy, not personality.

I guess I could riff on it for a second as you seem to think it's worthwhile. The president is something akin to the face and voice of America to the rest of the world. The way he presents himself, the way he carries himself, actually matters to a certain degree in terms of foreign perceptions of America, and Americans.

Bush has been a disaster on the image front. given Obama's recent reception on his foreign tour, I've got a lot of confidence that he'll be a lot better.

Well now you have me double worried that a person like you that doesn't get slang, and thinks image for a president is so important for him and votes for him because he is cool. Give me a college dweeb break.

"go there" means to talk about it, what urban slang dictionary you using??

And I care less about Bush's image than the safety the U.S. has endured without terrorist attacks (like the ones that were heavily predicted) that ungrateful people (names witheld) can't appreciate because they are so impressed with the way Obama shoots hoops on network news shows. duuuuuuuuuude obama rocks duuuuuuuuuuude MTV rock the vote duuuuuude!

Maybe you were not listening to John McCain's acceptance speech.

Excerpts:

" And let me just offer an advance warning to the old, big-spending, do-nothing, me first, country second crowd: Change is coming."

"And when we tell you we're going to change Washington and stop leaving our country's problems for some unluckier generation to fix, you can count on it."

[now which Presidents have run the highest deficits...hint, the current one leads the pack]

"I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us.

We lost -- we lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption. We lost their trust when rather than reform government, both parties made it bigger."

Have you been listening to McCain? Do you not know that he's been bucking people in his own party? Just because he's a Republican and friends with Bush doesn't mean he agrees with everything. Don't you have affiliations with people that you "agree to disagree" with?

Yes. I watched the entire thing.
Hes not making change a major theme of his campaign just because of one speech. lol
I think you are getting him confused with Obama. There is absolutely NO comparison there. Thank God.

Right....only the biggest speech of his campaign to date...I guess we'll see if he continues the theme into the campaign.

For his sake, I hope he doesn't because no one is going to buy it.

one day after the convention:

“Change is coming, change is coming, and with her there, we will restore our strength and the prosperity of this great nation.”

link

[note to John: you're not making any friends on Pennsylvania Avenue]

This is pretty funny. After six months of Republicans mocking Mr Change Obama, John McCain is now attempting to take the title.

Have you been paying attention to McCain? He has been desperately attempting to kiss and make-up with essentially everyone in his own party for the past four years. Do you remember the Falwell flip-flop? He culled the media darling "maverick" image until he realized he needed all those Republicans he'd been trashing.

I think you have it backwards, all those republicans need him now, the alternative is unimaginable for them.

Change is a crock. We won't see significant change from either party. They all lie to get our votes.

Democrats lied to get control of congress-we haven't seen the change yet.

Republicans lied us into a war. We won't see a major change in that either.

Change is something the people want-not the politicians unless it personally benefits them in some way.

Change only means the person as president. No radical change will ever occur.

To please the American people just can't happen-we all want something different. We aren't even unified to agree on what those priorities of change are.

The politicians stopped listening to us a long time ago. If they had of listened to the voice of the people we wouldn't have a deficit, we wouldn't be at a no win war and terrorist wouldn't have attacked.

The American dream would still be alive and we wouldn't be sitting here discussing whether or not this should be in English or Spanish just to appeal to our illegal aliens. Because we all know they have rights here too

I'll accept that excellent point (it goes both ways, really) but your grasp of grammar and slang is still abysmal.

Sure I do, but as huang pointed out, it's not the party affiliation that worries me; it's McCain's words and actions. Falling back to standard right-wing talking points and signing on Palin as his VP hasn't convinced me that the policies are going to change much.
