ORIGINAL: PaulPate I don't have any particular favorites in the "Big 12", but I can't believe they let the BCS determine who would play in their conference playoff. It would seem to me that, in case of a tie, the team who won during the season would prevail. The BCS is not known for common sense though. The BCS breaking the tie for the Big 12 is the 5th tiebreaker. It does not happen often that three teams in the same division of a conference all end the year with only 1 loss with each of them beating each other. I believe they got it right in sending Oklahoma to conference final although I am in the minority. Yes, Texas beat them head to head on a neutral site, but it was a close game. Texas Tech beat Texas at home in another close game which is arguably the best game of the entire season so far. Oklahoma handed Texas Tech their only loss by blowing them out. That game was never really in doubt. Now, Texas' big argument is winning head to head over Oklahoma should give them the tiebreaker. Again, without Texas Tech only having 1 loss and beating Texas, this would not have been a problem. Imagine if something happens and Missouri beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 Final, Texas will have a great shot of playing the SEC winner for the BCS title. However, their head to head argument will also come into play. You will still have two 1-loss teams in the Big 12, and if you use that head to head argument here, Texas Tech should go because they beat Texas. I understand this does not take into account how far the Trojans will jump this weekend if they should beat UCLA on Saturday. I still believe they will not gain enough ground to overtake Texas as #2 in the BCS. We all know the BCS is a flawed system. I'm a big Clemson fan and mostly follow the ACC. Virginia Tech and BC will play on Saturday for the right to go to the Orange Bowl. Whoever wins will have 3 losses, but with the system, they will automatically get a BCS berth. Only 2 teams from one conference can go, so back to the Big 12, I believe regardless of who wins that final, Texas and Texas Tech should also get BCS berths instead of the ACC winner. This cannot happen even though other teams are more deserving. I wish the NCAA would at least adopt at least an 8-team playoff system. They can keep all the Bowl games as they are except modify it some for the playoffs. The 8 teams in the playoffs can play in 4 of the current BCS bowls the first week. The semi-finals and finals can be rotated amongst them as the BCS final is now. One of the reasons the NCAA does not do a playoff for Div. 1 because of adding extra games for the student-athletes. How are they different then the student-athletes in Div. 1-AA and other lower divisions that have playoffs? Div. 1 could go back to an 11-game regular season, still have conference finals and have an 8-team playoff. This would give teams that play in the finals a chance of playing 15 games which is only 1 more than most are currently playing.

Well, I kinda knew this was coming...Tommy Tuberville is out at Auburn. I am a Bama fan and I was so excited to see Alabama beat Auburn this year, but Tubs is a Christian man of great character, and he has done a lot for the Auburn program. I mean, he beat us SIX TIMES IN A ROW...how many Auburn head coaches can boast that record? I am glad that Alabama has Nick Saban and I am thrilled to see them having such a great season, but when it comes to personality and approachability, Tuberville stands head and shoulders above Nick Saban. Anyway, Saban is not getting paid $4.2 mil a year to be Mr. Congeniality; he is getting the big bucks to win games and restore Alabama football to its prominent place among the best, and he has earned his money so far.

The SEC had a rash of stink-bomb offenses this year. Tennessee, Auburn, Miss State, et al. OR, there must be some great defensive play.

Big Alabama fan here, and every time Tubbs opened his mouth about Alabama it was arrogance. So I am not sorry in the least to see him go. Phil Fulmer either. The Saban effect is mowing them down. He may be a Christian man of great character, but the reason I don't feel sorry for him is that he is a good football coach and will get another job.

I guess it's time for me to chime in since I'm actually at THE campus. I don't have any more facts than anyone else, but there are a few conclusions drawn locally as to the situation. Tommy is tired & doesn't seem to be wanting to put the extra effort into fixing this. He made sure that he got his 10 years along w/ his Mississippi staff (those that are remaining) in order to be vested in the retirement system. Beyond that, I think there are some personal reasons that made it necessary for him to make this decision. I do want to say that I thank the Bama Nation for the nice things I've heard the last couple of days. The rivalry will always be wild, but in the midst of difficulties, I appreciate the kind words that have been said about Coach Tubs. He is a decent man. He's well known in the community & his sons go to school w/ my nieces & they are well thought of too. He's a good community person & well involved. So, I appreciate the rivalry being put aside to support him at this time. It really made me think that I'm not so sure we were there for ya'll with the Shula situation, so from now on I will definitely show my respect when Bama faces a hard time like this. It effects a lot of people (staff may have difficulty finding jobs), so we don't need to down anyone when they are already down. Tommy & his family really need our prayers right now. k

Yeah, Tuberville would have no trouble finding another top-notch coaching job, but maybe it really is time for him to give it up...at least for a while. I'm sure the stress level is pretty high, even though he has made millions at Auburn. There is something to be said for a man of decent character in this business. Look at the awful streak Alabama has had during those "wilderness years" between Gene Stallings and Nick Saban. Stallings was the only coach since Bear Bryant who proved he had what it took to even dream of winning a national championship. Mike Shula was a great guy, but he couldn't cut it as a head coach. Tommy Tuberville had said a year ago that he would like to win a national title before he left Auburn, but is no way that could happen with the team he had this year.

