I would expect no more from you John. I'm not going to defend Bill Clinton, but I do agree with his statement. It's time for America to lead by her example again.

It's really lame since the example wouldn't mean much if we didn't have the power to back it up... But hey, it's Bill Clinton, and if hasn't rape or molested someone in the last 24 hours it's a good day in America....

If you want to take cheap shots at Clinton's past, start your own thread. Keep this one on topic. Anyways, Biden just got done speaking. He was pretty good, he certainly brought the fire and anger, and focused more on foreign policy than anything else. He didn't make any major gaffes that I heard, either, so I can't complain. Obama's making a surprise appearance right now.

I just saw Biden's grandkids come up on stage. That was kinda neat, but then, kids really tug my heartstrings ;)

Yes, it's about time the Democrats hold the Republicans responsible for the disastrous foreign policy of the last eight years....a policy that has resulted in a weaker America....morally, economically and militarily.

YAWN. More talking points. Don't we hear enough of that on FOX or CNN? The one thing that bugs me about Democrats....when's the last time you heard one talk about how great this country is? Extol the virtues of the USA? No, all we hear about is how bad things are and how screwed up everything is. And then there's the tired "we must take our country back" mantra. Take it back from who? Last time I checked, we are all Americans. It's not them vs we....it's just us, as in all of us. Nobody likes being around negative people.....quote:

Did anybody notice how muted the audience was tonight as opposed to the raising the rafters response to Hillary last night? I do beleive a lot of Dems are regretting their choice...

Did anyone see the John Kerry speech? He was funny when he said Candidate Mccain is agreeing to vote against Senator Mccains bill. Candidate Mccain is voting for tax cuts that Senator Mccain said were irresponsible. LOL. and he introduced Bo's uncle--The one every Republican swore didnt exist. The one who helped to liberate a Jewish Camp. Wheres that thread again?

ORIGINAL: tafkam The one thing that bugs me about Democrats....when's the last time you heard one talk about how great this country is? Extol the virtues of the USA? No, all we hear about is how bad things are and how screwed up everything is. Were you even watching the convention? There was enough unabashed and gaudy patriotism to fuel several Toby Keith concerts (who, incidentally, recently came out in support of Barack Obama -which to me was the most surprising endorsement of the year ). But things aren't great right now, whether it be in foreign policy or economy. I can understand if you sincerely think that McCain's approach to fixing this will be better than Obama's, but ignoring this would be willful blindness. If the theme of the Republican convention is going to be "Everything's A-OK Ya'll!", and they fail to acknowledge the economy, they are going to loose big time. quote:
Candidate Mccain is voting for tax cuts that Senator Mccain said were irresponsible Exactly. If you want to talk about flip flopping, I think the real comparison to be made would be that of "Golden Age McCain" circa 2000 and the present "Bizarro McCain" that we have today. He's gone back on so many of his previous positions in order to appeal to the right and win, that he's virtually unrecognizable right now. So running ads of Democrats praising McCain doesn't necessarily mean much when he's really not the same person that he once was. Even I used to really love McCain, and I've always said he'd be the only republican I'd ever vote for, but he's sold his soul to win the presidency. I don't know why the democrats haven't responded to the Republican ads by running the clip of McCain stating that he cannot in good conscience vote for Bush's tax cuts because they would benefit the privileges among us at the expense of the middle class. And then simply end the ad with the question, "which McCain are you voting for?" That would be "Golden Age McCain" criticizing "Bizarro McCain" -which would be even damning than running a clip of Romney criticizing McCain.

The slumping Clinton economy that Bush policies grew and kept healthy and growing even through 9/11? I seriously don't get the "the economy is about to collapse!" paranoia from the libs.

Rather than endearing some of us find it nauseating to use kids for their own personal gain. Bill Clinton is a good speaker...that's a known fact...but is an endorsement from a man with his ethical standards something to cheer about?

Regarding the party platform, the Dems dropped the "rare" from the old slogan: "Safe, legal and rare." "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right. The Democratic Party also strongly supports access to comprehensive affordable family planning services and age-appropriate sex education which empower people to make informed choices and live healthy lives. We also recognize that such health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions. The Democratic Party also strongly supports a woman's decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre- and post-natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs." http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/the_dnc_platform_revised.php

Half of the GOP convention's rhetoric will be dedicated to propping up McCain as Captain America, and the rest will be about figuratively roasting Obama at the stake. The problem here, though, is that if the Republicans dedicate so much time to the above, when will they discuss actual issues? But I can't wait to see Cheney and Bush speak. That should make for some great ironic moments, in addition to a lot of historical revisionism.
