My wife have been attending a bible study on the history of Christianity, from Acts through the schisms through Martin Luther and Hanry the VIII and Puritanism. Next Week is the Great Awakening.

If there a recommended book that covers a subject like this? My wife's birthday is coming up, and I think she'd like it, especially if it had lots of photos, maps, and art.

try looking through these titles at Amazon. this might be a good place to start. Or ask your pastor.

I personally like Kenneth Latourette's (sp?) History of the Christian Church. Two volumes. He has a very unique perspective on church history that I enjoyed immensely. While he's highly critical of the organized church and writes at great length of everything we christians have done to mess it up, he keeps coming back to the grace of God and how God perserveres to redeem her.

No photos, maps or art though. Also a very long read (1,000 pages or so in each volume, though a lot of that is footnotes.) Might be more of a scholarly approach than you're looking for but a very good resource.

try your local Christian bookstore or a Borders/Barnes and Noble. Juvenis, a first Century scholar also wrote about the church and his work is extra biblical/excathedra, but is considered actual history.

Also, try the Insight for Living website. chuck Swindoll's ministry.

I meant Josephus, not Juvenis. let us know how your quest goes.