Too much Tebow, and some good ole Gator defense. Congrats to Florida! Our Cal Bears go 8-4--off to the Emerald Bowl to face the 'Canes? Trojans are leading the Bruins, despite missing 3 field goals so far! BC fell to VT, and Wannstadt led Pitt to a 9-3 season and the Sun Bowl...

Gotta say it ------ Go Gators!!. Tebow for the Heisman! Alabama did put up a good fight, and it was a great game. Maybe closer than the score indicated, but I'll take the win.

Yeah, congrats to the Gators....and I know this is getting cliche, but I am proud of just how much Alabama did improve since last season. 12-1 ain't nothing to sneeze at...well maybe if you are Boise State. So congrats to Florida and all I have to say is: BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!

Jesuschick, PaulTate, you the only two on here have seen openly root for Florida as main team. hats off to you. I did not watch last 2 minutes cause of leaving to go to a bonfire for a while with a girl and WOOT she was hot but fire was hotter. lol. Tebow deserves the heisman but i see it going to Bradford. Bama is 12-1 and will be 13-1 or 12-2 after Sugar Bowl game with Texas. either way look at it, picked 4th in just the West of SEC and finish like that. yeah I say Bama is back. sidetrack, who saw Golden Boy get destroyed tonight? also, as for Tuberville, good coach, and he has to have other reasons, no reason to quit after one real bad year which they won 5 or 6 games isnt that bad. and for the SEC game, I see it was barely covering spread, 4 touchdowns it was not

Congrats Gators! I thought it was a great game. I'll still eat some gator in "honor" of their victory over my Crimson Tide. Bama's mistakes were certainly at the wrong time, and the Gator receivers are great. Now we have to watch and hope the BCS doesn't shaft the Tide or Horns from the BCS picture. Hope for a Texas & Bama Sugar. Congrats Tide on a wonderful and statement making season.

Does anyone know what the final score on the Army/Navy football game (West Point vs. the Naval Academy-yes, that IS college football) was? The last time I checked on Saturday, Navy was WAAAAAAY ahead.

As a Cincinnati Bearcat fan, I am just happy to finally have a dog in the fight. I know good and well there may be other teams from bigger conferences ranked ahead of us (as the Buckeye fans in Cincy like to remind us daily), but the system is the system and as it is right now, UC took full advantage of the situation presented to them. And this can only help the Bearcats as they strive for national recognition, and give recruits reasons to believe UC can be as good as anywhere else they can go. We have one of the best young coaches in the country, and so far he is committed to stay here and make the program as good as it can get, as long as the college administration works with him, which they have said they are going to do. Maybe the Big East is not on level with the Big 12 or the SEC, but with time we can get closer. 15 years ago the school almost got rid of the football program, and here we are now. I am going to enjoy as much of this as I can.

Well well, Texas will play "the" Ohio State Buckeyes. Another Big Ten team SHALL bite the dust. Horns must totally dominate and destroy to prove the point they deserve a piece of the championship pie. My Crimson Tide will crush the Utes. Utah will find out what it's like to play the "next" level. I'm picking USC over Joe Pa,although I could care less who really wins. Do I pull for the SEC(Florida) or all those Texas boys on Oklahoma? 3 of those players from within 20 miles of me. UUHMMM? I gotta go with Florida. Just too hard to pull for the Sooners.

I am going to enjoy as much of this as I can. Well, ELFin, you'd better enjoy this one while you can. My Mountaineers stumbled a little bit this season, but you can rest assured that they'll be back on top next season. I was glad to see them finish with a win against the Bulls of USF. Those guys have screwed up our last two seasons, so it was good to get a measure of revenge. And the way that the fans turned out in white to pay tribute to, quite possibly, the greatest Mountaineer player ever in Pat White was really cool. I'd love to see him go to the NFL as a QB, but they'll probably make him into another Antwan Randle-El, although one of the announcers said that Pat would make an ideal #3 QB. That would give him the opportunity to play at slotback or some other receiver position on a regular basis, but he'd also be available to take over at QB if the first 2 guys went down with injuries. I can't believe that Florida beat 'Bama! I'm so sick of hearing about Tim Tebow this, and Tim Tebow that . . . AUUUUUGGHHH!!! And that's all we'll hear leading up to the game against the Sooners. I know that Tim's a brother in Christ, but I hope that OU busts his chops early on and makes him ineffective for the rest of the game. Duane

I personally hope OU loses so I can walk into youth group the next week and hear all the guys whining cause their precious team got beat...but, that's just me...
