Cynthia, sorry for your loss. Also praying for a safe trip there and home.

It is hard to believe that it is "FALL"... it is like 91 here and humid! Boy do I miss the cooler weather "up north"! (Correction - it is 92 degrees at 6:30pm! Yuck!)

My son has a tank with a red-eared slider turtle and some feeder fish. (Before we left for vacation, I bought the turtle a bunch of feeder fish and an algae eater. We bought a pretty big one, as the girl at the store told me turtle would probably eat the smaller ones. We got a "plecko" that was about 4 inches long. When we returned home, there was a skull floating in the tank! Oops!) We had a "plecko" (short version of their big long name that I cannot pronounce). It got too big and we took it back to the store so they could find a new home for him. Guess this one was not big enough!

A couple of weeks ago, my son was given 2 geckos, complete with a wonderful tank and all the stuff you would ever need (except food - live crickets!). All for free. It is pretty cool.

It is amazing to be the Mom of a son. I probably never would have believed that I would one day be hand-feeding a turtle and watching a lizard eat a cricket alive! Too funny! We caught a praying mantis today and son fed it a live cricket... the carnage at our house is crazy!

School starts tomorrow!!

BTW (sorry so long!) hubby and I had a great weekend together, and I think I will be heading back up there next weekend if not sooner.

Hi Mel - nice to meet you!!

Sounds like my house, Melissa, although it's my daughter who has the snakes. But yeah, we have the turtle and the mantis and a couple of toads and whatever else hops across someone's path.

I won't do spiders or snakes (like the song! ). I have too many snake nightmares... ewww!!!

We also have 2 dogs and 2 cats! It's kinda like the ark - just need one more turtle (don't tell son that! ) and we would have pairs of all our pets!

Oh, Melissa you are a brave person. I can't have snakes and lizards in the house. The rubber kind are fine, but not real.

We're home with our fish. We wound up having to get a heater, a new filter wheel, water conditioner, and a net. Dh was only expecting to spend maybe $20 and wound up spending twice as much. Oh Well, we have what we need and we have some fish.

Welcome Mel!

(((Cynthia))) I'm sorry for your loss. Praying for a safe trip to New York.

My husband is talking about a pizza for dinner so my son says, "I want an Italian Pizza!". Dh informed him that pizza IS Italian. I don't think my son was listening and I'm sure it'll come up again.

Someday I would love to do a saltwater aquarium, but am not at a time and place for it right now. I always wanted to decorate a family room all nautical, and then have a fish tank in it.

I would love to have a saltwater aquarium if someone else would do it. I like lookin' at 'em, but I hate taking care of them.

(((Cynthia)))

I so want a fish tank! Ds1's snake used to live on the kitchen counter before she outgrew that tank. The counter looks so barren now!

Yah, the snake... Niumi is a 4ft ball python. There for a while we were raising mice for her. Now, she's graduated to rats but I am NOT raising rats!

Ds1 and ds3 raced today. They did a small 5K put on by the cross country boosters. Both did very well! At the finish the cross country coach asked if ds3 was heading to their school. Nope. Home schooled! She was crushed. Ds3 had a great race, with an awsome kick at the finish!

My goodness Cindy, how do you manage to take care of all those animals, work, and homeschool? You have more energy than anyone I know!

Cindy is pretty amazing.

I lived with her DD's snake for a month, only because it never escaped. If it had, either it or I woulda been in a UPS box on the way to PA ASAP!

Saltwater aquariums are like boats. A hole in the water into which you throw money...only without the hole. My mom tried for years and all she ended up with was a pretty glass box and a lot of money flushed down the tube. They are very touchy.

I did not intend to be gone all day! But my friend said it was easier to make jam with me keeping her company than it ever has been, and she beat her personal jam-making record (she made six batches), and Nate was having all sorts of fun, so we stayed longer than intended. By the time we left, it was time to grab a couple steaks and head to the family BBQ.

