My dad is home to hand out treats,and yes some might think Its weird giving out treats when we don't celebrate halloween.However the kids in the neighborhood do and we don't want them to feel left out and tell them to go away when they knock on our door.We feel that would be rude ya know.

I've haven't got a clue how Halloween is classified as a holiday.
If gorging on candy and other sweets is a holiday, America must celebrate it quite a lot.

well, (IIRC) your police force doesn't carry guns, so I'd imagine even Friday nights are harrowing experiences 
Maybe in our inner cities, but not in our ordinary little towns and villages.
Because most of our police don't carry guns, neither do most criminals. But that's for another topic.

But its just a day. Its up to the individual what they make it to be.
For a Christian thats been cleared of their sins and delivered from the evil one they have nothing to worry about. Evil cant touch them. Ive celebrated Halloween since i can remember and nothing evil has ever happened to me. I doubt its ever happened to anyone to be honest. And if it did then it most likely had to do with what they were doing and not the fact it was Halloween.
Not being critical on a personal level,
but this shows our ignorance in this broad attitude.
I don't mean stupid, just not completely informed.
Paul's writings shows that our salvation is not a license
to have such lax attitudes. But this is the western gentile
mindset, so that's where we are.

Glad you brought it up.
There are lots of things to truly celebrate
without catering to the flesh.
What else can we call it if we truly analyzed it?

I'm just sad that we can no longer hand out homemade goodies. I make a mean pan of fudge. But even as a child I remember my parents checking for razor blades.
Am I to young, or was that ever a real threat?

I think it is a very real threat. Not razor blades anymore, but drugs or poison. People are mean, so you really have to be careful about treats.
I woul dnever take kids to a neighborhood I was unfamiliar with, even when the area is known to have better treats.
I think that is why so many people have stopped trick or treating, and have moved to parties instead.

I am not terribly old or anything, but was still lucky enough not to grow up in fear like many. I come from a rural area where everyone knows each other. My childhood was such a blessing, nothing beats growing up in the boondocks.

I grew up in very small surroundings too.
My favorite thing were the popcorn balls.
But, now, there are so many additives, they
don't turn out right or taste as good as the old days.

wouldn't know what we were talking about.

Around here, maple was usually an artificial flavor. We had Sorghum & Molasses or very, very thick Cane syrup!
When time was hard, it was blackstrap molasses.

I went to walmart to get candy corn, spent $49.00, and forgot to buy the candy corn.
Middle age really hoovers at times.
I bought bratwurst, milk bones, tv dinners, razors, medicated powder, bread, tomato, yoohoo, and alieve.

Though I do love me some candy corn. 
So, I no longer celebrate it, but I do buy candy to pass out. It is something I wrestle with every year. I prefer not to even be home and just attend our church festivities. However, our house has been egged one year without candy. Also, even with the lights off they still knock and ring the door bell all night long. It drives our dog totally crazy. So, we stay home and pass out candy. We do enjoy the younger kids and seeing the parents out with them, they are so cute.
