Little_1 -> Is God's Word Alive and Active still? (8/5/2008 1:15:07 PM)

An example of God's Word being alive and active includes:

E.g. God said, "Let there be light" (Genesis), etc and what was spoken forth by God came into being. This shows me that God's Word is powerful and active and not to be taken lightly. Things happen when God's Word is spoken forth.

There are many more examples of God / Jesus speaking forth the Word and things happening. Can you include an example that you are reminded about and what does such mean to you?

Also, what about when we speak forth God's Word - do you believe there may be power in such?

Hebrews 12:25-"See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 His voice then shook the earth; but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what is shaken, as of what has been made, in order that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a Consuming Fire." in conviction, humility and discipline.

I have several examples of speaking God's Word and seeing it working mightily in my life, and in the lives of others. But I won't post them, because as sure as breakfast, a thread like this will draw the heresy hunters like flies to honey. And I'm simply up not for that.

Please pm me - I'm interested to hear.

In opposition to WOF teachers I say; there is power in the words of God, not because we speak them, but because God spoke them.

It is nothing we do, but everything that God does.

Thanks

AMEN - I'm not interested in words of faith teachers either! I don't believe we can take Scripture and quote it or speak it forth to suit our situations; however, I do believe there is Scripture that does suit our situations, e.g. if we are fearful - God's Word tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that, "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

I would not hesitate to speak forth this Scripture if I was fearful and repeat over and over and even pray it over my life until it goes down into my heart and soul and not just over my head. I have found doing such definately does help in times of fear or dread. It's God's Word and I believe it. I do believe we have to use and believe God's Word in it's context and not try to make Scripture suit.

Some people may quote out loud: "God's Word maketh rich......" and expect money riches! This to me is a total misunderstanding and misappropriation of Scripture. God can and often does chose to make some rich in worldly possessions but that is not what this Scripture means.

Yes! For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

However, to further your thoughts, I would add this:

He said, "I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness. . ."

This was said of John the Baptist. He was a voice. . . not the word.

Perhaps our role is to be a voice. Your thoughts?

Quoting or speaking forth Scripture does not make anyone God. That would be an ubsurd thought. There is only one I AM.

However, good point re: "perhaps our role is to be a voice."

Colossians 2:13
You were spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were not free from the power of your sinful self. But God made you alive with Christ. And God forgave all our sins.

This is an example of the power of God's word to speak forth life to those who are spiritually dead. What an amazing thing that is! Through Christ's death and resurection our sins are forgiven and we are made alive!

Hebrews 4:12a
God’s word is alive and working.

If Gods word where not alive then we would be the most miserable people on the face of the earth. (there is a verse for this but I cannot seem to find it right now)

Tapestry,

Are you thinking of I Cor 15 when in the discussion of the resurrection, Paul says "if we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied"? It's not about the word being alive but the Word being alive. Anyway, I tried for ya.[:)] LL

1 Corinthians 15:19
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
