I was wandering around the internet today and for some reason was compelled to look up Porter Wagoner.

I have no idea what got me started in that vein, really, but I found this page dedicated to the bizarre album cover art of Porter Wagoner.

http://wesclark.com/ubn/porter.html

One thing I miss with not having LPs anymore is the lack of drama a CD cover has - I mean, how can a little 5x5 picture compare with a 12x12 full blown album cover?

Are there any particularly weird or striking album covers (new or old!) that made you go....."Wow, that's weird..."

In A Gadda Da Vidda by Iron Butterfly. Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd. Perhaps even Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. Most of the Iron Maiden stuff with Eddy. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath by Black Sabbath was both wierd and creepy.

I agree on missing the old album art. : /

The cover of Terminate Damnation by Becoming the Archetype is pretty crazy.

Pretty much every Slayer album cover is thought provoking.

as an art director/graphic designer, album art has always been interesting to me....

among my favs? Procol Harum Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (1972)....very elaborate....I have the vinyl LP at home in my collection (even though I am primarily a collector of Motown albums)

and, those Porter Wagner albums? had to laugh....my father had MANY of them when i was a kid....we even took a trip to Nashville in 1973, because the Grand Ol Opry was going to move from the Ryman Auditorium to the new facility. And, my dad was determined to see the show before it left the Ryman. We did make it to the Opry at the Ryman (2nd row...since my dad bought tix for that summer as soon as they were available for sale), and I remember seeing Porter Wagner/Dolly Parton perform there. Definitely the time of "big hair", BIG western hats and rhinestone suits!

Judas Priest- Painkiller, Hypocrisy- Virus, Dimmu Borgir, also had some weird album covers. One freaking thing hapened, I was listening to Hypocrisy's Catch 22 album on my way to Wal-mart. I picked up a new shirt that oddly enough had a pattern on it that resembled Catch 22's album cover and didn't realize it until I had the 2 laying side by side. Weird.

Small Deadly Spaces by Fight (Rob Halford solo). Some Yes covers from the 70's. King Crimson's "In the Court of the Crimson King"

Best cover art of all time: Megadeth "Peace Sells... But Whose Buying"

The EWF covers were all really cool too!

That God isn't dead one is very very surreal - whiskey bottles and a syringe...and a pulpit.

Yeah, I don't even know how I would describe it.

That Frank Zappa cover is classic. He truly was a genius, and preseted to everyone one of my music hero's Alice Cooper. And this classic album from him, Welcome to my Nightmare
