Spiritually speaking, is having a vivid imagination a blessing, a curse or both? Please explain.

It depends what you mean by vivid imagination.

I've known people who are in terrible fear (mostly imagined than real) because of the times we live in. They're afraid to go out at night because of crime. They're afraid of various illnesses and diseases because of constant stories on TV and the papers. They're afraid about their finances because of the downturn in the economy etc ... etc ... The news media doesn't help with their exagerations.

Constant "vivid imagination" of the type I mention above is an insult to God because it shows one does not trust Him.

When one lives in exaggeration or imagination not rooted revelation from a trusted outside source(borne of their own speculation)sometimes he begins to believe his own 'petard'. Take Bigfoot and 'life' on Mars. True believers believe not because there's evidence but precisely because there's no evidence to the contrary.

I have a vivid imagination. This is good because I going to be a preschool teacher. I can see what my kids see. But I cannot watch horror movies becuse my imagination will take way byond what I can handle.

It depends what you do with it.

Under the control of the Holy Spirit it will bless you.

Under the control of the flesh it will hurt you.

A vivid imagination is just a raw material that can be used for God's glory or man's glory. You choose.

In and of itself, I think a vivid imagination is very helpful in life. How many times to we see someone's idea, thats inovative and think "wow, I wish I could think like that".
Without vivid imaginations, there would be no novels, or at least not any good ones. I mean even in Christian literature, there are some great novels, that are entertaining and very imaginative. I mean look at the "Left Behind" series. That is a Christian's vivid imagination at it's best. I mean you'd have to have a great imagination to come up with that storyline. (Not the basic endtimes story, but that characters and how their lives are affected)