Nate has to work tomorrow. I got most of the school semester planned out and just need to make some copies, so I will do that while he's at work. Then I have an interview at 2.

Yes, she does. Cindy do you have a cleaning person or anything? Or do your kids pitch in a lot? I remember a while back you saying your husband didn't pitch in much . I'm sorry about that. If a mom is getting to be a stay at home mom, I don't totally judge the dad for not pitching in, but if mum and dad are both working, I think dad should jolly well be pitching in at home just as much as mom.

Can we not make this a hubby bashing session though? That really bothers me. None of us have perfect husbands, I'm quite sure, nor are we ourselves perfect.

I had to laugh when I read that, Donna. I definitely don't have a perfect husband.

And I am normally very against hubby-bashing. I did not think we were, though. What we said is true, and only goes to show how amazing Cindy is.

I got chewed on by people for not eating dessert again tonight. Then I realized why. They apparently felt all the brownies and ice cream needed to be finished off and I wasn't doing my part.

The thing was, my friend had given me a spoonfull of the first 4 jams out of the pot this afternoon and frankly, a brownie would have put me over the edge into unhappy-tummy land! They looked delicious...I just really didn't want one and wasn't hungry.

I'm sorry Donna, I really wasn't trying to go in that direction..honestly, I don't like husband bashing either (though it may appear otherwise upthread), but when I hear about someone in a situation like Cindy's I honestly worry that someone like her will end up getting ill from all the overload. Between the fact that my mom and I take care of my disabled sister, we do a lot for the church with my dad being the pastor, and my dad travels out of town a lot for the denomination, and my mom getting breast cancer, and the fact our house is fairly large, my mom told my dad that it was ABSOLUTELY necessary for us to get a cleaning lady, and he immediately agreed, so we have one now. However, she just comes once a week for 4 hours, so my mom just has her do whatever area or chore (could be ironing, or whatever) is most crucial. So, it's not like the entire house gets cleaned by her every week. But my mom really likes this lady because she will do whatever is needed. She had tried Merry Maids, but didn't like them, because they only have a set list of things they will do. We do also have a yard guy.

But you have a point. Jesus loves us in spite of our selves, with no goodness or merit of our own, and we are to love others likewise. Thanks for the reminder.

There are 8 people in our household, so if everyone does just a few chores per day the house stays reasonable. Note that I did not say perfect. Some days it's a total disaster, but then I crack a few whips and make a few death threats, and it gets cleaned up. So no, I don't have a cleaning lady.

I do my best to resist husband bashing. Sometimes I am not successful. Our relationship is very unbalanced, though, and I struggle a lot when I hear other women going on and on about how wonderful their husbands are. Not that I don't want to hear it and rejoice with them, but I can go have a good cry later and no one knows but me and God. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

So, on a brighter(?) note, we picked up 11 more counties on our poison line today, officially giving us 1/3 of the state. The amount of sheer craziness has increased proportionally.

It has been more than an adventure to be sure and at times very isolating, due to behaviors we could not really go to any public place until about Oct/Nov of last year...things got exceedingly better with the finalization and then all the social workers, case managers, etc.. disappered, but we still dealt with horrible rages, self hurting behaviors, hurting others, property damage, etc...

however once we found out that ds age 7 had high functioning autisim and sensory integration dysfuction complicated by PTSD and found the right therapies and discovered that ds age 5 had RAD and PTSD and found the right therapies, and continued to be very structured and consistent, we saw the walls come tumbling down and then healing and progress beyond our wildest expectations...

i have to say that now we are all doing well, not that we don't have challenges to be sure but we see trust from our boys and geniune joy and love towards us, each other, as well as towards themselves...and dh and i well we now have lots of us time...

i thought of you often and many times wanted to call, but i was more often than not completely exhausted by the time the boys were down. and i really missed posting here, i just often never knew what to say because for a long time it seemed that nothing worked and nothing got through (if that makes sense).
