Status: offline 		What is everyones takes on how much of their head is to be covered. I noticed that the mother of a good friend of my hubby's mom always wheres one of the coverings kindof like the amish do. She is christian so it got me thinking. Then I found this thread and the debate one and I am truely feeling as if God says that I need to cover. The question is how much is the "right" amount. I do not want this to turn into a debate. Please just post ur personal preferences and why and then I will make my choice from that.

Status: online 		That is a good question Steph...and one that comes up often I think. Definitely no 'right' answer...
I personally...cover most to all of my head. I personally don't think a headband would "count"...unless it's one of those wide ones that spreads out...I prefer to have most of my head covered.
I personally believe that part of the joy (in submission) of covering is to "hide" our "glory" (our hair)...which is why I cover most of mine. I will leave it down in the back and cover my actual head...with my hair down my back.

Like I said. There is no "right" answer. The only answer is what God says. What does your husband say?

Status: offline 		I agree with Sandy. I cover my glory too. I think about 2-3 inches of my hair shows by my forhead.

Some of the ladies on here said they wouldn't want to draw attention to themselves, so they would probably wear a fashion scarf or wide headband. I think in that context (not wanting to draw attention to yourself) is also honorable.

Status: offline 		I do not officially cover (yet?)....but if I did I wouldn't do my whole head....I would do just the front (like what a wide headband would cover) or a small scarf with my hair coming out the back. For me, if I choose to start, then it won't be about "covering my glory" it will be more about me seeing and feeling something every day that reminds me who I am and where I am in this marriage. As I said in the feminist thread, my hubby has a very passive personality...and it is very easy for me to power over him. His job as a soldier is to blindly follow and do what he is told...and he is good at that job....but at home I try to engage him more into making decisions and being "the man"....or really, just in general being a part of things. The first few years of our marriage wasn't like that....and we paid dearly for that...and that is a lesson learned that I DO NOT want to have to learn again. Ever since we went through that trial though I have thought about covering, but never fully made a decision on it. However if I do cover, it will simply be as a reminder to me and him of who I am and who he is in our relationship. I think I really need to do it though....cause I see some things creeping back in that I do not like and that he is starting to cower down because of (personality wise that is). So anyway, sometime today (hopefully) we can talk about this fully and see what the decision is. I do not want to make that decision on my own because of the meaning of it to me...kwim? I think some women could make that decision on their own, because their conviction for doing so is very different then mine...I think in my case though it would be defeating the purpose if I made that decision on my own....which is why I haven't started really covering yet, I am waiting on Paul to help make that decision.

As I've mentioned before I cover all of my hair with a fashion scarf. For me it is about covering my hair to be fully humble and obedient. When I have one on, my hair is pulled back in a bun, the scarf covers all of my head and the ends are wrapped around the bun.

A hat won't cover enough for me, and a headband won't do it either. BUT, as evidenced by this thread, head covering is truly a personal conviction, there are many different reasons for it, and many different ways to do it so that you feel both comfortable and obedient.

Status: offline 		I think I have said it somewhere here before but I usually wear my hair in a bun. Then I use a lace (black or white) bun cover. I chose this style because it won't cause people to stare or think I am a member of any particular church. I wear it to work and no one has commented on it but I would tell them if they asked. I get more comments on my only wearing dresses than I do my cover.

Status: offline 		I had a job interview today at a large chain grocery store, and decided not to cover my head for it. I don't have any headbands, and bandanas look unprofessional. I didn't want to give the impression of any religious affiliation for their protection and mine, and because you just don't do that at an interview. If I get the job, I'm certain I'll be able to cover my head on the job since it is a very large company. I have a black tiechel that goes with the apron and pants, and I could get a tan one that goes with the shirt. She was also re-writing the hours I could work, and I explained to her the reasons I could only work the hours I did, hubby working and having a nursling and "religious service" on Sunday mornings. I felt weird saying that. I suppose I could have just said "church" since mosque and temple don't meet Sunday mornings, LOL. Oh well.

A lot of us cover differently. Some do it only during prayer and worship, others do it all the time. Some cover their heads fully, others use headbands and there are a lot of people who are in between. It really comes down to personal convictions on the issue.

(btw...I'm not sure how Catholics cover their heads!)

Status: offline 		Christine, I don't. Honestly, it's something that I had never heard until I joined my church. I was surprised to meet so many head covering ladies here because when I talk with people in real life, they had never heard of it.

So when I see people on the street with their heads covered I do think it's just a fashion thing.

Hey ScottishMomma, like Lexie said it depends if you're convicted of it. It stems from 1Cor. 11. The Catholics used to wear doilies on their heads in church, and I think we have one lady here who covers with a doily, but I think most of the rest of us cover with different kind of scarves.

ChristStar, if I see someone in church that I don't know I wonder, but usually the next week there's nothing on her head. In public, I don't usually think about that for just a scarf or headband unless I can hear her speaking Russian. The younger Russian girls wear pretty and colorful wide headbands, usually.

There are some scarves that I see covering heads that I just don't consider fashion scarves. I think that's why I tend to wonder.

I tend to look at the 'whole package'
If I see a woman dressed reasonably modest with a scarf on her head...then I think, yes she probably covers.
When I see a woman with a scarf on..and modesty is *not* reflected in her dress (and I'm not just talking about dresses only here...I mean just modest in general, well fitting, everything covered that needs to be covered..) Then I think it's probably just fashion.
I often wonder what people think when they see my scarves. I do dress modestly, but I also have tattoos and piercings LOL

I cover only for church, and I will use a hat, a scarf or one of those triangle thingys with strings, depending.

Status: offline 		Not at all Sandy! I'm kinda the same way, you have to look at the rest of the person. If I saw you, I might not think you cover because your tattoos and piercings. People probably think the same about me because I wear make-up and pants.

Exactly Stina. Unless I see a woman wearing a full-head covering (hijab style or even a tichiel like I ware sometimes) it can be hard to tell.
I shared some about why I cover with my last bible study group and some of them weren't even aware that I covered on purpose, some of them thought i just wore them all the time 'cause I like it...and I do...but that's not the point LOL

Second. We (as in the women in this thread) define covering as a covering other than hair that we wear on our heads. Some wear it only for church (based on the verses in 1 cor 11 that discuss women praying with their head uncovered) some wear it all the time (like me!)
I personally cover out of obedience to the scripture. I don't agree with the way many dismiss it as 'only for that time' and 'not relevant today' but that's a discussion for the OST. I also cover out of submission to my husband. God has done AMAZING and wonderful work in our marriage. My covering is a tangible reminder for both of us of our God given roles in marriage.

I am one of the people who cover part of the time. I cover in any church setting (not just worship services but also meetings.) I also cover at home when I am praying or studying.

For me it is about humbling myself before God, about coming to Him modestly and with my sights set on Him only. While I believe in modest dressing at any time, I don't cover my head at all times based on the idea that I'm always with God, not just in church or prayer. It's not that I disagree with the women who do it that way, for me, I don't feel convicted to do it right now. I say right now because I do leave it open to God to show me what is right for me.

My decision to cover my head came about at first because my church practices it for all baptised women. Back then I only wore a hat. After a time and through prayer I was convicted to cover my head entirely (all of my hair) in obedience to God.

Status: online 		those of us that do cover, I would guess that at a minimum cover during church and prayer time (girls that only cover for that? Jess, Jewels?)
Some of us cover all the time, during the day. Some still continue to cover at night.

Status: offline 		I think the Catholics covered for the same reason (1Cor. 11) didn't they? They don't anymore though since the Pope said it was outdated or something. Do you still see Catholics cover, or are you remembering back to when you were a kid?
