saved_from_wrath -> They should drop J Vernon McGee (8/14/2008 9:37:50 PM)

I know I have nothing to do with this and I never will. I think they should bury his radio shows. He's dead. I kind of have a thing if they are dead and have not written the bible they are not high on my priority list. Because he's dead
He's not going to say anything new. The stuff that I heard him say regarding hippies is down right derogatory.
Christendom can overcome pulling the plug.
Give the staff a severance

I am sure some of his groupies will kick me back something...more than welcome to

First of all, these "dead people", and by the way, they are not "dead" like you say they are, they all went on to glory and to heaven--those who are no longer with us in the earthy sense still minister to people today. His messages (Mc Gee's) ring true and fresh like it was a long time ago when he broadcast many, many years ago.

So does Adrian Rogers and G.E. Patterson. These saints are also no longer with us, but they still minister to people.

Well said Gayle. You go girl[:D]

saved_from_wrath -> How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/17/2008 12:54:04 AM)

How is the God of the Universe going to spread his gospel if JVM is taken off the air? [:(][:(]

I am not sure about this I do not think he really cares about us right now, and the reason he does not care is he is dead and gone to heaven where he's with other long-haired freaks and hippies that died [:D] I am sure he has to like them now LOL

I know this one guy who died of cancer gorge gumbas he was inspirational who was full of power and someone who I could see of being the closest to Jesus. He had his arm amputated and some of his lungs. I think he was the JVM of Denver. He was a great guy did a lot of good things and moved people closer to the lord. He one the few that I would want to his visit grave and I was not really close to him like his wife was. But he is in a lot better place hes drinking coffee with god now I am sure what this life was is not what he's thinking of now.

You read Polycarb, he was born in 75 AD and when he died because he did not renounce christ they say the flames did not touch him and the stab wounds put out the fire. There are other martyrs I am sure they have written a lot of good things. If I was going to read something from dead people I would most likely read someone who was inspirational I brather read something like Poly and others who did something other than saying a bunch of grovvy things

Really I do not listen to any preachers I do not listen to mine. Please do not get me wrong I love the church the people in the church and the worship. I think most sermons are kind of boring, I have this thing in my head that tells me I am spinning when I am not spinning. There is a lot great stuff said but in essence its all a mixture of the same thing. There is not any new revelation. I do not think there will be any new stuff coming from heaven in a while

MindySue69 -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 7:51:43 AM)

There's this neat little thing on the radio - called a "tuner." Which means, when something comes on that you don't like, you can move the tuner dial to find something you do like.

I suggest using it.

StephK -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 8:24:49 AM)

One reason JVM is still on is the fact that he systematically went through the Bible. He taught verse by verse and book by book. It wasn't just sound bites. There aren't many teachers today who use the same systematic approach.

Yeah I can see that he goes by the bible a different way from others. I may tune it out, I do not think I am going to change much of anything here. I am just complaining about something Ill Never have control over. I am sure the management at JVM might be looking at there spots and most the people who listened to him when he was live are now gone. I am sure this has to be a concern, thing grow and things die.

I do not know why we need all these preachers especially dead one at that we are spiritually fat enought as is. We really do not help a lot of people out we are living in a matrix were you are about on your own.
There are a lot of non christians out there who cannot understand why someone whose been dead for 20 something years and they keep on asking for money. Give room for others to jump in there...its like the 60 year old stripper I said, this is a younger woman s career.
I am sure that analogy does not really make sense

MindySue69 -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 4:12:08 PM)

No it does not make sense, and ummm....I would strongly disagree with the idea that the church is spiritually fat - if anything it's lukewarm at best, watered down, and compromised a LOT.

Why do they ask for money? Because it costs money to stay on the air and to send out materials to people who request them.

There is plenty of room for others - and boy howdy are there lots of others. I just wish they were as spiritually sound as Mr. McGee was, not full of watered down pop psychology designed to tickle ears and make people feel good about themselves rather than draw them into a deeper relationship with Christ.

bluestone -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 4:16:44 PM)

J.Vernon rocked!

