My favorite resaurant with healthy food is Subway, but I never eat the healthy subs, I eat the ones with all the salami and stuff on it lol.

Me too...Subways does not taste good to me for some reason. The only ones that taste good are the ones that are unhealthy, hehe.

Whoever said the Olive Garden is healthy needs to look up the nutritional info there. They are nowhere near healthy.

No? The salad isn't?...Their salad is yummy.

Whole Foods has only whole wheat bread you also said? We don't have a Whole Foods here..closest one is about 2 hours I think.

...I've noticed that some Chinese restaurants offer a "Healthy Choice" selectoin....like mixed veggies with sauce that are steamed instead of stir fry. It's not bad and affordable. Of course, you get a lot of rice with it, which people have said is no good.

Whole Foods sells organic wheat bread without high fructose corn syrup, as do some other health food stores.

The whole wheat bread in the grocery store with the enriched flour and no fiber is only slightly better nutrionally than white bread.

Um, I just looked at the whole wheat bread I bought and it has NO high fructose corn syrup, and it has 3 grams of fiber.

There's a local bakery that bakes breads using heirloom organic wheat and grains. That's the only one I'll buy. Other than that, I make my own. But I only eat bread maybe once every three or four months.

When dining out, I find it's just easier to avoid it altogether. I don't miss it at all.

What I really hate is all of the refined sugar that's in EVERYTHING when dining out. That's harder to avoid. It's in a lot of sauces served in restaurants. And then there's MSG......

I got a question. What does your diet consist of if you don't eat bread a lot? How do you get your whole grains?

I don't need a lot of whole grains. Nobody does. The water soluble fiber they provide is readily available in fruits and vegetables. Grains are pro-inflammatory and it's just not worth the issues they can cause.

I do, on occasion, have organic brown basmati rice (I've maybe had it twice this year) or a bread made with organic whole grains--maybe 3 or 4 times since the first of the year. I eat lean meat (especially chicken and buffalo), fruits, vegetables, nuts, raw dairy products (not low fat)--the closer the food is to the way God created it, the better.

Mona . . .

I've been thinking about PMing you for quite a while now, but I also know how very busy you are.

I would love to be able to leisurely chat with you and exchange ideas about healthy food.

I'm very intrigued with what I have been reading in your posts regarding no grains. In fact, so intrigued, that for the past 2 weeks I have had no grains for 13 of the 14 days.

Interestingly enough, the small amount of grains I had were a couple of days ago, and I still have swelling from it.

Would you be interested in participating in a thread discussing "no grains" as part of a healthy eating lifestyle. You could start it, or I will; your choice.

To the OP: I realize that this post is off-topic. Please forgive me for that. I saw Mona in here and wanted to grab the opportunity.

Blessings,
Sharon-Marie

I don't count on restaurants to serve healthy food, though I am mindful of what I order. These days, I'd much rather eat grilled seafood with vegetables than pasta or steak & potato. Even with the seafood, you've got to be careful - some dishes (particularly white fish) are served drowning in butter. Tuna steaks are amazing, but then there's the mercury issues... And some (all?) shellfish have a TON of cholesterol. Good thing shrimp is so expensive - keeps me from stuffing myself with it.

I love sushi, but don't eat it often because of the white rice. If they could just leave that part off, I'd be nutritionally happy.

Sashimi is generally served on top of the rice, rather than rolled in it, so you could just eat the fish.
