I haven't read through all the posts so I don't know if someone already brought this up.

I'm just laughing today because I knew the media would be all over Palin, but this story just cracked me up!

Does anyone else feel that Palin's hubby should speak up at all? Do you feel it would help her or hinder her?

I think he should speak as much as the spouse of Biden. What's her name again?

Palin Power: Fresh Face Now More Popular Than Obama, McCain

Well we know Americas attention span is about 2 seconds long.

And it isnt a fresh face, Tina Fey was popular during the Primaries.

Dh and I were talking about the "issues" surrounding her about not being there for her family and we were wondering if her hubby spoke up on how he felt about it would that ease the minds of those who disagree with her postition. Someone here said that her was a SAHD and I think it would be good to here how he deals with life.

I love this article about Palin in the British Times online - Gerard Baker is rapidly becoming one of my favortie columnists. An excerpt:

The best line I heard about Sarah Palin during the frenzied orgy of chauvinist condescension and gutter-crawling journalistic intrusion that greeted her nomination for vice-president a week ago came from a correspondent who knows a thing or two about Alaska.

“What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?”

“One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

“The other kills her own food.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now we know, thanks to her triumphant debut at the Republican convention on Wednesday, that Mrs Palin not only slaughters her prey. She impales its head on a stick and parades it around for her followers to jeer at. For half an hour she eviscerated Mr Obama in that hall and did it all without dropping her sweet schoolmarm smile, as if she were handing out chocolates at the end of a history lesson.

She will probably attempt to switch countries...Today, U.S., tomorrow, Britain, next year, Sweden.

Clearly, she's unreliable.

Didn't I read that she wanted Alaska to secede? Then she could have her own country.

Yeah, who knows, she might send her kids to school in Indonesia - or worse yet, Hawaii.

A columnist for a San Fran rag today complained that her background on "minorities" is a blank slate other than a short congratulatory speech to the African-American woman who defeated her in the Miss Alaska competition, so we don't know how to judge her on minority issues. Nevermind, of course, the fact that she's in a bi-racial marriage. We've already found out from the NOW people that an anti-abortion woman isn't a "real" woman, and apparently, the Inuit aren't real minorities, either.

Or just annex Mexico. That would solve that pesky little immigration problem.

For the sake of the young woman and the unborn baby, I truly hope everyone honors the request for privacy of the family.

Putting one's unmarried seventeen-year-old pregnant daughter onstage at the national convention is not consistent with a desire for 'privacy'.

Did they come up onstage? I missed that part. I thought they sat in the VIP section, which wasn't on stage.

quote:

Neither is publicly bringing her unmarried boyfriend to the convention city.

The Palins can stop trying to have it both ways.

His future MIL was being nominated as the VP candidate. Why WOULDN'T he go if he had the opportunity? If he had stayed in Alaska, the media would've blasted him for hiding out or not supporting his fiancee.

Let's face it - they're in a no-win situation. They'll be blasted no matter what they do.

Yeah, better all around in the first place if the Palin family had spent less time with politics and more time raising their daughter right.

whoooaaaaaa, judgement pours down like rain on the Palins.

And I guess instead of up on stage, a closet somewhere would have been more suitable for her daughter? I'm just trying to extrapolate from your ...ahem... notion.

Yeah, I guess instead of treating her with love and grace, they ought to be shunning her entirely. That's the Christian way...

MODERATOR'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE

I've deleted an inflammatory posts and several posts that it spurred and that were all off topic.

The topic is not the secession of states nor the treatment of native peoples. It is Sarah Palin.

Thanks!

I think he's fine just the way he is and he's comfortable with it. Don't think it will hurt her at all.

Actually Todd Palin is NOT Inuit- he is not enrolled in any Inuit tribe and does not have any cultural affiliation with the Inuit. He DOES have Inuit ancestry from a couple of generations back. That makes him a white guy with Native Alaskan ancestry, not a Native Alaskan. So no, Sarah Palin is not in a bi-racial marriage.

Native Alaskans have a differrent relationship with the Federal Gov't than do Native Americans in the Lower 48, and for the most part do not have treaties with the US Gov't and about half do not receive monies from the US gov't. They DO have treaties with the state gov't of Alaska and do receive monies and services from the state for healtcare, education, and housing, and some economic development. The Native Alskan Corporations were formed for Native Alaskan groups to develop and wield power for self-determination and economic growth independent of any gov't entity. However, not all Native Alaksan groups are members of the umbrella Corporation and some groups, being rather small in number and in very remote places with no roads or supportive infrastructure, are very dependent upon the state for help. Gov Palin has cut state funding, which was minimal to start with, to many Native Alaskan groups. The Yupi'ik, the people Todd Palin claims decent from, have had theirs cut by 75% in the 2 yrs since Palin took office. They have lost a good portion of their essential services because they are a state, not a federally-recognized Native Alaskan tribe, and do not receive help from the Federal Gov't, and do not have the wherewithal for economic development to improve their situation. The income and health status of the community is reportedly abysmal. Infant and maternal mortality are up, teen and adult suicides have increased, and life expectancy is dropping.

It is no wonder that the GOP has not tried to play up Mr. Palin's Native ancestry, nor sought to interview any Native Alaskans about Gov. Palin or her husband. If the Dem's wanted to go after the Palins, that would be the way to do it.

PHS, are those actual cuts (last year I gave you ten dollars but this year I am only giving you two) or rate cuts (Two years ago I gave you 8 dollars, last year I gave you 10, this year I am giving you 10.20)?
