Fledgling -> What happens after physical death? (8/13/2008 12:27:20 PM)

Do we go in the ground until the Rapture.. or do we go to heaven?

You should get a couple of different answers here. The two usual points of view are these.
1.) 2 Cor. 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."
When you die your soul goes to be with Jesus immediately. Your body remains until Christ's return in 1 Thes. 4:15-17.

2.) 1 Thes. 4:15-17 "For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those which are asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ will rise first: Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: AND THUS [i.e. by this way, the resurrection of the dead Christians and the changing of the body of the alive ones] we SHALL always be with the Lord."
When you die you sleep until Christ's return. Then all will be called up to Him at once.

The answer to this will be according to our belief systems.

Some believe in "soul sleep."
Most believe that we are "with God" as soon as we are absent from the body.

The latter is my view. Paul said to be "absent from the body, is to be present
with the Lord."

Moving this from The Bible to Christian Doctrine.

Since the concept of physical time was created to remind us of our mortality(among other things)the 'time continuum' will be replaced(for mortals)with the current 'eternal' dimension and become the only reality.

It has never really been an issue to me, one way or the other. If we do in fact have soul sleep ( which I don’t accept) and even if it last for 10,000 years, for those departed it will last only for a millisecond.[:D]

Thanks very much..

I guess its not really clear. I like the idea of the soul going to meet Jesus right away.. Its kind of strange about our bodies though.. It seems like when they rise up they will be kind of decomposed.. I dont know if I would want to be reunited with a decomposed body..

No Fledging...your earthly body is long gone and you will receive a new spiritual body. One that knows no sin, will never hurt, never be sick and will live forever.

It’s a body that will enable you to walk through walls and fly through space. Believe me…you will never miss your old body.[:)]
