AmyR -> SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/6/2008 6:19:31 PM)

Is anyone aware of SG ringtones that will play on Verizon phones? As I understood from a thread on the Dove Brothers back quite a while, Verizon won't let you use outside ringtones?

It's ridiculously difficult to browse their online store, and the only thing I could find was a Statler Brothers' "Amazing Grace." They have the Cats' "Sinner Saved By Grace" as a ringback tone, but I'm not in the least interested in paying $2 a month for such a thing. A friend of mine did find some stuff by Lynda Randle or Lillie Knauls ... I found one or two Gaither/Homecoming items that didn't interest me, I think.

Just wondering if anybody here has found something that works. Thanks!

Amy, see note for you in geezer/Gonna-Be thread.

Amy, maybe Matt Paasch or Dovefan could help you. Maybe they will see this post. I noticed in another thread they mentioned they had SG ringtones. See post #167 in the "You might be a SD fan if" thread.

if you have a way to download to your phone from your computer to your phone, you can make your own mp3 ringtones with any music you want.

I made my own. Here's instructions on how to do it for Verizon users:

SPRINT isn't even available in my area, so I have no idea. Let's just say the area I live in is about 10-15 years behind in technology....

Woo-hoo! I'll have to see if I can make this work. I think DavidPB or someone like that found that Verizon had disabled setting your own ring tones so they can sell more ... and then they don't sell real SG ones. [:@]

MattPaasch -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/8/2008 3:33:52 PM)

I make my own ringtones....

I take whatever song I want.. Shorten it to 15-20 seconds, save it as mp3 and put it on my phone. I can bluetooth it to family and friends.

I have AT&T, and found out that Altel disables the ability to bluetooth ringtones! I know there are hacks, so who knows what you can do!

ANY IDEAS FOR BLACKBERRY? IT IS ALSO VERIZON

THANKS!

Neeva_Candida -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/8/2008 6:08:59 PM)

crackberry.com has a free ring tone generator on their web page. I download ring tones to my Verizon black berry on occasion.

AmyR -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/23/2008 7:37:00 PM)

I emailed an mp3 to my phone and it never got there ... Someone says in the comments on Adam's blog that Verizon has started blocking them now. I think that's true. And you can't set stuff in "My Music" to be your ringtone, only stuff in "My Ringtones."

It appears that SG is not on Verizon's radar, and I'm just not interested in paying $2 for 30 seconds of a Statler Brothers song. What I really, really want is "It Means Just What It Says." But it doesn't look like I'm gonna get it ... [:(]

Thanks anyway![:)]

dbmurray -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/23/2008 11:18:03 PM)

I can receive MP3 files via email. However, my phone will not allow clips received by email and saved to the My Sounds section to be set as ring tones. I followed Adam's instructions from his blog...removed the card, and sent it as an attachment to myphone#@vzwpix.com

I have Verizon service. My phone is an Audiovox/Verizon CDM 8945

This has nothing to do with ringtones, but is related...
Interestingly enough, my phone will NOT play MP3 songs that I copy from the computer directly to the removable card. It won't play WMA format either if I place files directly in the My Music folder on the card. BUT, if I use the VCast Music Essentials software along with Windows Media Player, it converts my MP3 files to WMA format. Those DO play. Weird.

AdamEdwards -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/23/2008 11:21:49 PM)

I can still email sound clips to myself and others. I've not had any problems. I did get a new env2 phone last week (which rocks, by the way), and I can just put the files directly onto the microSD card. The phone will hold @ 1000 songs, so I think I'll have enough ringtones to last awhile.[:D]

DOVEFAN -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/24/2008 2:06:36 PM)

Some of mine came from myxer.... for verizon, you have to download them to your computer - then send them from your email.... it comes to the phone as a picture message....

Most any other places are the same way for ringtones & wallpaper pictures....since I have unlimited txt, pix, flix, and instant message... I could go all day and do nothing but send stuff to my phone!! LOL!!!!![:D]

AmyR -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (8/26/2008 6:06:46 PM)

Hey, I just noticed something. I emailed a wav file the first time.[sm=hammerhead.gif] Let's try it again. I hope faith isn't a necessary, though ...

AmyR -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/2/2008 9:23:22 PM)

Well I finally did get it to work yesterday! I now have my own butchered up cut of "It Means Just What It Says," and another GV one I did through myxer.com.

I can't get my phone to set it as the default ringer, but I found out it works when I go in through contact ID and set it for individual phone numbers.

Thanks everybody for the help ... and "encouragement"! Especially Adam.

baritone77 -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/11/2008 9:11:38 AM)

Amy,

Which verizon phone do you have??

drdlowc -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/12/2008 11:57:26 PM)

Try myxer.com if you have a way to download media files. If you have song you you like you can upload it from your computer and make a ringtone out of you favorite songs. After you determine the length of the ringtone and what part of the song you are using the site will send a link to your phone. Click on the link and download the tone and hear your favorite songs as ringtones. In addition you may find the song or wallpaper you like on this site.

David

AmyR -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/13/2008 9:42:51 AM)

Mine is an LG something-or-other. I could look up the number if you needed to know. As mentioned above, I've got it working now. In fact, at some point it did succeed in making my GV song the default ringtone ... but I'm not sure how I did that! [:D]

Adam's instructions on his blog do indeed work perfectly.

dbmurray -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/13/2008 12:59:15 PM)

I finally gave up and spent $3 at the Verizon store for Johnny Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down" (AKA "Run On" if you're a Dove Brothers fan). The steps Verizon takes to prevent you from creating and using your own ring tones is ridiculous, but for $3, it's not worth fighting.

baritone77 -> RE: SG Ringtones - especially Verizon (9/13/2008 9:04:03 PM)

There's a free program called BitPim that you can download that will helps you trim the clips and downsample them to the right bit rates and such.
