ORIGINAL: deliveredarling She is 13. She didn't stay but only one night. The mom came everyday after work, she only works in the am until about noon. With respect, that's way too young to have had overnight responsibility of a house and pets anyway. She's too young to have been home on her own, let alone in someone else's house.

The original set up was for mom to stay with her. We have a pool and live in a very woodsy area. It was supposed to be like a mini get away for mom. Mom gets rest and relaxation, the plants and animals get taken care of, mutually beneficial. It just didn't work out that way.

Dear Darling, I'm sorry that your planned trip didn't go over like you'd hoped for. Sometimes we have unrealistic expectations and taking someone else's kid along is definitely one of them. Taking anyone extra along is risky. I would recommend two things. One, you could talk to your friends mother but it'd have to be pretty darn tactful because she's sounds pretty defensive and if she hasn't already raised her child up to be more polite or gracious, this confrontation isn't going to help. 2nd, let it slide. Let them off the hook and forgive em big time. Let it go as immature, hormonal teenage behaviour that hopefully he'll grow out of. He was in a bad mood and didn't want to be mothered, dug in his heels and tried to make everyone miserable. He's not invited on future outings so he won't be ruining future trips for you. It sure was nice of you to invite some friends. No one likes to feel taken advantage of, believe me, I know well the feeling. My only question is are your friends believers?
