Never. In 38 years. If hubby wants some special time together in the morning, explain he'll need to get to bed (so YOU can sleep) earlier at night and then you can set the clock for a bit earlier ....... This will pass. Three weeks is still 'honeymoon'.

We tend to not lock the bathroom door. I think the only time I ever lock the door is if I'm having a "mommy bath" (nice hot bubble bath after a long day ... and I don't want the kids coming in every 10 seconds shouting 'mommy mommy mommy') Same thing with dh -- only if he specifically wants a bath without kids barging in will he lock the door.

Our door is never locked because we do not have one. When we first started living together we would ask if someone was in the bathroom before entering, but now that it has been two years, we do not say a word just come in. My kids have no problem entering the bathroom while we are in there either. If I want some alone time in the bathroom to shave my legs or just a few minutes, I have to announce it to everyone before I go in there. Then hubby has to reinforce it.

My husband and I both lock the door only when we want privacy. The rest of the time it's unlocked or open.

generally, we don't lock the doors, but they are shut and we all knock first and wait for an answer before opening the door. I grew up with a mother who never knocked, always walked in on us, and never bothered to shut the door. One time, I was needing privacy and she came in, and then left and left the door open and my stepfather was in the livingroom and could have had an easy view. I yelled, "Hey, could you please shut the door?!?!?!" and she said, "Oh, It's just _______!" Uh hello, I was in my 20's and this guy isn't my father. My mother just came from a family that had a bit more of an "open door" policy. Respecting privacy was just something that just didn't happen, and was normal to her. I didn't care for it, and decided that I was always going to knock and wait for an answer. My kids and my husband know that I won't be barging in on them, and I know they won't barge in on me.

That's funny because this thread made me go to look and we don't have locks either. They are fancy old fashioned knobs that look like we do, but we don't. As I said above, I rarely even close the door but if the door is closed we knock. My husband grew up in a strange home where privacy was a bad word. His mother still believes to this day that families shouldn't ever have any secrets so they don't need privacy of any kind. (That is whole 'nother thread.) She would pop in on him while he was going to the bathroom trying to catch him doing something. It really freaked him out, of course. I always try to respect his privacy even more so because of this but with me, according him, he doesn't really need any. Karen

It's funny you should bring this up. I always locked the bathroom door (for the same reasons that you mentioned) but we recently moved into a house where there is no bathroom door on the master bedroom/bathroom. Now I go in the hall bathroom for those times where I JUST WANT SOME PRIVACY AND TIME TO GET READY WITHOUT INTERRUPTIONS. I get it! I really do!

I'm widowed now, but when I was married we usually had someone living with us (renters or relatives), so YES I always locked the door. (I didn't want any surprises... lol) I'm in the habit now--so, I'll probably keep locking it.

I like my privacy! I'm locking the door.
