Are these signs of fascism from the political left?

An ABC reporter is arrested on public property because he was taking pictures of Democrat senators meeting with special interest groups and lobbyists.

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Conventions/story?id=5668622

Equally disturbing - Obama campaign launched a major assault on the media by stifling a legitimate investigation of his ties to unrepentant 60s radical William Ayers.

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MmUwOTllNmMzZDNlMTljMGFmY2JkZTllYmQyOTY0ODY=

This kind of behavior, no matter which party engages in it, is extremely dangerous. More worrisome with the left, however, because they support this "fairness doctrine"...which is nothing more than a dictatorship over the media which they desperately want. Everyone should be alarmed by this as it is an assault on freedom of speech and freedom of the press. And people want this man to run the country?

I don't know if this amounts to fascism.

Highly organized bullying, hypocrisy, and the usual overt intolerance from the left, yes, but not quite fascism per se.

In the first incident, the Denver police, not Obama, arrested the reporter. I don't know enough about the incident to decide if it was wrong, but I fair to see the connection at this point.

In the second, it may have been a "legitimate" investigation, but I hardly expect the Obama campaign to cooperate with the National Review.

I fail to see the connection between these events and a form of government which exalts extreme nationalism and control over free enterprise by the state.

There is a far stretch between 'cooperating' with something, and jamming phone lines to a radio station in an effort to silence them.

In fact, that smacks of a highly coordinated effort which emanated directly from the campaign; Obama might have some explaining to do. Ironically, this sort of action probably draws more attention to the charges than they might otherwise merit, and makes Obama look guilty of something.

What about that Hillary delegate who is now in the McCain ad? She was stripped of her credentials because she wouldn't play by the "rules".

He'd have done better to jam the broadcast frequency! Then THAT would have been proof of fascism!

Conservative commentators have called for the same type of action but the conservatives hate it when they are beaten at their own game!

Here's the Republican delegates now!

Interesting, it does look like it was coordinated directly from the campaign

If I were running McCain's campaign, I would immediately begin a series of commericials asking what Obama has to hide.

I have been involved with politics for over twenty years, and I don't know of a single instance where a Presidential campaign, Democratic or Republican, tried to shut down a radio broadcast - this is over the top, and undermines the the notion that the left is a conservator of basic liberties.

I would welcome single example where a campaign has done this previously.

Both Republicans and Democrats are both guilty of this. When was the last time they both clamored to get ALL Presidential candidates invited to debate on national TV? They have the right to be heard just as much as the other blow hards!

Here's how some Republicans lied about each other!

If they are going to make up stuff like this about people in their own party I can imagine the shtuff they come up with for the other side.

Don't worry, tinfoil caps can defeat any jamming. Everyone knows that.

Dude, lots of politicians might lie, that is a given - I am looking for examples of Presidential campaigns coordinating the shut down of a radio broadcast. Got any?

That's how a fascist totalitarian state could begin. They probably can't get away with a "Night Of The Long Knives", June 30, 1934, or "Night of Broken Glass", November 9-10, 1938, but time will tell..........

(i'm not a big McCain fan either...but for this discussion, I'll speak about Obama)

Mark my words....if Obama gets elected, people will be more miserable in this country than they have in the last 75 years. Since probably the depression. But it will also be mixed with an opression of freedom the likes of which we haven't probably seen since the colonial days when the English monarchs still ruled us.

I'm not kidding here. Seriously. You may think Bush was bad or whatever, but you haven't seen anything yet.

There are such big changes coming because of all the socialist victories in every corner of our society, that I don't think people fully realize whats going to hit them.

according to the article you linked to, the hotel had sworn a complaint against the producer...perhaps they were trespassing after the hotel's officials asked them to move elsewhere...i've watched investigative reporters before and they can be as obnoxious as papparazzi...but we do need them to keep their eyes on the politicians and lobbyists...too much hanky panky goes on in politics

Could anything be worse than the Carter years? Yes I fear you're right about the Obamessiah.

The problem is the Carter years were over thirty years ago. The twenty-somethings and the thirty-somethings in the tank for the Messiah didn't live through or remember the times of double-digit inflation, interest rates, and unemployement.

If you listen to the speeches given over the last few days about Obama, they all talk about how he's living the american dream because he's worked hard and become successful. Then, they go on to say that the american dream is dead in america. Isn't that a convenient conflict? If the dream is dead, how is that Obama made it? When I listen to those speeches it sounds like they're saying in order to "fix" things, they're going to take away from those who are living the american dream to give to those they deem aren't. Sounds like the roots of socialism to me.

One advantage Obama would have over Carter is that the economy today is far, far better than it was in 1977 when Carter took office. The problems with inflation had already begun while Ford was still president.

If Obama becomes president and the economy tanks, it only means he is a bigger dufus than Jimmy.

Don't forget the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" that Pelosi, Obama and other prominent Democrats want to institute.

Just what we need: government bureaucrats deciding if radio stations are politically "balanced". And note that the definition of 'balanced' to most liberals means that it contains only what "correct-thinking individuals" believe: liberalism.