I don't agree with his every interpretation, but some of his comments are hilarious! He had more meat in his "Throught the Bible" broadcasts than most modern ones all rolled together.

Now if you wanted Lester Roloff dropped, I would agree with you.

uncabeeil -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 4:18:36 PM)

If you go by your theory, why bother teaching history? After all, all of those people are dead, too. If McGee has nothing left to give, how much less Aristotle, or Plato, or Euclid, or Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson? If you can't learn from the writings of a deceased person, then do you only study the words in red? Again, they're all dead. Except for Jesus, every other author of a book of the bible is dead, so toss all those ancient words and make room for the new and improved.

A philosopher (probably dead) once said those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Thinking like yours guarantees it.

I volunteered at a homeless shelter they sat them in a chapel and said to them god loves them and you have to be saved than they let them eat. I left I did not understand why did not feed them before and offer chapel later...where are they going to do their homeless

I see what you mean I kind of think if it pop psychology did not create the world god created the world and what ever turth or truths are pop psy were most likey taken from the gospel. If it brings people to christ than that is what it does.
I stopped listening to old hyms I do not like it when a preacher wears a suit. I like it when I want to know how something applies to me in 2008. I take antidepressants (zoloft) that is psychology...should I stop doing that too. I do not think the Bible is like Nike, just do it or not to or because is says so...people want reason why I do not see anything wrong with that.

Psst.... There's even more dead guys that you should try out. My favorite is Spurgeon. [;)]

I like history, there is a difference between history and hearing the same old sermon, I am sure some of you out there do not even need his notes and outlines You have them memorized like the old star trek series. The founder of the School I used to go to John Mitchell he died the year before I got there and they were digging up old archives of his sermons, there is a mantra "don't you read your bibles" I need to do this too. Instead of listening to someone who has the same sinful nature I have read the word for my self.

JimboFletch -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 5:11:10 PM)

Do you recommend we delete passages from the Bible by dead writers?

Ooops, that'd be the whole 66 books!
[:o]

JimboFletch -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/18/2008 5:16:28 PM)

Or, as my Catholic friends would quickly point out, if JVM was saved (and I believe he was), then he ain't dead, just changed locations and awaiting his new body!

Those in the Bible write about antiquated agricultural techniques and ancient technologies that few alive today have ever seen. If someone only dead 20 years is no longer relevant to you, how much more so writers dead 2,000 - 3,000 years.

For those who do not know this, I did not come to christ because of the agricultural techniques in scripture. maybe I should I have a hard time spending time reading it already. But If you did that is cool, if you have a farm and you want to use them that is cool too. I think the one that might work is dividing the last in Seven sections and cycling through six sections in one year if there was a way to cover the costs of not using a seventh part of your land that could work.

What is the big deal? Is MeGee a saint, Is he the christian version of mary are you going to protest and demonstrate in front of the ministry did. I would think its no big deal, or is it like what the lds church says when god was at a stand-still after all his apostles died.

I know I am being a little cynical I think you guys think I blastphed the holy spirit

No big deal, just a bunch of people trying to get you the see the absurdity of your original post by drawing parallels that you apparently refuse to see. Problem is you keep coming back for more instead of just agreeing to disagree with the majority opinion that we do indeed need the wisdom and teaching of the past. The references to the bible were in response to your opinion that dead people have no wisdom to pass on. Everybody in the bible except Jesus is dead, yet there's a lifetime of learning in those books. Get it? Got it? Good!

saved_from_wrath -> RE: How are people going come to christ without J Vernon McGee (8/19/2008 3:28:28 PM)

Your right I cannot really do much to control and I do not have time to protest at the door of his ministry, but I have other things to do. Its costs to much in gas to get there

I do not really see any parallel to JVM and Jesus, other than they are both dead, but one of those after they died became not dead, and one is deity. I think when it goes to death for deities they really do not play by the rules.
