Umberto Eco's incredible novel The Name of the Rose gives a great deal of attention to the endemic craziness of the historical era he described. The medieval age was running on empty, the Reformation was gestating, and all kinds of revolutionary, supernatural, and demonic movements were afoot.

Apparently, during times of mass anxiety at the end of an era, demonic breakthroughs erupt. A culture's immunization is compromised. Our Lord's era, for example, had a lot of demonic activities going on. So much so that "vagabond Jews, exorcists" like the sons of Sceva could find ready employment. (Acts 20)

There was real spiritual power released when Hitler spoke, towards the end of civilized Germany's history, just before all Hades broke loose. (see the documentary Triumph of Will someday -- it literally begins with Hitler descending through the clouds ... )

Could it be that the Todd Bentley "healing crusade" with its massive weirdness falls into this category, as an end-of-an era indicator?

Interesting post. These are the end times. And we are seeing all kinds of destructive forces at work.

But our part is to be ready for the Lord's coming. We need to fix our eyes on Jesus and draw ever closer to Him so that we're found alert and ready. Straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:28
