When we got married we made a deal. First name would be semi-normal (but not in top 20 names) and the middle name could have a family connection or be more unique. We also agreed that we had to agree on the first name but that he could pick male middle names (to honor family) and I could pick female middle names. I have 4 boys. You can see who's favor that worked out in. Evan Axel~Evan we liked and it's a Welsh version of John (my FIL). Axel is from dh's Norwegian great-grandfather. Isaac Dean~we had the worst trouble with this name. Dh insisted on things like Paine or Harvey and I couldn't find anything I liked (and I like a lot of names) to satisfy him. Finally we agreed on Isaac within a month of the birth, only because dh could call him Ike or Zeke as a nickname. Isaac is not one of my favorite names but it's a very artistic name (Izak Perlman, Isaac Asmov, Isaac Bashevis-Singer) and I like the meaning (laughter). Dean is for my husband and his favorite grandfather (who he was named after). Jude Sverre~Originally he was supposed to be Jude Allan or Caleb Sverre but dh insisted this was our last child so I let him have his favorite Norwegian name Sverre (Svfair), which means 'restless one.' I did get to pick the first name on this one though. Dh was happy to let me. He was not named after the Beatles song. Luke Allan~Jude was not our last child. I was reading through the Social Security list and dh reacted positively to this name so we grabbed onto it. I remember always being positive about it but he always nixed it. He thinks it's because there was another little boy born at church with the same name but they moved and it took him 3 years to forget about it. Allan is a family name from dh's paternal side. It's his middle name, his father's middle name, the first name of his grandfather, and most of his male cousins. Dh broke with tradition by using other middle names for the other boys, but here he comes back around with a nod to his Dad. That's my four boys. We always had an easier time picking out girls' names. We both liked Nina Angeline (Angeline for my grandmother), Auben (means 'the white light of dawn' in old french or refers to a song sung in the dawn) Elise, and Eve Patricia (Eva was my great grandmother and Patricia is my mother and paternal grandmother). We also had a ton of unmatched names we both liked for girls.

My daughter is Akeelah Nevaeh. We both saw a trailer for Akeelah and the Bee long before we got pregnant and at the same time said we liked that name for a girl. So we chose that when we found out we were having a girl. Nevaeh we picked after about 3 hours of going through the lists on a baby name website. Our first son will most likely be Isaiah Christopher - Isaiah because it's both of ours favourite book of the Bible, and Christopher after Dh's brother who passed away. There are tons of names that I like for babies that Dh doesn't like. For the next girl I would love the name Zahra Nichelle, but Dh has nixed that. We both like the name Taccara but can't decide how to spell it (Tacara, Takara, Toccara). Eh. I'm hoping if I let him choose the spelling, I can get Nichelle as the middle name.

because I was "baby A" for the first two weeks of my life ( and grandmother still calls me that) I was determined to have names picked out long before due date. Being a twin and having twins I did not want to do sing song names Kelly Catelyn came about because my name starts with a C and husbands name starts with a K and we wanted to call her KC which we haven't and Catelyn is because my parents always called me Cate Kevin Gordon is because Gordon is husbands fathers name and Kevin just sounded good with it. always interesting to learn how people get their names.

Timothy John (Timmy) & Robert James (Jimmy). I really like the names we picked for three reasons. I like Bible names, they are family names and my boys can have a choice in what they want to be called....Tim, Timothy, Timmy, John or James, Jim, Rob, Bob, Robert, Robby, Bobby, JimBob. Lots to choose from.

