I personally think that Halloween is what you make of it. If you go into it with evil intentions, then it can be an evil holiday. but i see nothing wrong with having the fantasy of dressing up like a ballerina or power ranger and giving kids candy. i think it can be a pretty harmless and very imaginative holiday. Must go all the way back to the first page for the perfect summation. Our church has a "Fall Festival." I'm hoping to convince my cousin to do what we did last year. I took the little ones to the Fall Festival at church and afterwards she took my oldest ToTing. Worked out great since the little ones are worn out after the Festival. Costumes... well, last year I tried to convince DS1 that we should go as the Penseives. He has Peter, me as Susan and then the little ones as Edmund and Lucy. He wouldn't go for it. I was soooo disappointed because it would have been a perfect excuse for me to dress up too! Maybe this year! --Kat

Unfortunately, seven year old boys are immune to cute... in fact allergic to it. --Kat Why not go as the Justice Leage - plenty to choose from there.

One year my parents let me have a halloween party. It rocked. I was eight, and dressed like a lady vampire.

I'm presuming that you're all American. If you saw how Halloween was "celebrated" in the UK, I don't think you'd be as keen to be promoting it, honestly. For our police force, for example, it's the worst night of the year.

That's terrible, I had no idea. For us locally...it's just another night for the police. Of course, we've always had the regional fair in town for Halloween, so that might help to attract people away from trouble.

For our police force, for example, it's the worst night of the year. The town where I went to college actually canceled all forms of Halloween celebration and encouraged the university to plan for semi finals to be the day after Halloween. This was after looting, cars were turned upside down, a couple of murders, and many, many drunken rapes. I completely share you sentiment, Manda. Not to mention I grew up on military bases so we didn't have to deal with that anyway.

Let me get this in early so that those who wish to ignore it can do so in peace and those who wish to can have the opportunty to respond and get it out of their systems. The Scriptures provide us with specific opportunties to do all of the "good things" the derived "holidays" bring without the need for doing those things, which one might consider questionable. At this time of year: The Feast of Trumpets provides us with the opportunity to make noise and prepare oneself for Yeshua's return. Yom Kippur(The Day of Atonement) provides us with an opportunity for reflection on those thing we have not done correctly over the last year and reminds us that we can let go of those things because Adonai has accepted Yeshua's sacrifice. And, here is the tie in to this tread, Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, is when we can identify with our dear departed while we camp out in the crisp Autumn air as they did in the wilderness. For those with ears to hear, I also think this last is when Yeshua was actually born. There it is. If one wishes to discuss these things in the conrtext of "Halloween/Thanksgiving", I would be happy to take part in the discussion. Otherwise, I will leave others to their celebrations.

Halloween was my second favorite "holiday" of the year (after Christmas of course) when I was a kid. I could dress up as a pirate or a ghost, and my dad would take us to a few of the country neighbors for great treats of cookies, popcorn balls, caramel apples, cider and candy, then drop us off in town where we roamed the streets with our friends hitting up all the houses that had lights on until 9 or so when we'd go to the tavern to meet up with my dad, who was usually in a game of pinochle with other dads, then go home with our pails full of treats.

I personally think its silly for a person of faith to criticize Halloween. Its just a holiday. Its just a day where kids dress up and get candy and go home. Of course obviously i think thats where it should end though. I mean its not right to believe in God and try to follow the bible and then choose a day to go out and hunt for demons or whatever. But its just a day. Its up to the individual what they make it to be. For a Christian thats been cleared of their sins and delivered from the evil one they have nothing to worry about. Evil cant touch them. Ive celebrated Halloween since i can remember and nothing evil has ever happened to me. I doubt its ever happened to anyone to be honest. And if it did then it most likely had to do with what they were doing and not the fact it was Halloween.