We have: Roberta Ilene (although people keep trying to 'correct' it to Eileen) -- seh was named after my mother (Roberta) and dh's grandmother (Ilene) Jacob Noah -- purely Biblical based Joseph Roy -- family name again (my great-grandfather Joseph, and dh's dad, Roy) Thomas James and Caleb Nicholas -- both Biblical based as well Had Caleb turned out to be a she instead of a he, the name would have been Naomi Ruth. As for 'favourite' names ... don't really have any. Names for me tend to depend on the person. (ie. I know two girls Rebekah ... the name seems to 'fit' the one more than the other ... don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but that's the only way I can think to phrase it) ETA: My kids use the 'full' version of their names (ie. Jacob instead of Jake) ... always have. There is one person who insists on calling Jacob "Jake" and he gets quite irate about it "My name is JACOB". Someone tried calling Joseph "Joey" on day, and Ilene corrected them saying "My brother is NOT a baby kangaroo!" We figure that as the kids get older, they can decide whether to use their full name or switch to a shortened version.

I don't like any shortened version of my name, so I've always corrected people when they call me Chris, Tina or Christy.

We have: Kaylee Elizabeth (called Kaylee) - the Lee part after my great grandmother (since we didn'y like just plain Lee ;o), and Elizabeth because it flowed nicely Lana Brooks (called Lana) - with a long A like Dana becuase we liked it (LOL) and Brooks for my great grandmother...she was Ashton Brooks (I had read North and South at the time) until a day after she was born Rob Garrett (called Garrett) - just Rob 'cause his daddy is just Rob on his birth certificate, and Garrett after my great grandfather. I was one of 50 million Christy's (maybe not 50 million, but you get the point ;o), so I like that they have somewhat unusual names. Kaylee and Garrett don't have any in their age bracket (14 and 9), but there are some younger ones, and we've never heard of another Lana.

Our first son's name is Seth Michael. My husband insisted Seth be his first or middle name, but I also wanted our first son to have a part of his dad's name (Michael Paul). So we compromised. My grandfather loves that its a biblical name, because we don't have many Bible names in our family. Our second son's name is Aidan John. We both fell in love with the name Aidan and the John is a namesake for my dad. I wanted both boys to carry family names, but also have their own name to pass on as well. If we had a daughter, we were gonna name her Crystal Marie after both of our mothers, but we were going to change the spelling a little for her first name. I know a lot of people don't like that, but I was going to spell it Krystle. If we ever have another boy, we're going to include my husband's grandfather's name, James. His grandfather passed away last year, and his son who was carrying his name passed away the year before in a car accident. So we both have agreed on that point. Other names I like for boys are... Joel Levi Lewis Lucas Jameson Caleb just to name a few. Another name I like for a girl, that we heard on a movie was Aurelia. We both liked that name too. Its a Latin name and means "golden". Don't think we'll ever get the chance to use it though.

My favorites are (girls)..Samantha, Jesseka (my apologies to all those who dislike creative spellings) Christiana, Julia, Emily (although it got way too popular), Katherine, Ekaterina (Russian form of Catherine), Alexandra (because of the book Alex the life of child), Gabriella, Isabella, Arielle, Astaire (ethiopian form of Esther) any other variation of the Christy names...Christy, Krista, Kirsten, etc.. any of those For middle names I like Nicole, Renee, Faith, Grace, Joy, etc. and also Gabrielle After this thread started, I got thinking that Lacey and Jewel would both be pretty names. I think the name Serenity Robyn would be pretty, but, like I said in the other thread, Serenity is the brand name of an adult diaper. When I saw Ryanne's name (Mrs. Wifey), I thought it was very pretty, though I hadn't heard it before. and many more.... Boys.. Joel, Jonathon, Jordan, Ethan, Christopher and also manly names like Hunter, Grant, etc. I hadn't thought about this in so long, that I've kid of forgotten some of my favorite boys names. I know this sound weird, but at times I thought Highland or Montgomery would be cool names (part of my heritage is scots).

I haven't seen my sons names for anyone yet. manybe I just didn't see it. Josiah. he is my 3 year old. i wanted that name since i was about 17. i liked it when i read about king josiah in the bible. he had a heart like david and served God and got judah back on the right track with God. Jeremiah. my husband wanted that name. the prophet jeremiah served God when it wasn't popular. he spoke God's word about repentance and forgiveness. oh yeah, "j" is on purpose. my husband wants to name all of our kids starting with the letter "j". I am not sure if i am a fan of that. elise
